| 613.1 | No Milk Needed | USCTR2::DONOVAN |  | Fri Jan 11 1991 04:57 | 4 |
| | My doctor would tell you that she doesn't need milk. Yogurt,
    cheese, cottage cheese etc are all just fine.

| | At a year, Ryan went off the bottle and his milk intake reduced
    drastically. Like Kate's doctor, mine was unconcerned as long as he
    eats cheese and yogurt.

    At 2 1/2, he still goes through times when he doesn't want milk - a
    milkshake at the ice cream shop, though, is a great treat.

    good luck - my mistake was obsessing about it. The more I focused on
    it, the more he refused!

I agree with .1 and .2. Talk to your pedi and give a calcium supplement if
you must.
Some kids never develop a taste for milk. Some kids do. Most grow up just
fine. The only milk our son drinks is in milk shakes. Our daughter drinks
milk with every meal and even for snacks, and even if we eat at McGreaseburger.
Both are growing and healthy.

| 613.4 | TRY FLAVORED SYRUPS | DEMING::QAR_TEMP | I LIKE MIKE -- ABC | Fri Jan 11 1991 09:31 | 7 |

    They sell in "all" shopping stores syrups that you can add in to give
    the milk some flavor. From Strawberry, Coffee, chocolate, etc.
    My nephew never liked milk either so my sister use to always give him
    coffee milk. (no caffeine)!

| 613.5 | Try wierd straws | MSESU::HOPKINS | tax the rich...feed the poor... | Fri Jan 11 1991 11:09 | 3 |
| | Does she not like the milk or is it the cup? It took those funny
    shaped straws to get my daughter to drink milk at that age.

| | It's "dairy products" they need, not liquid milk. So as long as
    she's eating cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, and so on, she should
    be fine.

| 613.7 | 1% or 2% milk? | BCSE::WEIER | Patty, DTN 381-0877 | Fri Jan 11 1991 12:07 | 4 |
|  |     Try the lighter-fat milks.  I can't drink whole milk, but LOVE 2% (I
    know there's only 1% difference!). The fat from whole milk just stays
    in my mouth and feels gross. It may be the consistency, which is why
    flavorings don't help. By her age they don't need all that fat anyway.

| 613.8 | try foods with milk in them | CRONIC::ORTH |  | Fri Jan 11 1991 14:28 | 17 |
| | Our doctors alwyas recommended whole milk until 2, but yours may like
    skim, or 1 or 2%, and can get the fat through other foods.

    I second the straws....kids *LOVE* em! Just watch closely...it is
    easier to spill with them.

    Try puddings (lots of milk in 'em), and cream type soups.

    And don't worry...its the calcium, not the milk, and calcium is in lots
    of foods besides milk.

    You also might try alwyas offereing the milk first....whenever she is
    thirsty offer a little milk first. Daniel (21 mos) will usually only
    drink milk when he's really thirsty. Otherwise he prefers water or
    juice.
