my second concert March 14 ??, 1977 Springfield Civic Center

| | I'm gonna buck the trend here. Though I liked a few of their songs
overall I got to the point where I really despised the Eagles. Reason?
They were so overplayed in the 70s I don't care to ever hear their
music again. In general, much of their music was too mellow for my
taste... it got flat out boring. It made me want to scream when Hotel
California would come over the airwaves (for the gazilnth time).

Since they broke up I have enjoyed Henley's solo career much more than
I ever enjoyed the Eagles as a group. Frey and Walsh's solo career, in
my estimation, lacked creativity and anything of lasting artistic
    substance.

despite all the concerns I've seen over the years I never got around to

I have seen Don Henley perform alone with an acoustic guitar, and

The article went on to say (and I really love this) that people were already

Well, I liked this band a lot. Still listen to their cds. But I wouldn't pay $100

Guess who sat in with him on "Don Henley Must Die?" You guessed it --
Don Henley (who is always in Austin promoting an environmental or

As I recall after Bernie left, the Eagles were trying to decide which

| | A number of folks have asserted, as though it were established fact,
that the (only) reason for the reunion is money. That may or may not
be so. Where is your evidence, other than unsupported claims about the
    various members' financial status?

    Steve
 |
| 622.34 |  | TECRUS::ROST | Motivation: what good is it? | Mon Apr 04 1994 08:14 | 29 |
| | In .22, I was the first to suggest money (originally in a tongue in
cheek answer to why Joe Walsh joined the band).

Joe probably didn't join the band only for money since he was friends
with the Eagles (in fact, the story circulated in the press at the time
was that Joe was asked to join *before* Don Felder, but when he turned
them down the first time, they went with Don) but face it, if you had a
chance to join a top-selling rock band and still do your solo thing,
    wouldn't you?

If the Eagles wanted to get together and have some fun playing
together, they hardly need to mount a huge tour, they could do what
Neil Young, Van Morrison and McCartney have done in the past, just show
up at some small club or theater unannounced and play. So at *some*
level, money has to be an issue. Certainly it's a relatively easy way
to make some money for those members who have had less success since
the band broke up (Schmit, Walsh and Felder) and an easy shot in the
arm for Glenn Frey's career. Frey and Walsh did a tour last years that
was well received, so maybe they figured the time was right. After
all, with people paying $75 to hear Dave Gilmour's flog the Floyd
songbook, the public is clearly ready to pay to see their old faves.

I certainly wouldn't hold it against the band to tour for the money.
It's well deserved if they have the fans who are willing to pay. I
have nothing against musicians getting some payback for their work.
Anybody who thinks that the rock industry is fueled by altruism is
    crazy.

happen since I never had the opportunity to see them in the 70's. But it seemed
plain that when their manager annouces they'll get $300 for seats it makes me
kinda wonder. Sure, they'll be cheaper seats in the house I imagine, but paying
even, say $35 to sit 100 yds away... I'm not so sure about that.
On the other hand, we have to remember that these guys are musicians AND

Reserved seats are $76. Lawn seats $43. No mention of the special section for the

Sorry, but this is still a bit too much for me. I'll listen to the albums.
BTW, anyone who has ever listened to the Eagles LIVE album should know that it DOES
NOT represent what you may hear in concert. That particular album had so much
re-recording, editing, and post-production work that it would be fair to say that the Eagles
may not be that great live. Friends who saw them said that they were not nearly so tight as
they appear to be on their studio albums.
This is not a knock. I still like the studio work. Just don't expect to hear HOTEL
CALIFORNIA note for note.
Finally, I have to say that Joe Walsh put together those great guitar parts for HOTEL, and
I think that they stand up as one of the neatest and most memorable of all rock guitar
breaks. Right up there with BLACK MAGIC WOMAN.

for tickets from a scalper, let alone face value. Not really sure why they
are charging so much. Henley used to give some of it to Walden Woods, but I
would say that he is trying to buy Beverly Hills at this rate.
None the less, I paid my money and I will go. Hopefully this will be a good
show. I have seen DH in concert a few times (including Red Rocks) and you
will not be disappointed. "Hotel" was pretty impressive with his touring band,
as was the other Eagles music he played. I hope they have a backup ready for
Joe Walsh, I can't picture him finishing the tour. I have seen interviews
with him and he doesn't seem to be all there. He also seems a little bitter
about his Eagles experience.
Henley has been quoted in articles as saying that a reunion would be good for
members of the group that have fallen upon bad times. Maybe the some of the
money from the high price of these tickets will go to the non-songwriting
part of the band that did not benefit from all of their success. My plan is
just to enjoy the music and the moment.
Welcome to the Hotel California,
Paul

| | Any update on Eagles tour dates.
I'm in the UK so would really like to know what dates and venues they
are doing in Europe. I was too young to see the last UK tour.
    Thanks for any help.
    The band I'm with cover some Eagles numbers;
Desparado, Take it Easy and Lyin' Eyes.
I love doing them and they seem to go down well with all ages, even
the over 60's! When we were told we did Desparado better than the
Eagles, by a very big Eagles fan, I was well pleased ;-)
Do you think they might be looking for support in the UK? :-))
    Phil.

sell-out so I'd like to get in early.

