    Help! Help!  Robinson has walked off again.

    He has gone missing before but only for a couple of days and is capable
    of walking over 2 miles in one day (that was around a lake so he
    couldn't get lost).  He left sometime on the afternoon of Thanksgiving 
    and I haven't seen him since.   I AM VERY, VERY WORRIED.

    My sister-in-law has lost her cat.  The cat is a small calico
    kitty.  She weigh's approximately 10 pounds.   She's black with
    orange (sort of like brindle).  She lives in Westboro on East

    MISSING...
    
    One small, black, female cat with gold eyes; approx. 7 months of 
    age; has been spayed.  Answers to the name of Shelby when her mom 
    calls her.  Is very shy and formerly feral so may not come to just 
    anyone.  This cat is my Onyx's sibling and I think that, like him, 
    she has a few white hairs in her bikini area.
    
    Disappeared in the vicinity of Boynton Ave. and Blackford Ave. (near 
    Moorpark and San Tomas area) in San Jose, Calif. on Tuesday 1/7/92.
    
    The woman who owns Shelby is very upset.  She has put an ad in the
    paper in the lost pets section.  Her friend and I have not been able
    to reach her today and her answering machine isn't on either.  This 
    is unusual and because of it we're expecting to receive bad news about
    Shelby.  But, I thought I'd try to think positively and place this add 
    and go to the Humane Society tonight to look for her.
    
    Since I don't have permission to leave Chris' or Angie's phone numbers

    Jan,  If the cat snuck out of the house and is lost in the
    neighborhood...your friend might consider putting out a have-
    a-hart to tray and capture it if she does return for food.
    
    This happened just recently to another feliner who captured her
    cat after one month of it being gone....it really never left
    the neighborhood...but was so scared it wouldn't come when called.

    Thanks for the tip Sandy but I'm afraid I have bad news.  I didn't
    know it when I posted that lost note but the cat was found on 
    Thursday afternoon.  The woman that lost her has been too upset
    to return phone calls or even talk about it.  She left a message
    on a friends answering machine on Saturday and was crying and hung
    up before she completed the message.  She did not return my call
    at all.
    
    I heard from her friend today that on Thursday they found Shelby.
    She had been hit by a car.  Apparently the guy who hit her knocked
    on some doors in the area to try to find the owner.  He found a 
    neighbor who remembered seeing Chris' card about her lost cat.
    
    If nothing else, I am hoping that this is incentive to Chris to 
    keep her other cat in.  Shelby was only about 7 months old and as
    a formerly feral cat it was recommended she not be let out.  I'm
    a little sensitive about this issue right now so I'd best not get
    going on it.
    
    Nancy DC, if you're reading this...could you please add Shelby to
    the Silver Lining Memorial.  I'll try to find that topic and add
    her name there too.

Here's one happy ending ... Byrne just showed up on my doorstep this morning!
I have no idea what happened to him, or where he was. He's as bright-eyed and
affectionate as ever, but he has definitely lost some weight. Should I take
him to the vet and have him checked over?

    Yabba Dabba Do....I just love happy endings.  If you decide not
    to take him to the vets...just watch him carefully and you should
    be able to determine if he is not up to par.

    I'm really sorry about Shelby.
    

    My little Hershey disappeared last night.  She's an 8-month
    old black tortie, indoor/outdoor cat, that has never been out for more
    that an hour at a time.  She always stays within hearing distance and 
    comes every time I call her.  She went out at 9 last night, and when
    I called her at 9:30, she didn't come back.  In fact I stayed up all
    night calling her and shaking the food box, but she still didn't come.
    This morning I walked all over the woods behind my house and around
    the neighborhood, and still no luck.  I'm still in the process of
    calling vets and shelters and I put up a poster with a picture of 
    her at the corner store.
    
    Hershey was last seen on March 24 in Auburn NH.  If anyone sees her
    or has any information concerning her, please call me at

    Is Hershey spayed?  If not, she may have wandered off in search of a
    mate, if she is currently in season (heat).
    
    Just inquiring.  Good idea to post signs with pics and call the local
    vets/shelters.  Talk to neighbors, especially children, who always seem
    to know where the kitties are hanging out.

    She could potentially be stuck in someones garage, shed, cellar..

    Great news -- Hershey showed up last night around 9pm, 2 full days
    after disappearing!  She seems to be healthy, other than being
    dehydrated and having lost a lot of weight.  She must not have had
    any food or water for 2 days.  She was just as happy to see me and 
    be home as I was to have her back!

    Barbara....so so happy Hershey came home.  I do know the feeling
    of them coming back home....first you want to kill them for putting
    you through that...but then you just pick em up and hug em and cry!!

    Wonderful news , Barbara!!  I am so glad Hershey returned!  I had a cat
    once that got locked into the model condo of our complex (just like the
    noter who shared a similar story yesterday).  Maybe Hershey got trapped
    somewhere as well.

    LOST SINCE MONDAY NITE:
    
    	"Sylvester" type cat, female, answers to the name of TURBO.
    
    	Turbo is an indoor only cat that got loose from her home
    	accidentally on Monday nite.  Despite combing the surrounding
    	neighborhoods, TURBO has not been found.  She managed to
    	escape out the door the same time as her canine brother 
    	escaped, and a day later the dog catcher in Marlboro, MA
    	found the dog and cat on Upland Road.  He took the dog,
    	but left the cat, saying "We don't have facilities for cats
    	so I did not take her."  
    
    	The owners are frantic.  Turbo is a very affectionate cat,
    	and would likely let folks near her, or even let you take her
    	into your home.  If you see a long-hair black and white cat 
    	with a flea collar (that may be half-hidden in fur), please 
    	notify either:

    	Yesterday was Allison's 20th birthday....needless to say, it was

    Re:  .23  Turbo the Sylvester cat
    
    Just wanted to update everyone on Turbo.  Thankfully, Turbo has
    been returned to his home.  Allison is estatic!  Apparantly,
    Turbo didn't wander far.  When the dog officer picked up Turbo's
    canine brother, the woman who owned the property took Turbo in.
    In fact, the woman saw the dog and cat together, thought the
    dog was attacking the cat, and picked Turbo up to "rescue" her.
    The dog, thinking the woman was taking his friend,  bit
    the woman, and so was apprehended by the dog officer and put
    in 48 hour quarantine.  Turbo, nonplussed, was taken into the
    woman's home and fed and pampered!  The woman planned to put
    an ad in the paper an find Turbo's owner.  Meanwhile, she had
    made out formal complaints about the dog and was sueing.  She later
    found out that both the dog and cat had the same "parents."  She
    is still sueing, but Turbo has been happily reunited with Allison,
    and is now living back in the lap of luxury being pampered to death.
    
    Needless to say, doors will NOT be left accidentally opened near
    either animal again.

    MISSING CAT!
    
    We have lost our Grey Tiger with a white bib and paws in the vicinity
    of Cabot Rd. and Matthew Dr. in Merrimack, NH.
    
    We just moved to this house on Friday and Tinkerbelle got out on
    Saturday.  We haven't seen her since.  She will probably try to go back
    to our old house which is near Belmont Dr. and Back River Rd. also in
    Merrimack.
    
    I think there are alot of DEC people who live in both these areas. 
    PLEASE keep an eye out for her, she's very sweet and we're very upset
    that she's gone.

