| 154.1 | Old MacDonald's Farm Animals | NAC::KNOX | Donna Knox | Thu Jul 19 1990 07:43 | 11 |
| | The mobil my kids loved had stuffed baby farm animals facing down at the
infant, (piglet, lamb, calf and duckling, I think, with a smily-faced
sun in the middle also facing down.) The music 'box' had a smily-faced
sun on it, also. Even though it only played 'Old MacDonald' for 4
minutes, they were more interested in the animals than the music it
seemed to me. I payed about $30 for it in January 1987 at Cribs 'N
Things in Nashua. This mobile is now on it's fourth child as I have
lent it out to a friend.

| | The Right Start catalog has a few different mobils that face the infant
while lying in the crib. I have seen clowns, shapes, etc.

| | The mobile my son loved best (and still does) is a Fisher-Price. It has
four little animals (dog, sheep, horse, and I forgot the other) which
angle down for him to see. When he was an infant I turned the figures
around. The back side of the figures are solid color blue, orange,
green, and yellow. As his eyesight improved I turned them one by one
so it would be more interesting. The music lasts about 20 minutes,
just about as long as his attention span and long enough for me to have
a cup of tea and activate my "reset" button on my attitude! Now that
he's 7 months old, I have removed one of the animals and he loves to
    chew, or rather "gum" it.

| | The "Infant Stim-Mobile" made by Wimmer-Ferguson Child Products
is absolutely the best! Unfortunately, it is also probably the
ugliest mobile I have ever seen. It is simply black and white
graphics on both vertical and horizontal surfaces. When I
received it as a gift, I thought to myself "self, there is no
way I'm hanging this in my beautiful nursery"....but, it had an
absolutely mesmerizing (sp?) effect on my then-colicky son!
It sells for around $13 but I haven't seen it in too many
places (Jouet de Ville in Olde Shrewsbury Village and
one of the pushcarts in Greendale Mall in Worcester).

| | Yes, the infant stim-mobile is great. Since infants can only see black
and white (and shades of gray) it is very defined for them. It is also
sold in the Early Learning Center and through the Right Start catalog.
I hooked mine up to the Fisher-Price mobile (without the F-P hanging
part on yet) and when I turned on the music box it made it turn as well.
They also make a soft book that is good to place along side a infant
who is awake but is lying with his/her face turned to one side. I think
this is sold through Discovery Toys as well.

| | Yes, the Stim-mobile is great, but unfortunately lasted only 3 months
with my daughter. She loved it at first and now is bored with it. I
got mine at Boston Baby in Newton for $10.

| 154.7 | Fisher-Price - good for longevity! | 39410::HAMMOND |  | Wed Aug 08 1990 13:19 | 10 |
| | My son got the Fisher-Price one (with tape player) as a gift. It
is great. Once he was standing in his crib, we removed the mobile
part so just the tape player was their.

Each morning (and after his nap), he 'hits the dog' to turn on the
music. It's his way of telling us that he is awake. When I go
into his room, he will turn it on again and dance!

Matthew's had the mobile since he was about 2 months old. He's
know 16 months old and it still gets alot of use....
