| What I meant by "mentally replace..." was that the piece of land known
as Moonstone Beach has been permanently closed down. A couple of years
ago, the New England Naturist Association (NENA) purchased some
beachfront property near the old Moonstone Beach, and opened a private
beach called NENA Beach. All the discussion in the file about NENA
Beach is in the Moonstone note since people tend to think of them as
the same, even though they're not physically the same land.

| In todays local paper there was a brief article about NENA opening a
c/o beach this coming May, on Govenors Island, RI. It is located
between East Beach and the Charlestown Beach. It is a " secluded
32-acre site. Anyone hear anymore about this opening?

| I saw this same AP news article in yesterday's paper. It mentioned that
the new site is only accessible by boat from [xxx] island, or by a 2
1/2 mile hike through the dunes. Since I'm not about to hike 2 1/2
miles, do they mean a private boat (hope not), or a public ferry of
some sort?

| The last information I had about the new private beach club is that
there were going to be two types of membership. One is $200 and it
costs $15 each visit. The other, for $350, includes no fee per visit.
There are supposedly NO drop-in visits allowed for those without
memberships.
The only access to the beach is by boat, and there will be scheduled
boat trips. The boat trip is included in the daily/membership fee.
NENA is actively recruiting members to the Beach Club. Beach Club
membership is separate from NENA membership.
I think this info is accurate but I can't help but wonder if things
might change if the response is not what they hope for...

| Wow! I wonder how many "members" they'll get at those prices. The
main reason I join NENA is to use the beach. Last year, when the
family rate went to $85, that seemed a little steep for me, since we
only get down to the R.I. once or twice a summer. I think you'ld
basically have to live down there and go every single weekend to make
it worth it.

| Indeed!
I think that the family day rate at Cedar Waters is up to $17 or $18;
I'm pretty sure that a Cedar Waters full season membership is in the
$300-400 range. (And it's only an hour from Nashua, versus 2 hours to
Rhode Island.)
Or, for a two hour drive, I can go to the Maine coast, where I can park
for $5 and the beach is still more or less (often less :-( ) clothing
optional.

| For those prices even every weekend wouldn't do it for me.. It would
have to be a daily event, or at least every NICE day. It could cost
less to go to Florida for the weekend!

page 30-something among the obituaries.]
"Ruling Pleases nudist club in R.I."
South Kingstown, R.I.- Members of a nudist club plan to go ahead and open a
clothes-optional beach here after a judge's ruling that no special zoning
exemption was required.
"It's just a beach" said Joseph Di Pippo, former president and adviser to
the board of the New England Naturist Association. "There's not going to
be anything going on there. You just don't have to wear clothes if you
don't want to."
The ruling, by Superior Court Judge Melanie Famiglietti, overturned a decision
by the town's zoning board that the group must obtain an exemption to operate
the half-acre beach it bought last year.
Di Pippo said the club plans to open the the beach for its 750 members from
Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut beginning later this month.
Terrence Simpson, South Kingstown town solicitor, said he would advise the
town council to ask the state Supreme Court to consider an appeal of
Famiglietti's ruling.