    Linda...you must be going bonkers!!  Good luck in your search for
    Tinkerbelle....you might consider placing an Ad in your local 
    paper, checking vets/shelters, leaving pamphlets on telephone poles,
    and walking the neighborhood calling her name.  Do you have any
    neighbors from your old neighborhood that can look for her if she
    does go back!

    Well, it seems Tinkerbelle has gone back to our old house.  The new
    owners have seen her there.  They have given me permission to go over
    anytime to try to get her back.  Last night we left some dry food for
    her up on an elevated rabbit hutch.  This morning when I checked the
    food was gone.  I'm sure Tink ate it because the bowl was near the
    house and strange cats never used to come into our yard because of our
    dog.  However, she won't come to me when called.  I'm sure she's
    terrified and VERY confused!
    
    I was thinking of getting a HavaHeart trap for her - are these safe for
    cats?  I was thinking of putting the trap on top of the rabbit hutch
    with her bowl in it.  Do you think she'll go in it?
    
    Right now I'm a basket case because a very nice person came by and said
    they saw a dead cat on the median strip on Everett Tpk.  It was quite a
    distance from our old house and he wasn't sure of the exact color of
    the cat.  I don't know why Tink would have gone that far from the "old
    neighborhood" but will be checking it out in a little while.

    Only use the Have-a-heart if someone will be around to monitor
    it every hour or so.   They are safe as long as the kitty doesn't
    have to stay in them for a long time.  They will try to dig there
    way out...and they could get hurt trying.
    
    If you do use the have-a-heart...you must not leave any other
    food around because she won't go in the trap!  this sounds
    mean...but it is the only way to trap her.   Possibly take a
    nice long walk around the neighborhood/woods and call her
    softly.  I'm sure she is SO confused and hopefully she will
    recognize your voice....but the trap might be the only way
    to get her.

    I checked with the Highway Dept and they said they picked up a Black
    and Brown cat on Everett Tpk.  Tink's a silver/grey with white.  My
    only concern is the cat was found in the exact area by our old house. 
    I can't imagine they could be off on the color that badly bu I'm sure
    I'm having wishful thinking.
    
    I've walked all through the woods near our old house calling (probably
    driving the neighbors crazy!).  My feeling is that she's there, just
    too frightened to come out.
    
    I want to do the trap tonight - the only problem is I can't really ask
    the new people to monitor the trap every hour - they're already letting
    me come over whenever I want, leave food, etc.  I plan on stopping by
    the house after work (around 4), then heading back about 9:00 or so. 
    If I can't get her then, I would like to set the trap.  I'm sure the
    people will check it until they go to bed but if Tink does go in it
    during the night, she'll be in it for several hours (unless she wakes
    them up).
    
    I'm just so scared that was her on the highway.....

    LInda, is there any way to check about the highway cat?  Might s/he not
    have been disposed of yet?
    

    Well, we think alike!  I just tried calling them with no answer.  I'll
    keep trying.  I just have this horrible feeling that it was Tink. 
    Hopefully, they have to keep animals separate from "general" highway
    pickups.

    Linda, do you have a picture of your cat that you could take over to
    the Highway Department to show them?  Whether or not the cat was yours
    that they found, maybe they'd be better off identifying it?  Seeing any
    animal after it's been hit is so unpleasant.  Let's hope it wasn't your
    moggy!  :^(

    I don't want to get to graphic here but, the highway department
    here in Santa Clara county takes the animals they pick up to the
    Humane Society.  The Humane Society will hold all these animals
    in a refridgerated room for a number of days (I think they said
    10 days) before sending them to be buried.  I know this because
    I had to go with my sister, Jaci, to identify her dog after we
    found a DOA notice at the Humane Society for a dog who sounded
    similar (the color listed on the DOA notice was just slightly
    different than dog's actual color, it didn't sound like her but
    we had this feeling it might be and just had to be sure).
    
    I just want you to know that it is very difficult to spend any
    time in this room.  But, knowing it that it was Duchess made it 
    easier for Jaci to deal with the trauma of losing her and go through
    her grieving process.  Not knowing what had happened was much worse.
    
    I'm telling you this story hoping that perhaps your local highway
    department functions in a similar manner and takes the animals to
    the Humane Society.  If so, there may be a chance you can go there
    and check the animal to be sure it is/isn't your cat.  I've got my
    fingers crossed that it was not your cat.

    Let's go with the assumption that your cat is still around your
    old house.  Go to your new home and find a scatter rug/piece of
    clothing any thing that would smell familiar to her and lay it
    somewhere where she can lay on it and eat off it. This may make her
    more sure that things aren't so bad after all. Maybe put the trap
    on top of these articles (with some sticking out) and try luring
    her that way.

    Well, the Hwy. Dept. here buries the cats near where they're found. 
    So, I'm meeting the guy who buried the cat tomorrow at noon.  I told
    the boss that I only need to see the cats front paws to tell if it's
    Tink.  She has six toes.  I'm not looking forward to this but HAVE to
    know if the cat they found is her.  If it is Tink, I'll have them
    unbury her and I'll bury her at the new house.  My six year old sone
    will be DEVASTATED if she's dead but at least we'll know and can start
    the grieving process.  I had to leave work early today as I was already
    getting watery eyes about the whole thing.
    
    I am going to the old house tonight around 9 to try for her again.
    
    Thanks for all the advice - I will definitely let everyone know what
    the outcome is....pray for good news!

    Update:
    
    The cat on the hwy WAS NOT Tink!  The man was very nice and VERY gently
    uncovered the cats paws.  I got a look at three paws and even spread
    apart one of the front ones - DEFINITELY not six-toed!  All the people
    at the Hwy Dept. were very friendly and didn't make me feel silly - I
    was very impressed.  The man who buried the cat said from now on he's
    going to make sure to mark the spots were they bury cats, dogs, etc. in
    case they get calls.
    
    Next step is a Havaheart trap - the food I left yesterday was gone
    again this morning so I know she's there.  I'm buying one after work
    and will set it up with my husband.  I really think that's the only way
    we'll get her - she has SO many places to hide in our old area - she
    probably watches me when I'm there and is too frightened and confused
    to come to me.
    
    Hoepfully I'll have REALLY good news tomorrow!

    Linda, since I know where Mary lives and have a rough idea of where you
    live and it's sorta on my way home - I'll volunteer to pick up the trap
    and help you with it.  Then when you are done with the trap, I'm sure
    Mary will let me borrow it so that I can go after this one particular

    SHE'S HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    
    Tinkerbelle is back!  It took two days with the Havahart but chicken
    livers and opening both ends of the trap worked!  She "yelled" at me
    all the way home and demanded FOOD the second we walked in the house.  
    
    She seems to be none the worst for wear - one tick and a tiny bit
    skinnier.  She also seems to be very realxed at this house now - of
    course she must be so relieved to be back with people she knows!
    
    Needless to say, the kids are under STRICT ORDERS to watch the door
    when they go in and out and Tink will be housebound for at LEAST a
    week!
    
    There is now another "DECCIE-Owned" Havahart trap available for loan to
    anyone who needs it in the Merrimack area.

    Evan's been lost for a week and I'm starting to loose
    hope....
    