Geez, if I spent $100 for the tickets and my teenager "decided not to go"
I'd be rather furious, to say the least.

The difference between me and a lot of people is that I don't think
that the fact that I find those prices ridiculous means that they
shouldn't be charging them if people are willing to pay that.

I did see the funny faces, but I wanted to make that clear since
your joke is based on false notion that there's ANY inconsistency with
what I've said in the scalping topic and what I said in .54.

    There simply isn't.

| 622.57 | Eagles' Great Woods Review | VICKI::MANSOR |  | Mon Aug 08 1994 13:29 | 14 |
| | Saw Sunday nite's show at Great Woods and it was pretty good. I'm
not a big Eagles fan but enjoyed it anyway. They came out at 8:00 and
played until just after 11:00 with a 15-minute intermission. They also
performed 3 encores, with "Desperado" and "Take it Easy" beinng the
    last 2 songs.
They opened the show with "Hotel California" and included in the
first set were "Lyin' Eyes", "Heart of the Matter" and "New Kid in
    Town".
The 2nd half of the show was much more uplifting. After opening the
2nd half with "Tequila Sunrise", they strung a bunch of upbeat songs
together such as "Boys of Summer", "Life in the Fast Lane", "All She
Wants to do is Dance", "Already Gone" and "Rocky Mountain Way".
All in all, it was a great show but I wouldn't pay what a lot of folks
    paid to see them.

| | I was at Sunday nights show at Great Woods. We sat about 5 rows
in front of the mixing board, dead center to the stage. The sound
was excellent. They could have cut a CD, they sounded so good.
Being born in '63, I was hitting my music days in the mid seventies,
so this was like a flashback to my childhood. I think Hotel California
was one of the first albums I ever bought. I found it in a box
yesterday in mint condition, but my record player was packed away
    when the cd player arrived.

I went down with 3 friends in a rented limo, had a cookout in the
parking lot and had a blast.

Joe Walsh's "Ordinary Average Guy" rendition stole the show, and
Desperado during the second encore topped it all off.

Don Henley dedicated a new song, "Get Over It" to a local radio
station. Seems WBCN has been really downing the Eagles for
    overcharging for tickets.

They did say that this was not a reunion, but a resumption with
    new albums to come.

I went to the middle show of the Eagles three day stay in Atlanta. If a
concert can be worth $100.00, this was it. It was great hanging around the
CNN center (adjacent to the OMNI) drinking beers and talking to people before
the show. Good thing the concert was indoors because it was absolutly dumping
outside. The review here said that they played 24 songs, I thought there were
more. It was really arranged well with Eagles songs at the beginning, then
Joe Walsh, Don Henley, and Glenn Frey doing a few songs each from their solo
careers. I think Timothy B. Schmitt did one of his as well. They then
finished with more Eagles tunes, with Desperado as the finale. My girl friend
was only a casual Eagles fan going in, but claimed that it was one of the
best concerts she has been to.
If you are lucky enough to have the Eagles come near your town, don't listen
to all the complaining about ticket prices and go see one this years best
concerts.
As far as questions about U.K. tour dates, I would be very surprised if they
did go overseas. You could probably check with Rolling Stone magazine. They
have tour dates for the period that the issue covers. There may be a telephone
number you can call to find out for sure.

| 622.67 | Are they back? | MUGGER::LIVINGSTONE | Survive! get a little crazy... | Mon Jan 16 1995 12:41 | 24 |
| | Hi,
UK calling, again...
Satellite channel VH-1 aired the Eagles concert before Christmas. I've just
seen a tape and was extremely impressed! They did about 15 numbers, including
some new songs.
I've been told that they have added a further date to their European
appearances, in Paris (July 1995).
The rumour is they don't plan to come to the UK because they can't get enough
money from tickets sales. Apparently they are only appearing if they can be
guaranteed to get mega-money... what about the fans:-(
They must have some serious financial difficulties if they can't afford to tour
the UK. If Michael Jackson, REM, Madonna, Stones, Pink Floyd, etc, can make it
why can't The Eagles? I know bunches of people waiting for any UK dates....
I've been scanning the music mags but still haven't spotted any UK dates,
or contact details, other than an original German date announcement,
in "The Sunday Times".
Have any more details come out regarding Glen Frey? Has he recovered? Are
they back on tour?
Regards; Phil.L
