Purchasing a house and daycare expense don't mix!!! Therefore, I am
forced to withdraw my kids (2 boys) from their current daycare and seek a
private babysitter of some sort. I feel bad about this and not
totally comfortable - especially about placing an add in the newspaper.
Anyone have suggestions on where to find the ones you can trust? I
live in the Gardner area.

I put an ad in the local paper so I get responses from local people.
Hopefully someone who has lived in the area a long time and has
good references. I also ask them to send a resume with salary
requirements. Then I call them, I don't put my number in the paper.
Maybe I don't get as many responses that way, but I get serious inquires. I also don't spent time
I also don't spend time on the phone talking with people I'd never
consider.
I ask for at least three references and call all of them.
Personal references and work references even if the work ones go
way back.
Of course a drivers license is a must. You can do a limited criminal
check just like the nanny services do. The last time I looked into it,
there was a fee and you had to check each state. I've never done it
I always spend lots of time with a new nanny and use common sense.
We spend a minimum one hour interviewing much longer if we like the
person. Then we spend a day together with the children. Then I
always pop in unannounced or have a relative or neighbor do the same.

Thank you! I would have put my number in the paper not thinking before
hand. I will definately take this approach.
