| He released one or two solo albums in the 80s on small label out of
Maryland. Previous to that he recorded at least one LP with singer
Robert Gordon that presents him in a straight rockabilly setting.
Good luck finding them in the UK, they are tough enough to find here
in the US.

He also did "Blazing Telecasters" with Tom Principato on the
Powerhouse label. Great live recording!
The is also Danny and the Fatboys, but I believe it's out of
print.

| I didn't think it was going to be easy! I did see another of his CD's
at the same store but didn't pick it up (nor can I recall its title
unfortunately). I got the impression from reading the liner note of "88
.." that he has been around for quite a while.

| Yeah, I think he was on the Washington DC area circuit for a long time
(15 years?). I think he sold various LPs from the bandstand during
those years, but "Elmira" might be his major-label debut.
A couple of friends of mine are big on him, but "Elmira" didn't quite do
it for me (probably after listening to their exaggerated raves for weeks
I was bound to be disappointed when the first listen didn't make
lightning strike, seas part...). - Jay

When I was at the Great Woods blues festival this year, Danny
Gatton was one of the performers. During Ronnie Earl's set, there were
some people sitting behind me talking about how great Danny Gatton was
and that the only reason they were there was to see Danny Gatton play.
So by this time, I couldn't wait for the guy to come out. He came out
and he was ok. He did a couple of nice instrumentals but nothing out
of the ordinary and he played alot of rockabilly type stuff including
some Buddy Holly tunes. He wasn't bad but after hearing these people
rave about him, I expected more. It was a bit of a letdown after
Ronnie Earl, so maybe that wasn't a good comparison :-)

| Thanks to all for your input so far. I do not listen to a lot of
rockabilly music, but it seems from what has been said that he has
moved from this area to to where he is now. Maybe I was lucky in the
fact that "88 Elmira St" only has 1 (don't quote me on that) rockabilly
track.

I have one of his earlier records that came out aruund 1987 on the
NRG label called "Unfinished Buisness" that kind of shows what all
the fuss is about. It is a little more on the jazzy side compared
to "88 Elmira", but he gets more of a chance to stretch out. He also
plays some nice slide on a few tunes. I kind of like this one better
than his latest.
He also released another one on the same label called "Redneck Jazz"
something or other? That featured Evan Johns on rhythm guitar and
vocals and Buddy Emmons on pedal steel. I haven't had a chance to hear
it though.
I think I read somewhere that the NRG releases were financed by his parents.
I have seen both of these releases for sale in CD format lately so
they are still in print and should not be too hard to find.

To me, he's a guitarist with a sense of humor - his playing is
very crazed at times. While he doesn't sound like Mahavishnu
John McLaughlin, he reminds me of him in that he takes chances
and sometimes gets sloppy. But the feel is well worth it.
