610.0. "Warning - dangerous toy for kittens..." by PULSAR::CHAPMAN () Sun Sep 19 1993 09:20
Moderator, please move this if opening a new note on this subject is
not appropriate -- I did check to see if there was a "warning" note.

For the past 2-3 years my grown cats have enjoyed a wonderful toy --
however, I almost lost my kitten because of it. The toy is a large
square fiberboard and plastic box about 20" x 20" x 4". The top and
four sides have geometric shapes cut out -- and you drop toys and
balls, and the cat can fish them out of any of the holes, bat them
around, climb on top, lay on their sides. My cats played with this
    for hours.

My new kitten, Tiki, was about 10 weeks and weighed in at about 3
pounds. I walked into the living room and she had squeezed through one
of the holes on the top and had her head wedged in one of the side
holes. I cannot imagine how she got through the holes on top -- the
maximum hole size appears to be about 2" wide. Since the material is
fiberboard I had to use metal cutting shears to get her out. The
construction is so sturdy that scissors or a knife would not have
    worked.

The toy is sold for around $26 to $30 and is called an Egyptian temple,
or some such. On the original packaging there was a picture of a cat
with an ancient Egyptian headress on. If I had any idea how dangerous
this could be I would have put it away until Tiki was fully grown -- it
    is a great toy.

| | I'm so glad your kitten is alright. It's truly amazing what a tiny
little kitten can climb into. I've been thinking of getting something
similar but now will wait until Silver Lining (our newest addition to
the family) is a little older.
