Noted. Hope to see you there. I'll be @ Redbones before the show,
also to pick up my tix, not sure where they are, but it's in a group
where about 5 people are taping so we shouldn't be hard to find. Look
for the wires and the towers of mics ;-)

Hi Ken! [Turns out, Ken and I used to work together! who knew]
Bela rules. He's an awesome banjo player with an extreme variety
of styles, a great sense of humor, a great love of music, and
very evidently enjoys the hell out of himself up there on stage.
The band encompasses a wide variety of styles. Safe to say, the
audience was completely won over by the end of the night (two
sets, no opening act, about 2 hours of music I think) and gave
several standing ovations. The producer was from Western Mass
(songstreet?) and said no one in Boston would book the show
(it sold out, and I guarantee it'll be so again). They ended
with Flight of the Cosmic Hippo, that was the encore. First
    Boston appearance in 2 years!
Futureman is way cool, he plays all the drums etc on his
synthaxedrumitar. As Bela said, "we auditioned a lot of
synthaxedrumitarists for this position and he won". :-)
Futureman comes from the year 2050 and looks it!
But the crowning achievement of the night was the most
incredible display of bass guitar playing virtuosity I've
ever seen, and I've seen Stanley Clarke and Jaco Pastorius
and I don't know who all. Victor Lamar? Wooten is his
name, and man he cooks. You never saw anything like it.
He did a solo that almost literally had my brain flying
out of the top of my head. I couldn't believe it.
Don't miss these guys, that's my advice, fwiw.
    Tom

| | Good meeting you again Tom ;-) Good show last night. Victor really
cooked on that bass! Never ceases to amaze. And the horn player fit in
pretty well I thought. He had the wierdest looking sax I've ever seen,
must've been a bariton sax - probably 4 or 5 feet long!

Northampton tonight.

Paul McCandless(sp?) of Argon.
Yeah, I didn't know the names of half the instruments he played!
[which doesn't prove much ;-) ]. Futureman played the box he
was sitting on, that was pretty much fun.
These guys remind me a little of Shadowfax.
They definitely are playing the Horse (Iron, that is!) tonight.
Great place to see a show, btw, very intimate.

for me, a comment like that is a mark of a grate musician... while
we were there at Club Casino, the music was awesome and everything,
but he didn't really "stand out" or attract much attention to what
he was playing most of the time... but then when you go see it again,
and something is missing, well, it's very telling...

| | Cool show. Turned out it was split into three parts:
	* one segment of just the Pops
	* one segment of the Pops w/ Bela (& the Flecktones)
	* one segment of the Pops w/ Nanci Griffith (including one song w/Bela)
Bela absolutely stole the show. It was fun watching some of the old fogies
trying to keep up with Bela's lightning riffs. It *was* taped for future
broadcast, sometime in July I believe. Check your local listings.
Nanci Griffith was good too, but was terribly under-miked (and then
over-amplified to compensate -- can you say distortion?). Maybe the
tv broadcast will be better.