    My husband and I recently moved from our home of 5
    years (Grafton) to my sister's (Princeton).  Evan
    is 8 years old and has always been an indoor/outdoor
    cat.  We kept him in for 2 weeks then decided to
    let him out.  Everything was fine except he was 
    fighting with the neighbors cat across the street
    and I was concerned he'd get hit soooooo I suggested
    to my husband to bring evan to my brother's
    (Northboro) because my brother lives in a woodsy
    area.
    
    Off to my brother's with evan.  Evan was very stressed
    at this point and I had a gut feeling that I should
    of just left him be but I really believed I was doing
    what was best for him.  Well, this was Thursday and
    Friday (5/22) evan accidently got out and hasn't been 
    seen since.  
    
    My husband and I have combed the area every night.
    We've distributed 150 flyers within a 2 mile radius.
    We've posted flyers at nearby businesses.  We've
    randomly spoke with people.  We've scoured the woods
    within a 1 mile radius.  We've spoken to the dog
    officer, police, Worcester Resque League.  I can't
    imagine what happened.  Is there anything else we
    could do??  Some folks have suggested that evan is
    making his way back to Grafton. 
    
    Evan is not a pet he's a companion.  He's especially
    close with my husband and my husband is traumatized.
    I don't know what I'll do if something happens to
    him....
    
    I'm so frustrated.  I really thought we'd find him.
    I didn't think he'd just takeoff.  We've moved around
    with him half a dozen times and he's always adjusted.
    
    Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

    To all you Feliners, Donna was my neighbor in Grafton, so I know Evan
    personally.  He's a great cat, very friendly and a real survivor.  He
    is wearing a collar and tags with Donna's new phone number in
    Princeton.  Hopefully someone will find him and have the sense to call.
    
    I will be watching for Evan's return to Grafton.  I have a feeling that
    if he makes it back he won't be leaving, since he's used to it there
    and knows both me and my cats.  Evan always mooched food from my deck
    and hung out with my cats.
    
    Praying for Evan's safe return!  I'm sure he will suck up to many
    people on his journey, as he is that type of cat.  Let's hope he
    chooses the kind, compassionate ones who will contact Donna with his
    whereabouts.

    Hang in there, Donna.  There are many cats who have returned home after
    much longer than a week.  Please let us know how things are going, and
    our thoughts are with you folks and Evan.
    

    p.s.  Is there any place around your brother's where he could have
    accidentally gotten shut in, like a garage, shed, basement?
    

What does this cat look like?  This way those of us who live in between
the grafton/northboro/princeton area can keep an eye out for Evan!

    The Humane Society in Santa Clara, CA recommends combing the area
    in a 10 mile radius around your house.  Evan may be trying to find
    his way home to either your first home or your new home so you may
    want to check those areas too.  You'd be amazed at how far an animal
    can travel in such a short time.  When my sister's dog was missing
    for two weeks she was picked up a few miles outside of the area we 
    were seaching in a section we hadn't expanded to yet.  It was between
    5 and 10 miles from her home.
    
    Good luck in your search.  I hope Evan is home very soon.

    Best wishes for Evan's safe return.   I would continue to comb
    the area on a nightly basis...I would also like to suggest putting
    an Ad in all the local papers (Grafton, Princeton, Northboro) stating
    lost cat.  Also stay in contact with local shelters...could you give
    them a picture of Evan just in case he was to show up!

    Evan is an all black, longhair cat with big double paws.  His eyes are
    gold (I think) and his coat is soft and fine.  He's talkative as well.
    
    (Sorry, Donna, for answering a question directed to you but I figured
    since I was in here reading I'd take the initiatve!)
    

    Evan's a very handsome cat.  He's chocolately-black, large 
    boned, big eyes, long fur.  He's wearing a light blue color.  
    He also has very distinct 'double-paws' (I love his toes, 
    he's got so many).
    
    He's very bold and friendly.  He's not afraid of people.  
    Maybe that's why noone realizes he's stray.
    
    I used to kid with Roberta that if anything happened to Evan
    they'd have to bury Paul (my husband) with him.  There so
    close.  I'd kid Paul by saying if Evan was human he'd be
    Paul and if Paul was a cat he'd be Evan.  There so much alike.
    I'm an animal lover and our animal companions have always
    been my hobby/priviledge but Evan took to Paul immediately
    when we got him as a baby.  He soon became Paul's cat.  
    They share(d) a very special bond that is so precious and
    rare.  My heart is breaking.  I've lost pets to terminal
    illness which is devastating enough but to loose him to 
    something that could have been prevented is going to eat
    at me for a long time.  
    
    We lost Adam 6 years.  Adam was Evan's litter mate and 
    "my cat".  He was lost for a week and returned late one
    night (I think he had been trapped in someone's garage
    or something but I'll never know for sure).  The next
    day my sister let him out without my consent.  Later that 
    night he got hit by a car.  I'll never forget that night.  
    It still feels like yesterday.  We kept Evan in for awhile
    but gave in to his demands.  Now I'm afraid he'll meet
    the same fate...

    I thank God for returning him to us.  My husband is so happy
    too.

    is Michoy.  Michoy was last seen on Saturday, May 30th at

    Feliners I'm hoping that posting this note will lead to a happy 
    ending for Micheal and Michoy.  Micheal has just left to go home and 
    comb through the woods to see if he can find Michoy.  In talking
    with Micheal he describes Michoy as faithfully attached to his Mom, 
    mainly and indoor cat and is only brought outside on a cat leash, 
    is clawed and will scratch if prompted, and tends to ignore/avoid 
    strangers.

    Have you shared some things to do with your friend...such as
    call police/shelters, post pictures in neighborhood, talk
    to neighbors, look in enclosed areas such as sheds/barns,
    and put an ad in the paper.  I also feel providing your
    local shelters with a picture of the cat would be very helpful too!
    
    Tell your friend his kitty is in our prayers for a save

    Thank you for all the pointers.  I gave your note to Michael and he's
    very thankful.  Where Michoy is leary of strangers and doesn't go out
    on his own, I told him to check his basement and attic carefully.  When
    my P.I. Felix was lost, we heard thumping around our bedroom 
    ceiling, oh no rats, no rats just that my P.I. found his way into the
    attic and then proceeded to find the one hole in the attic floor and
    got in between the floor and the ceiling.  We had a tough time getting 
    him back out.  Personally I think he was holding out for the goodies
    that we used to bribe out.

    Michoy was found under a neighbors porch.  It looks as though he
    was hit by a car and was injured pretty badly, he died last night.
    
    I'm looking forward to going home to spend time with my fur faced 
    children.  It's awful things like this that remind us just how 
    much our kitties become and integral and inseparable part of our lives.

    	Found on spitbrook rd. Nashua in office park pkg lot in front
    of Sheraton. Small looks fixed male a few months old. Could
    be part siamese or himalayan, I don't know much about breeds.
    Has blue eyes, chocolate colored long haired, with very distinct
    white and black markings. Unfortuneatly he barley survived the night
    with our 2 cats and dog and my roommate dropped him off at the 
    	Nashua animal shelter today. He looks like quite an expensive
    	cat. So if you know anyone who lost a cat tell them to 
    	contact Nashua Humane society. The cat was definitely well
    	taken care of and followed us to the truck.

