|  | Spiralog doesn't, but there is a future enhancement planned to VMS which will
essentially remove such limits, with the caveat that you enable this on a
per-volume basis and some applications may return cryptic filenames if you
use very long names.

  RMS is currently working on the enhancement Steve referred to -- which by the
  way, is planned for the next release of Alpha after OpenVMS V7.1.  RMS
  will be able to manipulate filenames and directory level names of up to 255
  characters, with the restriction that the total filespec must be no longer
  than 512 characters.

|  |     And to just close off.  Spiralog does *not* support file names longer
    than 39.39.  When HFS is complete Spiralog will be extended (most
    probably in the V2 version) to support these relaxed restrictions.
