	Okay, so I'm the only one who likes Stanley Clarke?
	No wait, I know Arsenio Hall likes him.  That's two.

    I like him.  I even like his music  8^)
    
    Sorry, "School Days" deosn't make it to the desert island for me...
    
    I really liked his first two for Nemperor, "School Days" was OK but not
    as good IMHO, after that I just gave up.  He can really play, but the
    material hasn't been up to snuff.

    I like him, er, his music.  I haven't heard a lot but I liked what I
    heard.  Be more patient waiting for replies - some people only read
    this file every few days.

    "School Days" is my favorite Clarke solo album, and I always thought it
    was pretty aptly named.
                                           
    It's got a mostly 'up' feel to it, the writing (with the exception of 
    'Life Is Just a Game') is mostly pretty light and tasteful, and (from a 
    bassist's standpoint) the entire first side of tunes is a blast to play. 
    I still play 'Summer Afternoon' and 'Hot Fun' whenever I can.
    
    And, speaking of those same two tunes, Dave Sancious' mini-moog solos on 
    both of them are still exquisite. The timbre he played with gave that 
    instrument some life, I think (compared to George Duke's noodlings 
    elsewhere on the record).
    
    Personally, though, it's not a DID. I've heard the first side so many
    times that I wouldn't need a recording. 

Doesn't "School Days" have Jeff Beck playing guitar on it? On a song called
"Jelly Roll", or something like that?

    I seem to recall that it does, but that is reaching wayyyyyy back when
    I had that record. I haven't really followed Stanley's career, but did
    see a video in the past couple of years of a song he did with George
    Duke that was a funk piece, with George Clinton wandering around in it.

    I just dug out my Stanley Clarke LPs, Journey to Love, School Days and
    Stanley Clarke, and I only find Jeff Beck on "Hello Jeff" on the Journey
    to Love album. I don't find Jelly Roll anywhere although I do seem to
    recall the title. Could it have been a track on a Beck album featuring
    Stanley Clarke?

    I'm on a S.C. break, but I still like is material. The groove on my records
are pretty deep having burnt out a few needles on the stuff.

    I prefer his playing with Chick on Return to Forever, especially
    Romantic Warrior (and Musicmagic, when he does'nt SING !). I also
    really like his work with 'Animal Logic'.
    
    Was'nt there another album called 'If this bass could only talk' ?
    That may have had 'Jelly Roll' on it, and Copeland plays on it too.

    Light as a Feather was really nice. Spain and 500 Miles High are great
    tracks.

    I saw RTF on their Hymn of the 7th Gallaxy tour at UMass. Bill connors
    on guitar and Lenny White on Drums. Clark was using a Gibson semi hollow
    body bass and Chick was using a Fender Rhodes piano <period>. No synths.
    All amps were Marshall stacks. Effin LOUD.

    I think peole are thinking of jeff Beck and Stanley doing "Rock and
    Roll Jelly".  That's on either "Modern Man" or "Rocks, Pebbles and Sand
    "(sic), neither of which I have so I'm only about 88% positive  8^)
