    I've got a funny Buckingham/Nicks story to tell:
    
    I lived next to two jock types in my college dorm (not that jock types
    are bad, but stupid ones can be real annoying). They used to throw
    parties which would go on endlessly into the night. I'm not a "small"
    person (over 6' and 200 lbs) but I wasn't about to ask these guys to
    "turn it down".
    
    Anyway, my room mate and I were big music fans, we both worked at the
    radio station and we both *loved* the Buckingham/Nicks album. In fact,
    I *still* like it a lot! One night though, our neighbors drove us crazy
    with it. They had a party that ran after 2:00 AM, but the worst part is
    they had one of those automatic "record changers" that would just play
    over-and-over and guess what they played over-and-over? Buckingham
    Nicks. After hearing the album  about 6 straight times, and pulling
    pillows over our heads not to hear it again, I asked my room-mate if
    he had an electrical outlet next to his bed. He did.
    
    I remembered that the jock's stereo system was on the other side of the
    wall from our room. So, we took a probe from my voltmeter and stuffed it
    into the wall-socket next to my room-mate's bed. POWWWWW!!!! Out went
    the lights, but better yet, the stereo went ...
    
    WAAAAAaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh...
    
    Quiet, except for the sound of dumb-founded jocks. "Duh, hey, what
    the f...?"
    
    Everytime I hear someone mention the Buckingham/Nicks album, I think
    of this story. Ah, to be young and foolish and to have no healthy
    respect for electricity again... :-) :-) :-)

    Stevie Nicks is going to be on Arsenio Hall tonight...hopefully he'll
    actually TALK to her.
    
    (It seems whenever I watch Arsenio to see an interview with a musical
    performer that _I_ like, all I get to see is them play ONE song, then
    they disappear off of the show completely.)

    I just finished reading "Fleetwood".  
    
    If you like ANY version of Fleetwood Mac, READ THIS BOOK!  It is
    fascinating, and obviously written with a lot of love (regardless of
    how some parts come out, that is the FEELING that I got from reading
    it).

    book, Mick Fleetwood tells exactly WHO does the moaning sounds with

    circa 1972?  I *think* it was called "Run For Home," or something

    Also, I didn't recall seeing any mention of Bob Welch's solo efforts,
    "French Kiss" and "Two Hearts" (or is it "Three Hearts"??  I thought
    I remembered old Bob in some sort of "menage a' trois" on the cover!!

    It was the last PERIOD MMFBN combo album...unless you count "Greatest
    Hits".  ;^)  The next album was "Behind the Mask" which was MMFNVB. 
    But "Tango" WAS an excellent album.

    Nope...not too fast.  Although I have both of those albums that you
    mention (of COURSE I do!  ;^) ) I spaced one of the titles, and if I
    couldn't remember one, I couldn't put both.  Somewhere I HAVE an entire
    solo listing...but decided to go with the "most popular".

    Jeremy Spencer had three solo releases.  The first was not issued in
    the US and featured the "Then Play On" period Mac doing the rock and
    roll parodies Jeremy featured in their live show.  The second featured
    him with band members from the Children of God religious cult he was
    involved in.  The third I saw once and have no idea what it contains.

    This CD set is great. Finally a copy of Silver Springs.. Is it my
    imagination or does "Come A Little Bit Closer" sound ALOT like the
    "WHO's" Teenage Wasteland/Baba O'Riley?(sp).

The Disney Channel had a "sneak preview" weekend, and one of the shows was
a documentary called 'Fleetwood Mac: Going Home'. It was a 90-minutes
special that included an overview of the band's history, interviews with
various band members (with Stevie Nicks being a notable exception), and
lots of live clips throughout the band's career.

It was great watching, and some of the live footage was great! I was very
surprised that there was that much live footage available on the late-70's
version of Mac, and it all sounded quite good. My only real complaint is
that they showed mostly just parts of songs, very few complete pieces; it
got annoying sometimes - I wanted to see the whole thing!

I did tape it, and it's worth keeping just for the live version of Rhiannon!
Stevie Nicks really leans into those vocals! Killer!!!

    Yeah, stumbled upon this myself purely by accident.  I really liked the
    clips of Peter Green era Mac, wish there had been more of this stuff.
    There was one that looked like a very early (circa '68?) "music video"
    of the band doing the instrumental "Albatross"; it looked right out
    of MTV.
    
    I've also seen the full length video of that performance of Rhiannon
    somewhere.

                               
    Peter Green footage? Apart from seeing them do "Man Of The World" on
    Top Of The Pops, I don't recall ever seeing Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer
    and co. on film. 
    
    Re. Peter Green: the September issue of the UK guitar magazine
    "Guitarist" contains a rare interview with the man. I only had time to flick
    through the magazine at Heathrow Airport and it wasn't clear whether
    the interview was recent. I presume it must be, though: who'd be
    interested in an old interview with a man who's not exactly the rave
    with young guitarists today? 
    
    Hey, I wonder if it includes transcriptions of Need Your Love So Bad, The 
    Stumble, Love That Burns, etc. Better not get my hopes up too much. 
    
    I dunno, first Q magazine brings us an exclusive interview with that other
    great sixties recluse Arthur Lee, and now this. Obviously, Madonna,
    George Michael and co. are playing hard to get.

