| Susan...I have a wicker hamper that the cats just LOVE
to claw on..even though I have about 3 cat trees they can
use!! I think they just like the feels of the wicker
between their toes and they can sharpen their claws!!
Wicker is another item I have put on my list as DO not buy
with cats!!!! You should see what my hamper looks like!!!

| Smokey does go in everything she can get in (box, even pot) and rubs.
She also likes the vicker basket very much. I vote they like to be
'inside' of something, and may be the plant vicker has some nice
natural taste, too.

When my three littermates were little little kittens, Sandy brought
over a cute little wicker cradle/basket, which they liked to sleep in.
They've since utterly shredded it. I keep finding pieces of wicker
in every nook and cranny. In my shoes. In my bed.
len, who loves them anyway...

| I own eight cats and am looking to find a home for 4 kittens and most
of my home has been decorated by pier one. I am all for wicker and
cats. The cost to repair the clawing of furniture is less expensive
that of cloth furniture or even leather. I believe that felines, in
general are born to stretch and claw items. Indoor cats will do this
to wicker even more because it is the closest they get to wood or
trees.
One of the kittens climed the tire of my mountain bike to lie in a
wicker basket that was hanging on the handle bars.
I do own over 400 wicker baskets so needless to say there is more than
enough for them to enjoy curling up in. They do have one designated
basket that they most of their heavy duty clawing on.
The other thing with them rubbing against it has nothing to do with the
feel, but it has more to do with their leaving a scent behind. Very
territorial animals.
I say go out and find an inexpensive wicker piece that they can enjoy.
The dogs have their bones and cats have wicker. If you look at cards
or calendar photo's there is a quilt, boston fern, wicker chair, basket
or whatever and a cat or kittens.
By the way if you need to fix your wicker furniture just use a piece of
sandpaper to get it smooth, then if it is painted try to match the
paint and sponge it on or whatever method you find comfortable with.
If it is stained do the same but the application method may be
different.
If you like wicker and don't want your cat to scratch it, well it will
be fruitless when no one is home, but for the items they are not
allowed to damage I keep a spray bottle of water around to remind them
that this is unacceptable behavior.
Cute story to end this, I have one especially light and airy wicker
basket that I keep their toys in and when the nieces, nephews and
neighborhood children came to visit they found this the best basket to
carry the kittens in and even use as a cage to temporarily hold them
in. After days of doing this I found that the five to six week old
kittens hanging around (on their carpeted play thing) and around the
wicker basket. They had managed to capture one of their own
littermates and watch him sleep in his holding "tank".
Life without them would force me to hook up to cable!

My cat loves to curl up in a wicker fruit basket I have in my kitchen..
I've recently surrendered it to her.

| Leaving my wickerized (not a word in the dictionary) home today you'd
find the four kittens curled up in the laundry basket. The two lovers
Anastacia and Timothy William on the shelf under the glass wicker
table, great to watch while you are eating.
Clarrise my crossed eyed psuedo siames perched on the wicker armoire
scanning the skies for the phantom flying mice. While Christopher
Robin, apricot siamese with big blue eyes, was keeping the big basket
warm for the kittens. They usually find their way to sleeping with
him, since mother is no longer interested in feeding them and would
rather hang with Timothy.
Rocky Buttercup and Thumbellina draped themselves in the wicker chairs.
While the others found comfort in other areas.
The kittens have found out that they can jump from the basement couch
to the baskets hanging from the rafters. I have yet to see them
come down, but they do.
Great photo oppurtunities when you have baskets and cats. They may
even earn their keep by the photo shoots.
