Does anyone know if the places mentioned in .5 (near Benson's)
and .6 are still in business?

We'd like to get some imperfect pieces of granite, sometimes
called "curbing seconds" to use when doing our front sidewalk.
it would be used to "edge" the brick.

We've been told of a quarry to go to in Concord but if we can
find a place a little closer, it would be much easier. We live
    	in Milford.

    	Thanks!

    	JJ

| | I suggest trying Swenson's Granite on 101A in Amherst. Walmart is
accross from Swenson's. I believe this is the same company that owns
    the Concord Quarry.

| | Judy,
There's also a quarry off of Armory Road in Milford. I don't remember the
name of it but it's on the left as you come from Rt. 13. I'm not sure
if they sell what you're looking for but you could check it out.

Yes, we do plan on checking it out.

re: Swenson's. Well after all the recommendations maybe
we will give it a shot. The person who told me to try
Swenson's Quarry in Concord said that they bought out
the Milford quarry. Maybe he meant the place on 101A.
Anyway, I certainly have plenty of places to comparison
    	shop!

    	Thanks folks.

| | The one time I've bought granite, it was from Swenson's, and I was very
pleased with the stuff. Prices were good, and the cutting was
excellent. (I bought about 60 feet of 4x12 curbing for a pair of
flower beds in my front yard.) I drew a plan of what I was doing and
faxed it to them, and they made sure the material they supplied was the
    right length.

We think we've found what we're looking for. We can get
the curbing seconds for $3/linear foot. We've also realized
that because of the slope of our hill, the bottom of it is
going to require around a dozen granite slab steps. Those
are a bit more expensive so the job is going to cost about
    	twice what Shane was estimating.

(Anyone who has done this before, we're open for handy hints!)

The pain-in-the-butt part is going to be finding some people
to help Shane get the granite........ heavy stuff!

    	Thanks for the info everyone!

Oh, we found it at the quarry in Milford on Armory Rd.
(the name of it escapes me at the moment)

We've really lucked out with Fletcher's (used to be Barretto's).
They have a huge "rubble" pile on the left as you go up to the
office and they sell it for $10/ton. We've grabbed quite a bit
of it to use along the bottom edge of our slope as well as
decorative "chunks" and have paid less than $10. My dad got
a lot of big pieces to use to make a fireplace for their camp
in Maine. Two other people I know have asked me where it is so
they can go do the same. If you have the time to walk around
the pile and move some pieces around, you can get some pretty
    	decent stuff, really cheap.
