What about Goldie, the two year old Persian that Karen Fallon wants to
place for $50 into a good home? She is already spayed, box trained,
vaccinated, and gets along well with other cats. Plus, Cin bred her,
so you know she has to be a wonderful kitty!

You might want to run this by Steve, seeing as he will pay a lot more
for a Persian kitten, which will need to be vaccinated, neutered, etc.

    Just a thought.

    -Roberta

| | Just to let you all know, Nancy M. (I forgot and it's at home ;'}) will be
coming over to see Goldie next weekend. I spoke with her for some time and
she seems very nice! Goldie will be going to live with her dad as a
companion. Gee, I know "it's the right thing to do", but I'm really gonna
miss my frewfrew cat! She will have to send pic's!!! that's all!

| | Bad news, I guess Nancy can't take Goldie. So, if anyone is still
interested she is available. You can read a little more about her
    in .1 that Roberta entered.

I just had her what I call "zip-cut". Basically, she has all her hair
but I have a racing stripe down her belly shaved. This prevents her
hair from getting matted between her legs where it is very fine and
curly. She is in great shape and is up to date on all shots, rabies,
3-in-one, luek and fip. She is just biding her time at my place til
someone wants to love her for their own!
You can call home at 508-256-3371
    Thanks for all your help.

| 464.10 | Choosing a Persian kitten | VISA::GALLACHER |  | Tue May 10 1994 08:55 | 19 |
| |
  hello,
is there anything special I should look for when choosing a Persian kitten?
I don't know anything about them, except that they seem to have very loving
characters. At least, the two I've known have, which is why I'm particularly
  interested in that breed...
I'm planning to go to a breeder in about three weeks when most of their
kittens will be ready to leave, so any tips would be appreciated! By
the way, I want the cat purely as a pet, not to show - so should I look for
anything other than the cutest?? They all seem to be the same price - is
there a colour that's supposedly "better" than the others? Also, some
Persians seem to have rather squashed in faces, while others have fairly
retrousse noses? Are these both Persians?
  thanks,
  Linda

| 464.11 | Some things I know of from my friend.... | STOWOA::FALLON | Moonsta Cattery | Tue May 10 1994 13:44 | 10 |
| | Linda,
There are differences in the type of face that persians have as you
say. What you want to look for is one that doesn't have a real problem
with the tear ducts getting blocked. Also malocclusion does happen and
this is one reason some great cats are placed as pets. It is not such
a bad thing as long as it is not a REAL bad malocclusion (the way the
teeth meet up or crooked jaw). Some lines are more prone than others as
far as matting goes. If you are prepared to comb them regularly and
bathe them regularly this won't pose a problem. I hope this helps!

 Hi Karen,
thanks for the tips - I had a Persian kitten before, unfortunately, he
developed a tumour in his kidney, which the vet couldn't do anything about,
and I had to have him put down. Poor baby was only just over a year old.
He did have problems with his eyes, they were always blocking up at the
inside corners and no amount of cat eyes drops and solutions from the vet
seemed to do any good long term. I would like to avoid that problem this time
 - how can I tell if the eyes look relatively clean when I visit??
I didn't mind the washing and combing at all. My cat used to look hilarious
when I took him out of the bath, and so sorry for himself!
 thanks,
 Linda

| | Linda .. also look for the cleanliness of the cattery. If the cattery
is clean, then most likely the kittens are healthy.

What is the name of the breeder that you're getting the cat from? Some
    of us might know them.

| 464.14 | I'm looking for a French Persian | VISA::GALLACHER |  | Wed May 11 1994 07:57 | 11 |
| |
  hello Holly,
I'm in France, so I doubt if you'll know them. I hope they're OK because
they seem to be the only Persian cattery in the area. The only other choice
is a small chain of pet shops, which is where I got Otis, my last cat. The
vet told me that they didn't have a good reputation, and poor Otis did seem
to have more than his fair share of eye and ear infections.

| | sorry Linda .. I didn't realize you were in FRANCE.

Anyway .. like I said .. check the cleanliness of the cattery.
Personally, if you're not looking for a show cat, I'd suggest looking
for a persian with a longer nose than most. This would mean that the
tear ducts are a little more open, because the cat isn't as "extreme"
(meaning that the face isn't as pushed in as the show cats are). Being
less extreme, the cat may not have as many problems with it's tear
    ducts or with breathing.

    Holly