    Thanks for kind thoughts. So far Dorking is still AWOL - gone since
    sometime during the night Sunday. He usedta sleep outside on the
    porch. We're now kicking ourselves for not bothering to reattach his
    catcollar  - we just figured he'd been not straying lately and were
    lulled into a false sense of complacency. Now, as I walk, run or ride
    around Magnolia point looking under hedgerows and bushes for a scared,
    weak cat(corpse), I see other cats, strolling in and out of their
    houses, up and down cat paths and in and out of sheds, and I get sad.
    I feel like going up to them and wringing the truth out of them. They
    must know what happened but they're not talking. Why, oh why is life so

    MISSING - Female- white- medium-length fur- declawed- green-eyed- 
    adult cat.  Missing since 9/10 in Manchester NH.  Near CMC Hospital.  
    Actually she lives/lived on Dubuque Street.  I have driven all around
    the area but didn't find her.  She belongs to my daughter.  I told her
    to put ads in the stores, call the vets, post notices on telephone 
    poles, go door-to-door, etc.  Whether she has or not, I'm not sure.
    
    Star is an adult female kitty that is very timid.  If you find her I

    have answering machines at both numbers.  
    
    I feel terrible about Star being missing.  We found her in the wild 
    when she was a tiny little kitten and she has been an inside kitty

    Male cat lost in the Edgell Road/Walcott Street vacinity on the
    Hudson/Stowe border.  He's an indoor/outdoor cat that recently moved
    from Franklin (1 month ago), and he's been missing since Thursday,
    October 29.
    
    He is an all black cat with some white hairs, short-haired, neutered male
    named Mickey.  He weighs approx. 5-7 lbs. and is 2 years old.  His eyes
    are a unique very golden yellow.  He lost his flea collar a few days 
    prior, so he has no collar.

    ps,  we came home once from a trip only to find our back door open.  As
    we pulled in we saw a couple of cats scatter!! We gto them all in with
    no problem but couldn't find poor Tubba.  We called for hours and drove
    thru the park several times.  Finally around bedtime Jimmy made one
    last call  and he heard this pitiful little cry (Tubba has the most
    pitiful baby cry for a two-tonner you ever heard!).  Turns out, the cat
    was hiding in the wheel well of Jimmy's car scared stiff!!!  All was
    well in the end other than a few dirty spots!

    Lost cat:

    Missing since 10/26/92 near the Westford, MA /Groton, MA border. 1 1/2
    year old neutered male.  Looks exactly like a Maine Coon cat, though he
    is probably a mutt.  Long grey/black/tan fur.  Very friendly. Weighs
    about 12 pounds.  Normally an outdoor cat who is home every day for
    meals (lots of food!).  No collar.

    I'm looking for a little advice.  A stray tiger I've been feeding
    bolted from my back hall 4 days ago.  He was due to go to the vet that
    day for neutering/shots.  I had grabbed him a couple of times for
    fighting with a neighborhood tom, so I kind of figured mating season
    was upon us.  He has been hanging around my house for several months,
    but I really only just decided to keep him. So, assuming he's parked in
    someone's yard (I've searched the immediate neighborhood, but can't
    find him), how long will it take for him to come home?  Until the end
    of the season?  How long is that?

    If he's been showing up more or less regularly to eat, then I suspect he 
    will show up again within the next few days.  He may be
    wary of the tom, so you might find him lurking about checking to see if
    the coast is clear.  I'd also keep looking for him, however.
    

    My own reply to .92 : Brutus came home at 11:00 PM last night! He was
    gone for 3 weeks.  He's much too skinny, very dirty, has several new
    scars from fighting, but otherwise OK.  He has an appointment for a
    check up AND NEUTERING!  Must be an early Valentine's Day gift : )

    I once had a cat come home after 5 weeks! We had just moved, and he
    scooted out the door on the second day, and was gone! We searched
    everywhere! He came back skinny, and with tapeworm, but none the worse
    for the wear.
    
    We had him tested for FELV and FIV again just in case though, because we
    had another cat in the house, and didn't want to take a chance of him
    infecting her with any nasties. He was still negative though! ;-)

    He's going in on Saturday for a check-up and tests, and then I'll make
    the neutering appointment.  He's seemed quite happy to be home. Even my
    big cat SPike was happy to see him, and he HATES all other cats. One of
    the dogs was all over him, licking him with tail wagging.  I guess he
    was missed.  He wasn't really "my" cat (yeah, sure) yet, since he was
    still technically a stray and he occassionally came in the house for a
    quick check, but I guess he's here to stay now.  I was so thrilled to
    see him last night that I had trouble sleeping...yawn...

    Toastie, is a beautiful tan/orange cat with white chest and paws. 
    What makes her so unique is on her face she has one white line coming
    straight down her forehead spliting into two from her nose to her
    cheeks like a peace sign. She has beautiful gold eyes. She also has
    a tag with our address and phone number. We live in E. Hampstead
    (Woodland pound area). Our house is in a wooded area. I adoubted her
    and my other two from my current roommates that insist on laws of 
    nature that is cats she come and go as they please. Although whenever
    I'm home all three will come in at nights, my roommates don't hesitate
    to let them out as they please. 
    Toastie was let out last Wednesday night (Aug. 25th) she has not
    returned. She is a very timid cat and was constantly hurrassed by one
    on my male cats.  What horrifies me the most is that the neighbors say
    they have seen Cayoties or lookalikes in the woods. 
    I have searched (with help of some friends) through the woods within
    a few mile radius. I am not being successful with my roommates as to
    not let the other two out at nights. Unfortunately I cannot be home 
    everynight and am away most weekends don't know what to do. 
    If you live in the area and have seen Toastie, I will be more than
    grateful for any info.

    Any luck in finding Toastie yet???   I know exactly what you must
    feel like because we went through the same thing with Barkley
    not to long ago.   I was a complete zombie...as you must remember!!
    
    One suggestion I have is to take a photograph of toastie and make
    a poster and then make 100 copies.  A photograph really helps
    identify the cat.  We started the first night by putting posters
    in our neighborhood...and every night we would go a little further
    and put posters for about a 3 mile radius.  I then put posters
    in all vets offices, shelters, local stores and grocery stores.
    Barkley came home by himself...but what really surprised me
    was when we drove around to take all the posters down...so MANY
    people questioned me if we had found him and told me they
    were keeping an eye out for him.  We got cheered when we told
    them Barkley was home.  It just made me feel so good that so
    many people really do care and was looking for him!!  An
    ad in the paper helps too...I got about 8 calls saying they
    spotted a black cat..but none of them were Barkley!!
    
    Let's just hope Toastie got sick of being pushed around and
    decided to take a stroll...but will return when she gets hungry.
    I really believe Barkley left because he was trying to give
    me a warning that he has just about had it with the number
    of cats I have added to my household.  I believe I have reached
    Barkley's max for brothers and sisters....and I have taken
    Barkley's warning to heart!!  I know I'm overwhelmed...so I
    can just imagine how Barkley must feel being top cat and 
    having to keep everyone in line!!!

    Sandy,  Thanks for the good thoughts. I'm not myself nowa days. She has 
    not returned. Like I said we live in secluded area, not much traffic.
    It is residential and only about two houses per block. behind our house
    is acres and acres of woods. Our neighbors say they have spotted Cayote
    like animals in the woods early mornings. 
    Toastie did not get a lot of care and love until I adopted her about a
    month ago. She was very shy and timid, parlty becuase of Jasper the
    part siamese male the lived at the house prior to Toasties arrival. 
    I cannot be at the house all the time, I spend most nights at my
    girlfriends and am training in the mountains all weekends.  I do go 
    home for a few hours every night and spend some quality time with
    Kramer & Jasper. My roommates (previouse owners of all three) take 
    care of the cats as long as I provide the food. But every time I come
    home the cats are out.  If anything has happened to Toastie, I hope 
    it was quick and painless. I feel so helpless, I have lost too many
    that were dear to me in the past few years. both human and pets. 
    I can't begin to tell you about the constant pain...
    I had only one picture of Toastie, I have made copies and posted them 
    in the local super market, (which is a few miles away) and the post
    office. I however don't have much hope at the moment.  I feer for 
    what might happen to Jasper and Kramer, they are always together but 
    whenever I am not home the roommates put them out at nights.

	Hi,

	I own a 4 year old male fixed gold tiger cat named "Buster".
	I let him out Saturday morning, September 11th, and he has not come
	home yet.  He has disappeared before, but not more than 3 days.
		
	I checked with my neighbor - "Buster" used to visit them every 
	morning, and the owner of the house said he hasn't seen him in over
	a week either, which makes me think more that he is gone for good.

	We have a lot of woods in my area ... I'm afraid maybe a wild animal
	might of got him or maybe he got shot.  I hear gun shots go off
	from people hunting deer and anything else.

	I called a couple Veterinarians (Gardner and Fitchburg), and neither
	one of them had someone bring in a stray or lost cat

	I am planning on calling the Westminster Police Dept. and the Highway
	Patrol in case he got picked up somewhere.  Does anyone have any
	other ideas on what I could do or who I can call ?

	I also have a picture of him in the Westminster Village Star (a town 
	grocery store) with my name and number incase anyone sees him.  I have
	drove up and down the streets calling him ... haven't seen anything.

	Any advice / ideas would be appreciated.  My 3 year old female at
	home, "Precious", misses her brother.

    Another suggestion is to ask all your neighbors to check their
    garages, sheds, and basements.   Also make a "lost" poster up with a 
    picture of the cat, make millions of copies,  and start posting them on 
    telephone poles, local stores,vets offices, shelters, etc.      You 
    could also place an ad in your local paper.
    
    I wish you luck and know exactly what you are going through.   My cat
    Barkley did not come home for 17 out of 20 days....and I was a total
    basketcase.   This was a cat that spent about 1 hour outside each day..
    and normally never left the yard.   He did stroll home on his own and
    hasn't strolled far since that time.

    One suggestion, don't use utility poles to post things on the utility
    companies get a bit outa shape over it.  The staples make it impossible
    for the hooks on the repair men's boots to get a good grip when they
    climb the poll.  Trees are almost as good.
    
    Best of luck in finding your cat.  One small ray of hope, this is the
    time of year that cats do wander away, even cats who don't usually do
    that.  I do hope he comes back and soon, there's nothing so upsetting
    as losing your kitty.
     

    Where in Westminster do you live?   I live on S. Ashburnham road, and
    if you live anywhere near there, I will definitely keep my eyes out for

    My Mother in law's kitty is missing.  She was outside semi supervised
    Sunday afternoon and disappeared.  Personally, I think some well
    intentioned soul or some kid thought she was a stray and took her in.
    
    Abby is a solid orange tiger kitty, declawed in the front and spayed.
    She is somewat timid of people, but if you try real hard she would
    eventually come to you.  (she was an abused kitten).  Abby is from
    the High Street area of WEstboro.
    
    My mother in law is totally devestated as well as her other cat, 
    who is moping and pacing.

    Well all our efforts worked!  Abby came home last nite!  I found her
    on the porch when I got home from work (was it fate?).
    
    My MIL was out working so I let ABby in, and fed her.  She was quite
    hungry and thirsty (and she looked dehydrated too) but she was dry
    and clean.
    
    We think she was in someone's house, and not interested in eating until
    she got home.  either the people saw our signs or she escaped.  Either 
    way we are very happy!

    She may have been shut up in someone's shed or garage. One of our cats
    went missing for a couple of days and we found later that she'd been
    stuck in a garage down the road. As soon as the garage door opened, she
    shot out and turned up very hungry and thirsty, but otherwise fine.

    Hmmmmm..that's what I thought about Barkley last summer...but when
    he stayed home for 3 days and then disappeared again...I knew that
    he did it intentionally...and nobody held him for ransom!!
    
    I think the cats are TRULY enjoying this cool weather oppose to the
    hot summers.  Every night I have a very hard time trying to get 
    Angus, Poco and Barkely to come in...where normally they wait at 
    the door step for me!!

    I have found the same thing here in Atlanta.. When the weather was
    real warm I could count on Chief coming home whenever I called him.
    Now it has become quite  a game to get him in. Also, when it first
    got cooler he would do the allnighter..  I think leaf chasing and
    bug chasing has become a new hobby for him. I hope when the cold
    weather here comes he will be easier since I am going away for
    the holidays..  Maybe he will even want to stay inside... Nah...

    My most favorite kitty in the world, Diesel has been gone since 
    last Saturday.  He's always been an outdoor cat by nature but 
    he had abcess surgery on his face on about Dec. 10th.  I had 
    removed the drain tube and was finishing up the Amoxicillin
    when my neighbor/cat-sitter let him out by mistake.  His 
    rabies vaccination expired the day before he came home with
    the abcess so he should be quarantined and I'm terribly 
    worried.  He is the most lovable, purring kitty on the face
    of the earth and I'll be heartbroken if I don't find him. 
    
    He's a large (not fat, just big) gray neutered male, approximately
    2 years old with a tiny white patch under his chin.  He has 
    beautiful green eyes and one side of his face is shaved.
    He should still be on Amoxicillin so I really need to find him. 
    He's not wearing a collar as he hates it and he was supposed to 
    be confined to the indoors.
    
    If you know anyone that lives in this area or if you should see him, 
    please, please contact me anytime day or night.  My home phone is 
    537-0806 and if I can't be reached over the holidays, you can 
    leave a message at 369-1042 (parents) or 486-2073 (work voice-mail).
    He is extremely friendly and loves the sound of Pounce treats 
    being shaken.  He purrs loudly and constanly and he does have 
    asthma so he wheezes a bit at times and his nose drips when he's
    been outside too long. 
    
    It's just not going to be Christmas unless I find him.

    For anyone in the Milford/Wilton, NH area, "Bombay", a neutered
    male orange tabby, went out after dinner as usual one evening
    in the middle of last week, and I haven't seen him since.  He's
    taken off for a day or two in the past, but never this long.
    
    He has no collar (much to my regret now) and no obvious distinguishing
    markings or scars, etc., he weighs in at about 12 lbs., and he's about
    8 years old.
    
    Home is at 342 Burton Higheay, right at the intersection of Burton
    and Isaac Frye Highways in Wilton.  I'm putting out flyers with a
    $100 reward for information leading to his recovery, and to be fair
    I'll make the same offer here.
    
    If you think you know the whereabouts of this cat, please send mail

    I guess this is a long shot but one never knows....My sister-in-law
    lost her cat. He is not yet full-grown, we think he is about 5 months
    old. Wears no tags. He is beautiful...black with white markings, very
    handsome little guy. Main color is black, his paws are white, half way
    up, white chest, white markings in the face...white whiskers and 
    white hair in the ears...This is an (un)lucky cat...my SIL found him
    in the trash at a supermarket when he was about 8 or 9 weeks old...
    He has been lost for about a month now...We hope somebody took him in...
    the neighborhood was checked but no luck...Please if you have seen
    him, send me mail or if you maybe even know that he found a good home,
    let me know, my inlaws have alot of cats already and they would leave
    him at a good home, they just want to know if he is safe...

    This is getting spooky...besides the cat I mentioned in .126, another
    cat from the same household is missing...dont have any details on
    his looks was just wondering if anybody out there has heard if a
    catnapper is in the Malden area? Buttons, missing cat #2 is also
    a young male and missing since about 2 days now...both cats were
    outdoor cats but ALWAYS returned home come evening...

    Lost - A friend has relocated up here from Texas and her kitty
    has gotten lost.  Please help us to find her.  She is a gray and
    white short hair female with a bob'd tail.  She is lost in 
    Hudson, MA.  Last seen at 11 Dorman Street Tuesday.  If you find

    As a suggestion, I have had good luck in my town by calling the Animal
    Control Officer.  She is real great keeping an eye out for lost
    animals.  
    
    In a similar situation last year about this time.  We had friends
    staying in our campertrailer and one of theirs escaped into the woods
    behind the house.  Unfortunately moving day came and went, without
    their beautiful tabby (he was an indoor/outdoor type anyway).  About
    five days later I happen to be looking outside from a window and saw
    their cat walking through the backyard, just like he owned it!  I
    managed to entice him to me with food and catnip, and put him back into
    the camper with food and water until I could locate my friends.
    
    Hoping you too have the same amount of success, it really is
    heartbreaking.  Hope your town's animal officer is as kind as ours is!

    	I don't know how many folks in here are from Gardner
    	(other than Sue) but figured I'd post this anyway.
    
    	My best friend's cat pushed her way out of a screen window
    	in the cellar and as of last night, she hasn't come back.
    
    	Sasha is a somewhat timid cat.  Up to three years ago when
    	Kim adopted her, she was an indoor/outdoor cat so chances
    	are she can fend for herself pretty well.  For the last
    	three years she's been strictly indoors.  I've told Kim
    	to call any of the local shelters and to put posters up
    	around the neighborhood and at the shopping centers.
    
    	Sasha is a light brown/black/white kitty.  Tabby markings
    	with white paws, chest and belly.  Golden colored eyes and
    	a pouffy tail.  She's a very pretty cat.
    
    	Kim lives on Jonathan St. in Gardner MA.  I'm really hoping
    	she comes home.  Kim's 4 year old daughter is very upset that
    	she's escaped.  =(

    I can't find my cat. He has been missing since 9/5/95 from
    the Gilson Rd area (Hollis line) in Nashua NH.  I have called
    all the local vets and the humane society and have searched the
    entire area numerous times.  He is very much missed by my husband
    and I and any information would be greatly appreciated.  Here
    is his description.
    
    Male (neutered), fluffy black and white cat. Black on top with 
    a white belly and bib. Four white paws.  He is 4 years old and
    is wearing a purple flea collar.

    I'm really upset.  Torbie got out today and there's been no sign
    of her since I lost track of her this morning as she ran onto a 
    neighbor's patio.
    
    I was taking her and the rest of the fosters to the vet for their
    annual check up when her carrier door popped open and she took off
    running.  I almost had her once but missed her by just a few inches.
    This was at 9:00am.  It's now 9:23pm and I still haven't seen her at
    all.  
    
    I don't know if she's still in the apartment complex or if she managed
    to find her way off the complex.  It's surrounded on 3 sides by fencing
    and on the fourth by a very busy road (thank the lord I haven't found
    her on the road).  There's a ton of plants and bushes for her to hide
    under.  There's a screen off one of the building vents and I'm afraid
    she may be in there.  Actually, I'm hoping that's where she is because
    that at least means she's still in the area.
    
    Unfortunately, she used to be wild and because of that she's very shy.
    I sometimes have trouble approaching her in the house so getting her
    to respond to me outside is a real challenge.  I've left a bowl of
    food and water at the base of my staircase along with one of my
    t-shirts (hoping she'll recognize the scent.  I've also put signs up
    all over the complex and told most of my neighbors that she probably
    won't let them approach her so they should just let me know if they 
    see her.  Unfortunately, I only have one picture of her and it was
    from last year when she was still a scraggly little kitten.  She's
    so much more beautiful now.  
                             
    I thought I saw her once but it was a neighbor's cat.  Took me forever
    to get close enough to her tell so by the behavior I really thought it
    might be her.
    
    Rats!  What am I going to do about this cat.  I'm worried sick that
    I'll never see her again.

    Hang in there Jan.  Little Bit has wound up outside 2 or 3 times over
    the years, and has shown up within a day, waiting at my back door,
    after my nerves were shot and I'd canvassed the whole neighborhood. 
    Try the dusk or dawn patrol with an open can of tuna, maybe?
    

    Well, it's been 48+ hours and I've not seen a trace of her since
    I lost her Saturday morning.  I've walked the complex almost hourly
    since that time calling her.  I took a chicken leg and some smelly
    seafood cat food out and attempted to attract her with no success.
    There are signs out around the complex and a picture (although old)
    of her on the sign at my staircase.  The food I put out at the bottom
    of the staircase has finally disappeared (it sat there for 2 days first)
    but I don't know if she ate it or if the other neighborhood cats ate it.
    They all pretty much left it alone until I added some canned food last
    night.  I also have a t-shirt of mine placed next to the food.
    
    Tonight I'll go by the humane society and see if anyone has picked her
    up and brought her in.  I'll probably post signs around the local 
    neighborhoods.  There's a notice on rec.pets.cats too.  As soon as I
    have a few minutes out of my training, I'll call the Mercury News and
    place an ad.
    
    I'm feeling major guilt over this even though I know there's not really
    anything I could have done to prevent it.  I should have rechecked the
    carrier door but my friend said she did and it seemed fine and I trusted
    her judgement.
    
    My neighbor has attempted to alleviate the many guilt trips I'm taking
    myself on but I'm going there just the same.
    
    I can only hope that Torbie's feral instincts will kick in and she'll be
    able to take care of herself.
    
    Jo reminded me that she has been living in our current apartment for
    a year now and that her homing instincts should help her return there.
    I hope she's right.

  What about an ad in the Potpourri?  I can't remember for sure, but I think 
they run lost pets ads free (or at least a reduced rate).  Wish I'd thought 
of this sooner today because our issue comes out tomorrow.  We all hope you
find her.  She's so much like our verrry shy stray Tatoo so we kind of know 
what you are going through.

    Trip #1 to the Humane Society produced no Torbie cat.  Thank
    the kitty goddess she was not in the DOA listing.  I checked
    every room with cats in it and she wasn't there.  They  have
    tons of kittens and smaller cats right now so if anyone is
    looking for a cat send 'em over.
    
    There was one tiny little black kitten that just went nuts when
    we walked into his room.  He was climbing the cage door and 
    screaming "get me out of here" at the top of his lungs.  It 
    broke my heart to leave him there.  Going over there is the
    hardest thing I've ever had to do and walking away without all
    the cats with me rips through every fiber of my being.  I don't
    know how people can work there day-after-day knowing that not all
    of the animals are going to find homes and the ones that don't
    will have to be put to sleep.
    
    Anyway, I've finally managed to figure out how to get to the 
    neighborhood behind mine and will be putting flyers up there as
    soon as I can get them printed up.  The Humane Society gave me
    this really nice flyer template to use.  I also need to check out
    the vet offices in the area.
    
    It's not likely that Torbie will just walk into someone's apartment
    or be easily seduced into coming to a stranger.  Her formerly feral
    nature will probably keep her away from most people.  She spent much
    of her time under my bed and when she did come out she was almost 
    always under something like the coffee table or my chair.  The only
    open spaces she liked were one corner of the loveseat and on an end
    table by the window.
    
    This is so sad.  On Saturday morning before I lost her I woke up  
    at about 6:50am because something was bugging my feet.  When I managed 
    to get one eye open I checked the foot of the bed and found Torbie
    laying there playing with my feet.  I'd give anything to have that
    experience again.

    Oh, I forgot to mention that this one poor cat in my apartment 
    complex is getting tons of attention lately.  I've had several
    calls from people trying to find my cat but who keep finding
    Dum-Dum.  She really resembles Torbie except for the lack of
    tabby markings.  I bet she wishes I'd find her too.

    It's been almost a week and I still haven't seen a trace of Torbie.  
    It would be so grand if I could just get a glimpse of her and know
    that she's still in the area.
    
    In the search I've discovered a few things... 
    
    1) There's a new animal shelter in Santa Clara County.  It seems
       that Campbell, Los Gatos, Cupertino and Monte Sereno have broken 
       off from the Santa Clara Valley group and started their own 
       shelter.  It's located in Campbell on Gilman Ave. (near the par 
       course).  I didn't realize they were there (even though it's in
       the brochure I got) so didn't make it over there till day 4.  I
       panicked.  What if she'd alredy been there 3 days and had been put
       down.  They assured me they hadn't done any euthanizations in quite
       a while.  They try to hang onto the animals as long as they possibly
       can.
    
    2) People are really strange and, you'll be amazed at what some of 
       your friends will say about missing pets.
    
    I plan to enter the list of San Francisco Bay Area shelters in here
    as soon as I have it and me in the same location.  Seems I left it
    on the dining room table this morning.
    
    Someone in my complex keeps taking my signs down.  I had one sign with
    a real picture posted on my staircase.  Someone tore the picture off,
    rolled up the sign and stuck it into the staircase railing.  The two
    pictures I put on the mailboxes have been removed.  I'm wondering if
    the postal service frowns on that kind of thing and has removed them.
    If that's the case, there are now 3 complexes without signs that I'll
    repost in.  The mailboxes seemed like a good place since they're a 
    place everyone eventually goes.
    
    Certain of my friends think that perhaps she just wanted to be outside
    and I should just deal with that and get on with it.  Someone mentioned
    she probably left because I had so many other cats.  It's not like she
    found her way out of the house on purpose.  She was in a cat carrier
    when the door popped open.  She saw an opportunity to be out of the 
    carrier and took it.  I doubt seriously there was much thought to how
    many cats I had or whether or not she preferred outdoor living to
    indoor living put into her actions.  She didn't like the carrier, she
    got out of it.  That simple.
    
    While putting signs up on light posts, etc. some man decided that
    someone had probably already eaten her by now.  He went on and on with
    this theme asking me if she would be good eating and was there much
    meat on her.  I remarked at how pleasant it was to talk to him about
    as sarcastically as I could and went on to the next pole.  I imagine he
    ripped the sign down after I left.
    
    This whole thing is so frustrating I could just scream.

    We have new management lately so it's really hard to tell if they
    are the ones taking them down.  The young law student that's there
    a couple of days a week took a flyer for himself so I don't think
    he's doing it.  The other strange guy might be but he seems more
    content to sit in the office with his headphones on rather than do
    that.  There are posters up on the fences and walls of the complex
    that have remained so I'm leaning towards the postal folks removing
    them.  I still haven't figured out why someone would steal the 
    picture and leave the poster.  That must have been the work of kids.

    I made about 200 copies and have been putting them in mailboxes around
    the neighborhoods closest to the perimeter of my complex.  The rest

    thought about doing the door-to-door thing in the complex...good idea.

    Jan...is it possible to set a Hav-a-heart trap with smelly
    tuna???   Because Torbie is a former feral...I do believe
    he is still around your neighborhood and is just to scared
    to come out.     Try setting the trap for a few hours every
    night.  I doubt very much if Torbie would walk into anyones 
    house..or go to anyone outside.

    I've been considering this.  I need to find a place where I
    can rent the trap for a reasonable amount for several days.
    My schedule is so weird that I'm not sure I'd be able to get 
    the best use of it in a matter of a day or two.
    
    But, I'm afraid I'm going to end up catching every cat in the 
    neighborhood before I get close to the one I'm working on.
    I just wish I could really be sure she was still around.  10 
    days later there's not a trace of her.  I think she's still 
    here somewhere but I can't be sure where.  I don't know if she 
    made it to the creekbed or the complex or to the houses behind
    us.  She could even be hiding on a patio somewhere just not making 
    a sound.  It's too weird.  And, I don't have a clue which would be 
    the best spot to set a trap either. 
    
    In the meantime, yesterday's search found me back at the old
    apartment complex where I found the cat the new manager thought
    was my missing Torbie.  She's the cutest little mostly-black
    tortie with the tiniest squeak of a meow.  Apparently she's
    a stray.  I'm still trying to figure out what to do about her.
    If I leave her there the manager may end up trapping her himself
    and taking her to the Humane Society.  He mentioned they still had
    bunches of stray cats and he was considering trapping them.  If I 
    take her, I really don't have a place to put her and may end up 
    having to take her there myself.  I don't want to leave her out in 
    the creekbed/old complex to fend for herself but I have more cat 
    responsibility than I can really deal with at this point.  What to do, 
    what to do. 
     
    She's currently at a point where she's wary but friendly.  She came
    to see me when I spoke to her, wound around my legs, purred and 
    generally enjoyed being petted but, she didn't like it if I tried to
    pick her up.  If I scruffed her and picked her up she made a small 
    attempt to bite but basically went slack, purred and made bread in
    the air.  I particularly loved how she left her tongue hanging out
    while she was picked up.  She'd make someone a loving pet.
    
    What's that mantra...The inn is full, the inn is full. 
    
    Ah, the dangers of having a lost pet.  In your search you find so many
    others that could use a helping hand and a home.  
    
    I just keep praying to the kittie gods that Torbie will return to me
    healthy, happy and a bit wiser about the values of a home from having 
    been back out in the world of the feral cat.

    About 1 or 2 months ago I've noticed a young grey long-haired cat
    browsing around my house. It's completely gray with white marks under
    chin and on the paws. I suspect that it is male but I am not sure.
    He is very friendly and because I started to feed him he comes every
    morning and evening for food. I believe he must be lost because he
    is very friendly. 
    
    I live in Leominster (Wildwood Cond.) on Willard Street. Is anybody
    there who recently lost a cat? I wish I could find the owner. 
    
    I am going to call local vets and shelters as well to find out if

    	Monty (short for Monterey) has a white chin and belly, the tiger
        stripes end on his tail with a wide black stripe.  He's very
        friendly once he gets to know you although while outside??? I 
        couldn't say for sure.
        He usually takes off late in the spring for about 1 week, to take 
        off 5 or 6 winter pounds.  BUT it's been 17 days now.
    
