    I got a free double CD the other day from an unusual source.  A
    friend found it in his trash can at work and gave it to me!!!
    Of course, since he works for a record distributor, it's not *that*
    unlikely for such a thing to happen, yet I was kind of surprised
    that someone would chuck out a sealed (!!) double CD set.
    
    It's called "Attic 15th Celebration" and is from Attic Records of
    Canada.  It appears to be an industry-only promo of some sort. First,
    it is a real haphazard collection of music, ranging from easy-listening
    pop to speed metal.  Second, most of the booklet discusses how many
    gold records, Juno awards (Canadian Grammies) and dollars of sales have
    been racked up.  Third, the two CDs have no song titles printed on the
    labels (one is red, one is silver so to tell them apart).  Last, the
    booklet credits all the A&R people for the label!!! 
    
    The music is what makes this package interesting.  Some high (and
    low) lights:
    
    "Jet Boy Jet Girl"  Elton Motello
    
    A tasteless ripoff of "Ca Plane Pour Moi" that I never expected
    to see on CD.
    
    "Say That You Love Me"  ?????
    
    This is the Mac tune sung by somebody else, which was the hit version
    in Canada.  Supposedly produced by Michael Jackson (!!!???) 
    
    "Rock and Roll"  Motorhead
    
    Loud, obnoxious and loads of fun.
    
    "Keep Those 88s Straight"  Downchild
    
    An unknown (in the US) blues band that wrote "Excusez Moi, Mon Cherie"
    for the Blues Brothers.  Nice rollicking eight-to-the-bar piano
    and a great horn section.

    Also tracks by:
    
    Triumph, John Prine, Black Uhuru, George Thorogood, Jennifer Warnes,
    The Rovers, The Chieftains, Plastic Bertrand.
    
    I like about 25% of this.  Much of it is too poppy for my tastes.
    I wouldn't have bought it if I had to pay for it (well, maybe for
    $1 !!!) but for free, hey, my player has programming.   8^)  8^)  8^)     
    
    Any Canadian noters who have any history on the Attic label?

    Is there anything on the sampler by The Nylons?  It's their original
    label according to the liner notes on their Open Air (?) releases (from
    Windham Hill).

    Yes, a version of "Kiss Him Goodbye"    

    The only other group I know of with albums from Attic is Katrina
    and the Waves, who had one of their first albums on that label.
