Same thing happened to my SIL when she was pregnant. She was even
hospitalized one night the pain got so bad. The night she spent in
the hospital, the pain disappeared about 4 AM and it never bothered
her again. They had done the blood work and said it was her
    appendix.

I had acute appendicitis (granted, not while pregnant) and the pain was
*so* bad that I couldn't walk.. Hope your partner doesn't have this.

This may seem indelicate, but is she able to go to the toilet as
regularly as she did before she got pregnant? Some pregnant women do
suffer constipation which can cause severe stomach pain after a
while...it can be helped by increasing the fibre intake - as I've found
    out this time around.

    Hope it is resolved soon.

| | Hey Steve, another baby.. what's this the fifth? Must be that water in
    Maine eh?

I also was thinking of constipation. God knows when I had my
    surgeries, it was unbearable.

The vitamens that you get when you are pregnant, although loaded with
iron which will do a number on your stomach too.

| | I had problems, but I have an irritable bowel, and it gets really upset
when I am pregnant and is pretty unpleasant, particularly if I "OD" on
any milk products. I don't drink milk but love cheese and yogurt. My
solution is increasing my fiber, slowly, cutting out cabbage and iceberg
lettuce, and anything else that causes pain when I am not pregnant.

    For what it's worth....

I had an emergency appendectomy at about 2 1/2 to 3 months into my fourth
pregnancy many (28) years ago now. Became very ill, i.e. nausea,
vomiting which began in mid afternoon, intensifying during the night.
The pain was so bad that I swore if there were scissors near my bed, I
would have removed the appendix myself, I was so sure that was the
problem. I was operated on about 20 hours after the onset of the pain.
So, if it's that bad, it usually doesn't go away. My mother had the
same thing, although not while pregnant. The baby was fine....a
    positively beautiful baby girl.

Something else, I ended up having my gall bladder removed about one
year after my fifth, (and last) child was born. In addition to that
one singular appendix attack, I occasionally had sudden attacks of pain
during my pregnancies. The pain would begin in the center of my back,
gradually intensifying, then subsiding. Usually, by the time I reached
the doctor's office, they had stopped. Later, they believed I had been
having gall bladder attacks. I guess pregnancies can aggravate that
condition. So, it's possible this pain could be an indication of a
    problem with the gall bladder.

| | update: well, it has passed again. She said theyre going to check her
gallbladder at the next ultrasound, I remember them looking last time
and saying it looked OK, told her that, she said no they didnt...
and Im wise enough to not argue it at this point :):) shes right :)
If this problem evern gets identified, Ill let others know. >For
now, i just hope it doesnt return (is it returns for more than a couple
days, I suspect the mother-in-law will return also... heres hoping :)

    thanks for the experiences... Steve

I had to have an emergency appendectomy during my 5th month. I
was complaining of nausea and vomitting and severe lower abdomen
pain. This was my first child and I called right away. The OB/GYN
never let me go home. We left his office direct to the hospital
and into surgery. At least I didn't have time to worry.
They told me later that without the surgery we could have lost the
baby, me or both. Glad they didn't say that before I went in. The
resulting scare isn't bad considering my abdomen was trying to expand
while they were holding it together with stiches. The day after
surgery I was so happy just to feel my baby move.
Only gained 11 pounds total after the surgery. The result was a
healthy baby boy. He is now 17 and 6'1.
	I wish you the best.