    	We've been stopping in at the Humane Soc., no luck, called the 
        Public Works Dept. that scoops up the unfortunate accident victims,
        (luckily...no luck there either!) And we've been to the Library to
        scour over the Lost & Found ads., nothing.

    Found off 62 in Berlin and based on his/her condition I would think
    this guy has not eaten in a while.

    (I think it's a male) teeth are clean and tarter free, I thought that
    would be one hint.  He is so thin, I think he has been on the road for
    a while.  He has eaten 2 full bowls of dry cat food in the last 12
    hours.

    If you do keep him, I'm sure you know to have him vet checked for
    FIV/FELK,  worms, etc.  If he is FELK/FIV+ positive you'd have to keep
    him isolated  from your cat since it is contagious. He sounds gorgeous.

    I know I have him in a crate right now and my first thought was
    FIV/FELK.  I have a feeling my other cat will not accept him and I will
    be looking for a home for him.  Any suggestions on trying to figure out
    how old he is.  I'm not sure if he is a kitten/under a year old or just
    small and half starved.

    Actually it is very hard to "age" a stray cat and my vet normally
    will look at the teeth appearance and bone structure and provide 
    an estimate such as:     Well..he's between the ages of 4-8.
    It's hard because you do not know how long he was a stray and if
    he looks in bad shape because of the lack of food etc.
    
    If you do have local shelters around or possibly an Animal Control
    officer you might want to call them too because most people call them 
    when they lost a kitty.

    Good luck with your new kitty :-)  How lucky he is that he
    found you, or vice versa.  It usually takes awhile to introduce a new
    kitty to an existing one, but the folks here have lots of good howto

    The control officer has been notified as well. Someone has got to be
    missing him.  He is just too nice to not have been owned by a family 
    or someone.  He is skin and bones so he has had to of been on the run 
    for a month or better from the looks of him.
    
    I know it takes time to introduce a new cat into a home.  I don't see
    them being buddies for a looooong time at this point.

    Mark...can you tell if it's a male or female...and has it been fixed.
    Many times kitties who are not fixed...tend to roam a bit too far and
    can't make it home!
    
    It's sometimes hard to believe that someone would DUMP a Siamese cat...
    but after working at the shelter for years and seeing many purebreds that
    are homeless...there is a very good chance that he was indeed just
    dumped!! (so sad...)
    
    Good luck...hopefully he had a wonderful home...you can find that
    home..and the people are thrilled to get him back!!!  My luck in
    finding the original home for a stray cat is about 1 out of 40!!!

    Check with your local newspaper.  Some newspapers will run "Found Cat" 
    ads for free.  Maybe someone will spot the ad and contact you.

    But be sure they can identify the cat etc. so they aren't the toads

    	I'd like to say it surprises me too but the last time I
    	went up to talk to Joanne in Manchester, she had a red
    	tabby Persian and a flame Lynx point Siamese out front
    	in the adoption cages.  The Persian looked so sad.  =(
    

    My other cat is a female, this one seems to look different at least it
    looks smaller.  If it is a male it doesn't have all it's equipment.
    
    It's a win win situation for the cat.  If I can't find it's home I will
    keep it and if that doesn't work I will make sure he ends up in a good
    home.  I just hope he isn't 100 years old and on his way out.  You get
    so attached to them.

    This reminds me of years ago being in a local shelter and seeing
    a beautiful chocolate colored Siamese-type mom surrounded by her six?
    seven? little kittens in one of the adoption cages.  Unbelievable...
                         

    Ah but Mark...if he is 100 years old and on his way out, just think
    how wonderful it would be if you could provide food, love, comfort
    and the feeling of peace for this kitty in his last few years.  Yes..
    it hurts losing any kitty...but somehow when you save that "special"
    one the hurt is still there, but you somehow have a feeling of comfort
    knowing what you did for them. 
    
    BUT..in reality he probably isn't that old because he might not have
    survived so long on his own.   I had heard (not sure if
    it is true) that Siamese tend to gray in their points when they are a 
    bit older.  Does anyone know if this is true???

    After closer examination I think we can call him a she.  I'm pretty
    sure it is a female.  At some point she must of had kittens, her
    nipples are pronounced.  I know in dogs this happens after a litter and
    I'm assuming the same for cats.  
    
    She is very thin and a chow hound.  
    
    Last night I looked in her ears because she seemed to be shaking her
    head a lot and it looks like they are either very dirty or she has ear
    mites.  I swabed them a little (as much as she would let me) and it is
    a brownish red stuff that I got out.  
    
    Is there anything over the counter I can give her for this?  I do not
    want to pay the full vet check up at this point as I still might find
    her owner.  At the same time I want to get this taken care of if it is
    indeed mites.  I have never had to deal with them before so I don't
    know what I'm looking for.  I did pull a tick off her ear.  
    
    Also, she doesn't stop meowing!  I have heard that siamese talk alot
    but this one, man.  If you leave the room she starts.  Sometimes, she
    leaves the room and just wails away.  
    
    Can someone tell me something about this breed?

    few that I've been lucky enough to have known have all been extremely
    intelligent, affectionate, inquisitive and vocal.  Why not call your
    vet and ask what over-the-counter product you can use in the kitty's ears?
    I'm also including some info about ear mites, also taken from the web. 
    It says to use mineral oil or baby oil.

    lilac point completed the breed. The lilac point has pinkish gray

    length. The earliest breed standards prescribe a long, wedge head and
    elongated body lines. The muscular, tubular body is supported by long
    legs and graced by a long neck and tail. The short, close, silky coat
    emphasizes this length of line. 
    
    The long Siamese head is delineated by an absolutely straight profile,
    smooth wedge, large ears that complete that wedge, and deep blue,
    almond shaped eyes set on a slant. 
    
    This ancient breed, perhaps the oldest of all our pedigreed cats, is
    able to communicate like no other. The Siamese voice is legendary, and
    they do like to talk. They are the quintessential "people" cat, for
    they love to be in your lap, on your bed, at your table... in your
    heart! 
    
    Pricing on Siamese usually depends on each individual kitten's
    bloodlines and type. Many breeders allow pickup of new kittens between
    twelve and sixteen weeks of age. At the age of sixteen weeks, kittens
    have had basic inoculations and developed the physical and social
    stability to adjust to a new environment. Four months also conforms to
    the minimum age for showing and transport by air. If a breeder offers
    you an older kitten or adult cat, don't hesitate; they can be a welcome
    addition to a home where proper behavior and good manners are needed

    essential elements for maintaining a healthy companion, and most

    If the cat is scratching its ears and you can see black grit, that's
    probably earmites. Consult your vet for appropriate ear drops. Ear
    mites stay in the ears, but can be passed from cat to cat, especially
    if they groom each other. The life cycle of an ear mite is entirely
    within the ear, so you do not have to worry about ridding your house of
    them the way you do fleas. Cats typically shake their heads when given
    the medication; unless the medication actually comes back out, that is
    OK. An additional step to take is to soak a cotton ball or pad in
    mineral oil (baby oil is fine), and clean out the outer ear (do not
    poke into the canal). That rids the upper ear of any ear mites lodged
    higher up than the canal, and makes it difficult for the ear mites to
    reestablish themselves. 
    
    Scratching and a discharge from the ears means a bacterial or fungal
    infection and the vet should be immediately consulted. Other possible
    causes of scratching include fleas, lice, eczema, allergies, or stud
    tail (in male cats).
