| I live in the Wash, DC area, but there are pet stores around here that
rent cages. You may want to call a few in your area, and see if they
have any to rent. (I rented one for $8/week)

| Just to update, I picked up the cage from Taylor Rental this
evening. It is much larger than I had thought. It cost $6/week,
which seems very reasonable. Mr. Misha, however, is not entirely
pleased with the "Hotel Tokyo." Has anyone else out there had any
experience with 17 lbs of cat who does *not* want to stay in his
cage? Several times I have been afraid he would hurt himself and
I don't know how he will be while I am at work. Do they eventually
calm down?
Thanks to the advice of another noter, we also have an appointment
with an animal psychologist next week. Perhaps it will help, I've
tried everything else....We'll keep our fingers and paws crossed!

| Most of the cats that are brought to the shelter our caged at first...
and over time they do calm down and get use to the cage.
But then again...I have Van Gogh who hates the cage....and no matter
how long I keep him in it...he tries to dig his way out. I'm not sure
if he really hates the cage...or he is trying to get out to kill one
of the other furfaces!
Good luck with Misha...and if he does go to the PB shelter...let me
know and I will give him many hugs and kisses on the days I'm there.
Instead of a cage...is it possible to confine him in a small room!
(like bathroom, hallway, cellar)

Who is the animal psychologist you have an appointment with? I've been
talking with my vet about Wrigley, my "problem child". The vet has made
some suggestions and says Wrigley may outgrow his problem behavior.
If not, he suggested I consider talking to an animal behaviorist. (Is
there a difference between an animal psychologist and an animal
behaviorist?) He recommended Dr. Amy Marder, who's in the Boston area,
but I don't know anything about her.
I hope you can find a happy solution to Misha's problem. Please let us
know how you (or should I say Misha) make(s) out with the psychologist.

| Well, Misha won't be going back into the cage. After one night,
I came downstairs to find a sorry looking and exhausted feline.
He had rubbed and pushed against the cage so hard he rubbed the
fur off underneath his eyes, and he looked like he hurt all over. He
had peed all over the cage and all over himself. He had totally
wrecked the carpet I had placed underneath the cage to protect the
wall-to-wall carpet. He was hoarse from meowing all night. He's
still walking a bit stiffly after a day. We'll see what Betty
Lewis says (the animal psychologist) next week. In the meantime,
I guess I'll just keep cleaning up after him....I don't have the
heart to put him back in the cage.

| Hi,
I need to borrow/rent a cage that is 4' long by 2' wide by 2'
high. It also needs a door that's about 1'x2'. I tried a couple of
Taylor Rentals in my area, but they didn't have any cages, much less
something this big.
I need this cage to transport two peacocks with full tails
(imagine birds that are 1' long with 3' long tails, and you can see the
problem). I have farm-disinfectants at home, so I will take very good
care of your cage and then thoroughly disinfectant and clean it before
I return it.

After a couple of days, he wasn't worse for the wear and seemed
back to his old affectionate self. We are seeing the animal
psychologist tomorrow. Hopefully she can help him. If not,
I don't know what to do. Sending him to a shelter where he'll
be in the cage he hates so much seems awfully cruel, especially
since he will have little hope for adoption....

| Update on Misha:
After going to the holistic specialist today, I must say I would
give very high marks to Betty Lewis of Amherst, NH.
She was great with Misha, who was surprisingly relaxed and talkative,
and made some excellent recommentations about how to handle his
problem. I was amazed at the amount of information she "read"
from Misha and how she conveyed information to him. I would
recommend her to anyone who is having a problem with their
animal(s). I will keep you posted on Misha's progress.

| Mary-Michael,
Could you either post or mail me Betty's phone number? I was unable to
find her in the phone book. I'm having a similar problem with one of
my cats and have been thinking about giving this a try. Also, if
anyone knows of a good holistic vet closer to Manchester NH, I'd
appreciate the info.

Looking to borrow a Tokyo cage........ (these are the metal
mesh cages, right?)
Barring any unforseen problems, I will be adopting kitty
#4. A black fuzzy baby with long white hairs on his feet.
He's a feral baby who was rescued along with two of his siblings
and is currently residing in the Furniture Warehouse in Manchester.
Anyone who lives in the area might want to stop by here. I call
it the "outreach center" for the Manchester Animal Shelter. The
woman there, Joanne, takes in Mom cats and babies, ferals, injured
etc and nurses them back to health, socializes them and gets them
ready for adoption. This baby was just brought in a couple days
ago so he will stay with Joanne till Saturday. If he seems to be
ok (one of his littermates wobbles when trying to stand up) I'll
be picking him up on Saturday and bringing him to the vet for
distemper, FeLV, and FIV tests. Then I'll keep him in the
downstairs bathroom till test results come back and maybe for
a few extra days after that. With him being feral (though it
seems these babies will be easy to socialize, they don't fight
much at all when picking them up), the intro to the household
will have to be a slow process. After bringing him out of
the bathroom, I'd like to have him in a cage for at least
another week while everyone checks each other out. I'll call
Taylor-Rental if I need to but I thought I'd check in here
and see if anyone in the Nashua has one I can borrow for a
couple weeks. It obviously doesn't need to be very big.
Probably a couple feet square would be sufficient.
