Would someone who really knows the words to this old Disney classic tell me 
whether or not I have them correct ?  It's the third verse that I most 
suspicious of....doesn't quite make sense to me.

    I *think* I still have an (extremely) old Disney album from my
    childhood with Disney songs and words written on the cover, I will try
    to find it tonight just for kicks, to see how accurate you are, I think

I remember it somewhat differently; the way I remember it, the third verse 
makes more sense, at least to me.  I remember it with the word(s) in 
[brackets] replaced by the word(s) to the right.

    Would anyone know the full words the the "Skye Boat Song". My mother
    used it as a lullaby many times, and my son loves, it, but I end up
    la-de-da-ing most of it.

    A friend of mine sings it to her daughter, but has not been able to

    This is all I know;
    
    The itsy bitsy spider 
    went up the garden(water?) spout.

    I've also heard it with "crawled up" in place of "went up"
    
    Is there more??

    I have never heard it, but a friend of mine has - and she was the one
    looking for it.

    tiny...) and then a HUGEY WUGEY spide...a very BIG spider.
    
    Here goes:

    (Now use your whole hand instead of

    I have a list of songs which I keep in the car and bring out now and
    then. Most of them are pretty well-known. You might want to put this
    list in your car too.

    Great idea to keep the list of songs in the car handy, 
    especially for the commutes home when you can hardly
    remember your own name!
    
    One time I also made a tape recording by singing all my
    son's favorite songs, especially the ones where we had
    added his name or some fun words of our own.  When he
    was three he played the tape in bed or whenever he
    wanted to hear it!

    I love the idea of the list!  My daughter will sit in the back seat
    and ask us to sing.  When we pick (remember) a song, she'll listen.  If
    she doesn't like it, she'll chant, "no, no..." till we shut up and
    pick another song!  Sometimes it's hard to come up with something that
    she approves of.  But when we do she cheers.
    
    It's the nicest applause I've ever heard.

    Does anyone know if there is a book of music available for songs
    like these?  I play the guitar and thought it would be fun to
    teach my daughter these types of songs with musical accompaniment
    :-)  but I don't know where find such a book.  Does anyone know
    if something like this even exists?  I live/work in central Mass.,
    but would travel a bit if anyone knows of a place where I could find
    this.

There is a set of books and cassettes called "Wee Sing..." I have three my 
mother gave me: ...around the campfire, ...for Christmas (nice because it
isn't just carols), ...favorite nursery rhymes (or something like that.  I
believe she bought them at a Walden bookstore but I think I've seen them many
places.

    We have a book (with simple music for piano; not sure if it has guitar
    chords) called "KidSongs" (or KidsSongs, or Kids' Songs...); it has a
    lot of traditional favorites, and the rendition on the cassette isn't
    *too* annoying, by which I mean it's not an unruly kids' chorus or a
    drowning-in-maple-syrup goody two shoes voice.  (I am disgusted, though,
    that they felt it necessary to rewrite "Day-O" to avoid the word
    "rum"!)
    
    It was a gift, but I've seen it at The Open Book (a chain of bookstores
    in central Mass.).

    We have the KidSongs series mentioned in .33:  
    
    	KidSongs, KidSongs II, KidSongs Jubilee (my favorite), and just
    	out, KidSongs Sleepytime. 
    
    I believe the singer is named Nancy Cassidy.  The publisher is Klutz
    Press.
    
    These cassettes each come with a wire-bound wipe-off pages book, with the
    cassette attached in a net bag.  Chords are shown in the book, (but I 
    haven't talked my husband into an electric rendition yet...)  My two year 
    old likes the silly illustrations in the books too: dogs-dressed-up-to-
    party sort of thing.
    
    Cowboy songs, folk songs, songs you sang at camp, songs Raffi wrote and
    songs he made popular---a good variety even if though rock-n-roll is
    underrepresented (IMHO!)  Some of the lyric clean-up mentioned in .33 is
    okay by me:  "All night, all day, angels watching over me" omits
    the "if I die before I wake" verse (which is the only one I knew and
    would have disqualified this as a lullaby in my house!)

My sister-in-law loaned us a Raffi songbook.  It's geared toward piano & guitar.
I'm not sure where she found it, but I believe it was a bookstore that was
part of a chain.

You could also check your local library.  Ours (Northboro) has the Raffi 
Christmas songbook.

    Another idea for commutes...
    
    This may not be possible for everyone, but I'll mention it.
    
    If your VCR has a stereo output and you connect it to your home stereo 
    (or whatever), you can then make cassettes of various "things."
    
    Now "things" might be songs from Seasame St. Or the music from
    Bambi (Drip Drip Drop little April Shower...), Or the theme song
    from Thomas the Tank engine. (which they hardly ever play w/o
    overdubbing with some ad for another show, GRRRR!!!) Or lots of 
    things.
    
    We've got a couple of these, actually quite a few now, and they were
    really great when Peter was in the 2's. At the time he really liked
    the Disney Sing-a-long Songs, and so some of those got taped.
    
    One thing I thought about doing but never did was to tape an entire
    movie onto cassette for a long trip. Then you just play the cassette,
    and the child imagines (remember that? imagination? wow, what a
    concept! :^) and remembers the movie. I think it _should_ work, but
    I haven't tried it yet.

    One of Alex's and my favorite car cassettes has Bobby McFerrin doing
    his tour-de-force Saturday Night Live performance of "Drive".  I'd been
    lucky enough to have VHS'ed it (and after a kazillion viewings, I'm
    still in such awe that I forget to *breathe* when watching it), and
    just as a goof I taped a cassette just putting a monaural mike up to
    the monaural (tinny, bee-in-a-paper-bag) speaker of my TV.  Sounds
    great (less filling), great enough that I haven't bothered re-recording
    now that I have the new TV wired to the stereo.
    
    Same cassette also has Kenny Rankin doing "Haven't We Met" on the
    tonight show a couple years ago (sigh)... but that's another story.
