Following is a posting from the internet from a few years back that
lists local bands from the London area. A few are a bit off-color but within
conference guidlines I should think, Mr. Moderator.
From: [email protected] (Robert O'Connor)
Newsgroups: rec.music.makers
Subject: Stupid Band Names
Organization: Dept. of Computing, Imperial College, London, UK.
All the following are genuine UK band names from 1989 as stolen from the
Making Music freebee magazine (incidentally probably the best magazine of
its kind available here in Britain). I know this is more suited to
rec.humor, but you lot are probably a lot more discerning (and warped) than
that lot, so here goes...
Cheesy Hood And The Precautions
Bob is 32
Gang Green
Pink Volkswagen
And The Cow Went Yech
Psycho's Mum
Cosmic Orgasms
Cranial Cheesecake
Turbo Slag
Projectile Vomit

don't pinch them!!!

| 244.2 | A few more "double bills" | SELL3::FAHEL | Amalthea Celebras/Silver Unicorn | Fri Jun 05 1992 12:41 | 33 |
| | One morning on WCGY's Comedy Stop was a comedian who was a genius on
group names. He was putting together the ultimate double bills.
(It might have been the same guy). Here are a few that he said:

    Ratt/Poison
    Prince/Queen
    Guess Who/Who/U2/Yes
    Madonna/Supertramp
    Rush/Traffik
    Cream/Bananarama
    Talking Heads/Simple Minds
    Guns 'n' Roses/.38 Special
    Genesis/Earth, Wind & Fire
    Styx/(Rolling)Stones
    Meatloaf/Bread
    REM/ELO

Some that I came up with:

    Black Crows/Byrds
    Monkees/Animals
    Fat Boys/Weather Girls
    Violent Femmes/New York Dolls
    Sweet/Taste of Honey
    John Stewart/Rod Stewart/Al Stewart/Amii Stewart/Charles Stewart...
King Crimson/King's X/Queen/Prince/Duke Ellington (The Royal Family)
    Heart/Soul II Soul
    Dr. Hook/Doc Severenson (sp)
John Butcher/Anita Baker (the "Where's the candlestickmaker?" tour)
    The Raspberries/Wild Cherry/Bananarama
    Paul Simon/Carly Simon

I think we did this double-bill thing in an old version.

My personal favorite was an actual double bill one year - Squeeze/Hooters.

| | I noticed in .1's list that there was a band named Gang Green. There
was also a Boston band by that name. I have one or two of their songs
    on various local compilations.

Two other Boston bands that had "interesting" names:

    	Jerry's Kids
    	Painful Rectal Itch

Maybe in the double bill dept. Jerry's Kids could match up with the New
Kikds and Painful Rectal Itch could team up with the Buggles.

    Oh never mind...

Perhaps we could squeeze one more band in there:

    	Squeeze/The Firm/Hooters

    Or how about:

The Birds and "The B's" (common nickname for the B-52s)

Depends on the context I suppose. There was a band called "True Sounds
of Liberty" that got a bit of airplay in the early Eighties
which released a number of albums under the abbreviated "TSOL".

Or for offensive innuendo value, there's "Snatches of Pink" (I read an interview
with them in which they claimed to have no knowledge of any sexual connotations
when they picked the name - oh come on!)
And sheerly as a side note, there's some band out now who's name escapes me,
but they have a GREAT name for an album:
