I obtained the prices below from the Putnam Vet Clinic in
Northboro. Note all these prices will change starting
tomorrow (1/1/93) - apparently annual price increase at New
Year is a common practice! Also I was informed that starting
in mid-Feb, all cats in Mass must have rabies shots, and must
display info on a collar tag (certificates alone are
insufficient).
I'm looking for other prices in the MetroWest area
(Northboro, Shrewsbury, Marlboro etc) and recommendations
too. So today's (12/31/91) fees are:
Fel. Leukemia test $20
Fel. " shots (need 2) 20 each
Neutering 40
Rabies shot & exam 31 (sans tag now)
distemper booster 7 each
My first reaction is..WOW!! Wellie better start looking for a job
to earn his keep!!

I don't have prices at my fingertips, but can recommend a
good vet. We've used the Hudson Animal Hospital for some
years now and the doctors there are great. In particular
I would recommend Dr. Beth Essington.
Even when we moved to Northboro, I kept the two furfaces
with Dr. Essington (who was formerly at a Stow clinic).

I'd recommend Dr. Linda Breitman, in Grafton. 508/839-9678. She's been
doing a good job handling our circus, and she make *house calls*.

I remember when I first got Jimmies. Brought her (that turned out
to be a him when I tried to make the appointment to have her/him
spayed. They all got a good laught out of that) to the vet for all
the first shots. Got a leukemia check, rabies shot, distemper,
overall physical, immune deficiency test, nails clipped, stuff like
that. Almost 100.00 dollars. Thought I was going to drop right there!
Then I brought HIM to get neutered (which was cheaper than being
spayed, thank goodness) and have two claws pulled. He's double pawed
and the doctore recommended pulling out the two not attached to
cartilage(sp?). They ended up pulling four because he found two more
in the middle of the double paw part. So, all in all the cat's cost
me about $175.00 which was well worth it to know he's happy and
healthy. From the love I get from him it was worth the money.

Getting the middle one removed was a good idea. The late Argus J
Pussycat, Esq was triple pawed, and that middle claw (which he wouldn't
let me clip) used to curl up and grow right into his paw pad. It was
*Very* uncomfortable for him (and got infected more than once).
Removing it changed his catsonality for the better.
