| | 9-Lives is one that I can't buy. Lightning has Cystitus. Isn't that
one of the poorer grades of cat food?

I've seen Nutraselect at the Petco in Manchester NH. Do you have one
in your area. It used to be called Just for Pets before... (the
    store).

| | There was one flavor of Nine Lives, I forget which one, that made my
cats instantly throw up, and not because they were eating too fast.
Mine get WD or CD now.

| | How about Friskies Buffet? Does anyone else use it? My new kittys
Marius and Cosette get beef'n liver and turkey giblets. My other kittys
    loved the stuff.

I have noticed a drop in consumption from them the last few days. I'm
hoping it's due to the humidity and nothing else.

| | the firm hasn't been devouring their food lately, either. I think it is
    just the weather change.

| | SophistaCat is the only brand I have tried feeding my brood that they
absolutely refused to eat. These guys will usually eat anthing I put
down for them. I even tried to mix tuna with it they still turned
    their nose up.

| | Ditto on Andie's appetite. She could care less this week about eating.
We did get home yesterday to find she had thrown up on our comforter.
No fever or other symptoms. I just gave her the fur ball medicine
    on Sunday.

Is the weather or maybe allergies?

Besides Iams, etc... Purina is good, hard to find though, Purity
carries them. Paws is the Canadian equivalent of Iams, Star Market
carries that. Frigaro - tuna, tuna and shrimp is good, but it *smells*
so I feed my cats Figaro out on the deck. I don't use all the
commerical brands anymore, I've found things in the cans that are
not supposed to be in there, like styrofoam!

| | I get some cat vitamins from my vet called 'Nu-Cat' and I crush up 2-4
of these, a little Echinacea herb (good for immune system) and
sometimes a little brewer's yeast and mix this with a can of Fancy
Feast. They have lots of varieties, some of them sound good enough for me
to eat! I gave this concoction to Polly Face when she was pregnant, and
now while she's nursing. She and the kittens look very healthy.
Often I make up a batch of this for the other 3 cats, sometimes with
Friskies Beef and Liver, which they like.

I figure, I take vitamins--why shouldn't they? These Nu Cat vitamins
are really good. I know a lot about vitamins and really read the
labels. These things are excellent. I haven't found any other ones
nearly as good. I think you can only get them from the vet; about
    $7/bottle.

Be careful with the Brewer's Yeast, I gave Polly a bad case of the
burps by overdoing it once! Just a 1/2 teaspoon or so is good.

| | Our vet suggested we use dry food, after a few dry runs, Bits decided
he liked Purina Kitten Chow, then after a few months we started to give
him Purina Regular Cat Food, this he likes.
He never cadges, does not even look at the dinner table, never looks at
a plate that has had any other food on it.
As a matter of fact, he will give you a very nasty look if you try to
give him something that is not in his bowl, (here Bits, it's cheese,
    very nice)

    Is this cat normal?

    Of course he is.

He seems to know what is good for him and I am willing to go along with
    that

| 1002.13 | extra vit E? | MARIN::WANNOOR |  | Tue Jun 04 1996 12:24 | 9 |
| |
Wellie goes crazy over Vit E oil. We both discovered this accidentally
when I broke open a gelcap to apply some over scratches (which he
bestowed on me), and he went crazy licking it off. So it is a good
idea to add vit E as a supplement (I know it is already incorp. in
his catfood)? I also luck out with Wellie which does not care for
human food except for scallops, shrimp, chicken and turkey. So no
    begging problem here.

| 1002.14 | Only use vitamins from the vet | AXPBIZ::SWIERKOWSKIS | Now that we're organized, what's next? | Tue Jun 04 1996 14:01 | 7 |
| | I wouldn't give my kitties any vitamins without the explicit go ahead from
the vet. Some vitamins are toxic to animals, although I don't know about E
specifically. Unless there's a medical problem that the vet is treating, I'd
stick with whatever foods Wellie normally eats and leave the supplements
alone.
