My wife and I are 20 year veteran corss-country skier and we need to upgrade
our equipment this year.  My wife's narrow 3-pin boot just broke at the tip and
I'm still skiing on the beginner's package I purchased in 1978.  Here is what
we want in a package: 

       o willing to spend $200-300 per person if necessary
       o want to ski tracked courses and occasionally make our own tracks
       o don't want skate skis or backcountry skis
       o want more control on the downhill
       o want waxless skis
       o want skis that will glide well
       o want very good quality boots
       o would like to stay with European equipment if possible
       

I have a "B" width foot and have trouble with most ski boots being too wide.  I
was considering buying women's boots if they don't look feminine and they come
in size 44 since women's boots are narrower than men's.  A few years back, I
picked up a pair of size 12 1/2 women's Nike hightop basketball shoes at an
outlet for $19.99 and they are the best fitting pair of athletic shoes I have
ever owned. 

We have looked at all the places in the Nashua area and are disappointed at 
what we found.  Most of the store here seem to cater to the beginner (I call
them golf course skiiers).  Does anyone know of anyplace where we might 
look?  We are willing to travel up to 2 hours from Nashua and pay sales tax
if necessary. We are also willing to do mailorder from the US, Canada, or 
Europe.

	A suggestion. Try Lahout's in Lincoln. They seem to have the best equipment and service that I've found. (I live in Hudson, NH, so I know about the Nashua area stores and their problems.) Lahout's is in downtown Lincoln on the left, as you head towards Loon Mt. and Lincoln Woods/Wilderness Trail. I highly recommend it. Bright Blessings, PJ

	If want to try "Lincoln South" there is Lincoln Guide in Lincoln, MA. They have an excellent selection (from beginner to advanced), knowledgeable staff, and usually good prices on packages. You might want to give them a call (617-259-1111). Good luck. Ken [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

	Jim, I'm not a x-country skier myself, but my wife and daughter recently purchased equipment. Not sure if it'll help you or not, as they're both just getting started with the sport. They chose Rossignol skis, Salomon SNS boots and bindings. My daughter's got the Salomon 3.5's, my wife the 3.1's. The 3.5's are black, so they certainly don't look that feminine. The two shops we finally decided on were Buchika's in Salem, NH and Joe Jones at the Waterville Valley exit off I-93. Most of the equipment was purchased at Buchika's, though prices were comparable between the two stores. I'm fairly certain both stores carried Peltonnen (sp?) and Fischer skis as well. Other stores we checked out were MVP Sports and the ski store at the base of Gunstock (can't recall the name) which didn't have much in the way of x-country gear. -Dom

	In the previous reply, Salomon 3.5's should be 5.1's. I knew there was a '5' in there somewhere, just didn't put it in the right spot. -Dom

	Or Sport Loft in Fitchburg.. I'd done some comparison shopping for packages for my kids at x-mas.. Sport Loft beat New England Backpacker hands down for price. FWIW though last year I did buy my x-country skiis at NE Backpacker. bob
