| | I just remembered the nude whale watch. Anyone go on that? How far offshore
did they make you stay dressed?

| | I've gone nuding on a boat (technically, anyways) and we figure it's okay
as long as people on other boats can't see us. If other people don't care,
then it doesn't matter if they see you, so it's better to ask.
I would imagine that it is possible to go nuding while boating and not worry.
I remember people going nude while boating up at the Ledges and even one
person went nude (with a vest) while water-skiing up there. As long as no one
sees or objects, I guess it's okay.

| | On my boat, my wife and I usually go nude as soon as we clear land, unless
we have people aboard who aren't into that sort of thing. It depends on whether
you have a cabin cruiser or a canoe to decide whether you want to nude. Remember,
the water around you intensifies the suns rays, so have protection, especially
early in the season when burns abound.
	As far as laws go, 12 miles out is where you're on your own. Most people
don't go that far out as a rule, so common sense has to prevail. I.E. a crowded
marina may or may not be the place. At anchor in a remote bay is perfect.

| 288.5 | DON'T WATER SKI NUDE! | SAINT::STCLAIR |  | Wed Jan 16 1991 08:43 | 5 |

I strongly suggest that people not water ski nude. Some time ago I remember
reading in one of my Dad's medical journals of a number of men and women
that had fallen sitting and received considerable damage internally when water
forced its way into their bodies. Wear a suit for protection.

| | I understand the safety questions (skiing and sunburn). I was more interested
in the legal and ettiquette. I regularly go 20-30 miles offshore in the summer
for cod and bluefish. My S.O. would be into sitting on the cuddy (in plain
sight on the front of the boat) while I fished (another dangerous thing to
do nude) as she doesn't enjoy fishing.

| 288.7 | A bathing suit doesn't protect | BROKE::THOMAS |  | Wed Jan 16 1991 17:22 | 13 |
| | Being one of the *three* people that Ben was referring to ...

    I've received my share of salt/pond water enemas from poor position
    falls in the past, and in all cases, I was wearing a bathing suit.
    A bathing suit really doesn't provide protection. If you're really
    concerned about the dangers of falling while waterskiing, wear a
    barefoot suit. They're designed to protect you.

    Meanwhile, I plan to ski in the nude the next time I take my boat
    back to the Ledges.

| 288.8 | Nude sailing on Galveston Bay | HSOMAI::MAGUIRE |  | Thu Jan 17 1991 18:47 | 22 |
|  |     Well...
    We've been out sailing many times with friends in Galveston bay and
    it's pretty commonplace for the ladies to at least sun topless once
    they're away from the marina (and quite a few of us go au natural on a
    regular basis) and none of us have run into any problems with the Coast
    Guard or other law enforcement agencies.

    We spent Thanksgiving with friends camped out at Bird Island Basin on
    the north end of Padre Island (about 25 miles south of Corpus Christi)
    to do some windsurfing (or latest hobby). And after killing several
    large bottles of cheap wine, a number of campers decided to try some
    nude windsurfing in the moonlight. To say that it was successful and
    that we had a blast would be an understatement! We can't wait to get
    back down there in the spring to do it again (water temp is now down to
    55-60 degrees, wetsuit weather) after things warm up a bit.

    Just thought I'd throw this in after sitting on the sidelines for the
    last 2 years...

    Chances are, that if you can go boating it in salt water, it is
    under federal control. The Feds have no laws against nudity so
    you are legally safe. Many rivers are under Federal control and
    you can go nude while on the water. An example are the common
    canuding trips on the Delaware River.

(I was REALLY tempted this Sunday AM. Got up to 66 in Somerville. If not
for the wind and prediction of bad weather later in the day...)