    There was live footage of Peter Green era Mac from at least one show,
    doing a typically burning rendition of "Oh Well".  The quality was such
    that I could tell one of Peter's pickups was mounted backwards.  There
    were also clips from an interview with Peter and the previously mentioned
    promo vid for Albatross.
    
    Unfortunately, I didn't see any real live footage of Bob Welch (some
    people might consider this a plus :-).  I would've liked to see how
    this version of the band was onstage.

    Well, I for one liked the stuff Fleetwood Mac did during the Bob Welch
    period. 
    
    Certainly the band had an extraordinary knack of coming up with very 
    tasteful guitarists. Messrs. Green, Spencer, Kirwan, Welch and Buckingham 
    differ enormously in style, but each has made his own contribution to
    the band's music. I particularly love the Welch/Kirwan solo in the
    title track to the "Future Games" album - extremely mellow playing,
    with lovely use of vibrato...sends a shiver up my spine.

    Future Games is one of my favorite albums by FM.  And I agree, the
    soloing on the title track is excellent, especially towards the end
    where the keys sustain for a moment, then the bass comes back in.

    didn't mean to sound like I was slagging him; I like Welch era stuff
    too.  I have heard other people mention this as their least favorite
    lineup though.
    
    Mental block alert: was Welch the guitarist in the band "Paris"?  

    Yeah, Bob was in Paris, along with Glenn Cornick (ex-Tull) and Thom
    Mooney (ex-Nazz).  Sort of a bargain basement Blind Faith 8^)  8^)
    
    Where Welch bums me out is in places like "Lay It All Down" on side two
    of FG, following two lovely Kirwan tunes and preceding Christine's
    lullaby "Show Me A Smile" it's pretty jarring (even in another context,
    it would come up as a weak song IMHO).  In other places he's pretty
    good ("Hypnotized" is one of his best moments).
    
    When Kirwan left, that dreamy side of the band that came out in tunes
    like "Albatross", "Earl Grey", "Sands of Time", etc. disappeared.  I
    really missed it.
    
    What is perhaps most interesting on Peter Green's presence is how it
    looms over the band to this day.  Mick Fleetwood dedicated his
    autobiography to Peter and it's obvious that Mick has never really
    gotten over the loss, musically and personally of his friend. After
    all, Green was only with the band two years.

    It's funny, I haven't put Future Games on the turntable for quite some
    time now and I'm having dire trouble trying to remember the names of
    the songs, but it's gradually coming back to me.
    
    I recall that one of the Danny Kirwan songs (the first on side two?) is
    called "Woman Of A Thousand Years" and features a lovely chord solo
    (during the phase where the song speeds up), which I think is played by
    Kirwan himself. Lovely stuff.
    
    Hmm, I'll have to listen to it again tonight - it's been at least a
    couple of years!

I taped this "historical retrospective" off Disney a week or two back. I sat down
just to watch a little of it Saturday night; no way! I couldn't turn it off.

This is an extremely well-done piece from all perspectives: the information
(and "background color") is fascinating, the music is *fabulous,* and the amount
(as one noter already mentioned) of video footage of the band is unbelievable.
The directors of the piece deserve top marks for the superb work they did in
assembling a massive and diverse set of information into a cohesive and very
effective whole.

I've always loved this group, though I must admit I wasn't familiar with *all*
their incarnations. In watching this video, I learned a lot about their history
and found even more reasons to love them and their music.

Underlying the entire piece, IMHO, is the unifying sense of the awesome, magical
power which music possesses, and the way in which a group like Fleetwood Mac (any
and all versions) channel and focus that power. Quite the humbling experience.

    Well, if you want a laugh, take a look at the potted history of the
    group on the back of the Future Games album. One of the most eloquent
    pieces of writing I've ever come across...
    
    "...Then Danny Kirwan joined the band. And then Jeremy Spencer left the 
    band. Then Cristine Perfect joined the band. Then Bob Welch joined the
    band."

	Has anybody bought the box set of FM from BMG disc club. I got a mail
from them this week saying the box is on sale for $41. That really looks
like a deal and I would like to know whether some literature comes with it.
Sometimes BMG p.. me off by not giving lyrics along with the CD.

    	NEW MAC: A revamped Fleetwood Mac is writing and rehearsing
    	for a new album expected to be recorded early next year,
    	followed by a summer tour of the States.  
    
    	The 1993 version of FM includes 2 new members: onetime Traffic
    	singer/guitarist DAVE MASON!! and vocalist Bekka Bramlett,
    	daughter of the Southern rock couple Delaney and Bonnie.
    
    	The new duo joins Mick Fleetwoed (drums), John McVie (bass),
    	Christine McVie (keys and vocs), and Billy Burnette (guitars).

    Considering that Mason's track record for length of stay in bands is
    about ten minutes, and that both he and the Mac are starting from
    what's probably their all-time low points, not so sure if this is good
    news or what.

    Bekka Bramlet was a member of Mick Fleetwood's Zoo, a side project that
    released an album earlier this summer.  One cut, "Shake the Cage" got
    airplay here in Boston.  From what I heard of this band, they had a lot
    of energy and a raw, interesting sound; it'd be nice if the Mac started
    to move in this direction.
