Uh . . . Geez - about every other song there is, is a love song.
	Frank Sinatra's always a sure bet, I suppose . . . um . . . you could

| | Hi John,
How long did it take you to come up with those two ;-)
For someone who used to be a DJ, and owns 400+ CDs, you
could only come up with two? I'm disappointed in you!
Afterall you are not looking for a song about Nantuckett Island ;-)
Besides, none of those songs are real good love songs. When you say
love song, it has to be moving, enchanting, sweet and beautiful.
	How about these:
George Harrison - Something in the way she moves
Extreme - It is more than words
		Sting - Mad about you
I suggest you go thru your discs and pick the ones that are
meaningful to you, the ones that *you* like as a love song.
"Suzanne takes you down" might be a wonderful love song
for someone whose girlfriend's name is Suzanne but
it might not appeal to you.

There are also Paul McCartney's silly love songs ...

Year Of The Cat - Al Stewart
	Suzanne - Leonard Cohen
10 Minutes 'til The Savages Come - Manhattan Transfer
All Saints' Eve - Jack Hardy
	Harmless Love - Ferron
	Dorina - dada
I Can't Get Used To It - Greg Brown
Eyes To Eyes - Bill Staines
The Safest Place - Barbara Higbie

recommended for someone with somewhat eclectic tastes...
As pointed out, virtually 90% of 'songs' are love songs. Surprise.

| | Fleetwood Mac did some good love songs. I forget what that one was
called that Christine McVie sang. It was a slow one and went something
like "for you may the sun always be shining" or something like that and
ended up with "but most of all I wish it for myself." (Somebody once
made me a tape of love songs, and that was the last song on the tape.)

Have I Told You Lately That I Love by Van Morrison.
    The lyrics are absolutely beautiful.

In fact, Van the Man is a good source for love songs, even going back
to things like Tupelo Honey or CRazy Love.

I do have a fairly large library to choose from, and that's why I asked
for suggestions - even if there are only 10 cuts per CD, that's 4000

Does he really sing "fears"???? I thought he was singing "peers" all
of this time...just goes to show you that a little legal training is a
    dangerous thing...

Oh, BTW, thanks for all of the suggestions - the tape is almost done.
I had to do it in four segments, because the deck I'm mastering on is
one of those double-speed cassette things (Tascam 688) -- I wanted to
get the song transitions just right. I'll post the song line-up when
    I'm finished.

I think you should all continue to make suggestions, though, in case
someone else wanders through, looking for ideas.

| | Sorry John. Just an impulsive defense against possibly patronizing sarcasm,
on behalf of non-native English speakers who may have grown up with very
interesting alternative interpretations of American lyrics. ;^)
I myself always thought he was singing
"and I would not be addicted by a brewery of my beers".
    I stand corrected. And sober.

Now back to our regular scheduled love songs - an analytic one:

No apology necessary, Henrik. You know, I can't tell who the
non-native English speakers are, for the most part, because everyone
here writes English pretty well. I do notice a few grammar errors
now and then, but those seem to occur mostly in the country music
    topics *8')

    In any case, my original question about the lyrics was an honest one;
I'm sometimes shocked to find that the words I've been singing for
years are not even close to the real lyrics. For example, I still
don't know what a "cross fire hurricane" means in "Jumpin' Jack
    Flash"...

Actually, the tape has been made (and played to death) for months now.
I ended up using a lot of Beatles stuff, as suggested.

I produced the tape on my TASCAM 688 MIDIstudio, so that I could keep
the music rolling as well as blend in sound effects (thunder claps and
rain), sound bites, and an announcer's track. I haven't worked in
real-time (as an announcer) in almost 20 years, so the multi-track was
    great for getting things right.

The final product has, at the most, one generation of tape between it
    and the CD player.

Thanks to all of you (that are still here to read this) for your
    suggestions!

| | I think my favourite love song was "The Power of Love" by Frankie Goes
to Hollywood. I'm not usually keen on love songs, but I did like that
    one.
One that I absolutely hate is Whitney Houston's "I will always love
you". I didn't much like it to start with and now I'm sick of the sound
    of it.

I've always thought "You Thrill Me" by Exile was a great love song.
It's on their album "Mixed Emotions". (Unfortunately, it *is*
about the imminent end of a relationship.)

wasn't there yet another song with the same name in the charts at the time,
by Jenifer Rush or someone? (I dislike lurve songs myself, except, perhaps,
for `Love Song' by the Damned :)

| | Yes, I seem to remember a few of the same title around about the same
time. I usually find the love songs really boring myself. There are far
too many that sound the same.

Anyone remember the Stranglers' "love song", La Folie, about a man
who loved his girlfriend so much that he ate her? Based on a true
    story, too.
