I believe you are think of "Hindu Love Gods". (Hope I got the name right!)
An honest mistake. I think Warren Zevon may have been with this band as
well.

Yes, the "Hindu Love Gods" were indeed REM - Michael Stipe + Warren Zevon.
Just a one album project as far as I know.

| The Hoodoo Gurus are an Aussie band and have been doing the pub circuit
for years. They've also had some successful US tours. Very much a
cult band, but you have to love an album called 'Mars needs Guitars'.
