If you haven't heard yet, Australia had an earthquake today. The
hardest hit by the quake was "Newcastle". Sources say it measured
5.5 on the richter. 10 people killed, and 120 injured.

    I hope Peter is OK.

| | Anybody with a map of Australia handy and can tell us where Newcastle is
located compared to Sydney? I also hope Peter and his family are OK.

| | I heard on the radio that it is about 120 km north-east of Sydney.
Apparently Newcastle got the worst of it, but Sydney still was
    affected.

Heard reports of high-rise structural damage, causing many buildings to
    be unsafe to be in.

| | I suspect that the Digital facility in Sydney is OK. I was able to
set-host to any of the machines in their clusters without difficulty.

| | As Darrell mentioned Newcastle is north of Sydney. The quake was
felt in Sydney, especially in high-rise buildings. We did not notice
it at all, we were in a train at the time.

I have no news of any Digits in Newcastle, there is a field service
    office there.

    Have a happy new year!!

Peter.

Digital - Australian employees OK after severe earthquake
	{Livewire, 29-Dec-89}
All Australian Digital employees are reported safe following an earthquake
that struck Dec. 28 at 10:38 a.m. (Australian time). There have been no
reports of property damage in any of the areas where facilities are located,
including New Castle, one of the hardest hit communities. The Sydney
headquarters office was successfully evacuated and as a precautionary measure
the building will be surveyed by a structural engineer. The quake measured 5.5
on the Richter scale, with an epicenter about 50 miles north west of Sydney.
The New Castle branch office is the closest Digital facility to the
 epicenter.

| 211.9 | Report | AUSSIE::BELL | Charitas Patiens est | Fri Feb 02 1990 21:22 | 26 |
| | Hi all,

We are back from holidays, safe and sound, relaxed, and somewhat
    browner.

We spent the first two weeks at home, going to Reef Beach a few
times, when it was hot enough. Elizabeth and I enjoyed watching
a family who have been regulars at Reef Beach for many years. The
parents are always nude, and when they were younger the three children
(all girls) were also nude. Now that they are aproaching the teen
years they have taken to wearing costums, but this day the two oldest
deceided to remove their costumes in the water, with comments like
"Thats better" and enjoyed swimming around. But before they came
out of the water they put their costumes on again!

The third week we stayed with my mother-in-law, circumstances and rain
    prevented us going nude.

Then we had two weeks on the south coast of Australia, at my Mother's
Holiday house at Fairhaven. We went to Southside Beach for one day
there was a cold southery blowing, and only two nude people on the
beach. Jennifer and I stripped off and went for a quick swim, not
bad in the water, but cold out.

Peter.
