| 1292.1 | Green CD Guide is No Mas | USWRSL::GREENHAJO |  | Fri Aug 05 1988 14:04 | 6 |
| | I can't tell you much about other CD catalogs, but I do know that
    the Green CD Guide will no longer be published. Ol Wayne sent me
    a letter and told me my remaining copies would be credited towards
    my Digital Audio subscription.

| | The Schwann catalogues (they publish one for cd only and one with
    all formats) tend toward the stodgy. It's hard to describe how a
    listings book can be such, but I imagine the editors holding the
    Frank Zappa listings with outstretched arms. Nevertheless, Schwann
    has been the most comprehensive overall for a long time. (Twenty
    years ago, they used to list the contents of an lp, great when you're
    trying to decide which Theo Bikel album to buy.)

| 1292.3 | Try CDinternational for nonclassical | PUEBLO::GABBE |  | Fri Aug 05 1988 16:54 | 15 |
| | I have been buying Schwann's for about 2yrs specificly for CDs. My
experience has been there are a lot mistakes/typoes in it. In addition, it
takes a long time for a listing to appear after it hits the stores (US).
I was going to try CDinternational (advertized in recent Digital Audio
issues), but decided against it because they do not list classical
releases. The sample copy I had did a very good job summarizing US,
England, Japan, & West Germany releases.
Currently I am playing with the sample database advertized by KW
Enterprises in Florida (also in Digital Audio). I believe with 30K cds out
there that electronic retrival is the only smart way to go. I'll report on
my success or failure later on.

| | CD INTERNATIONAL is a good publication, but it's riddled with
    errors (such as, say, listing "Freddie King" and "Freddy King"
    as separate entries, or ditto with "Joachim Kuehn" and "Joachim
    Kuhn"). It is also woefully obsolete, due to the infrequency of
    publication. Supposedly, it's to be published twice a year, with
    monthly updates in between. However, in just under a year, there's
    only been one main catalog and one update.

| 1292.5 | Gramophone + CDinternational + Schwann | SARAH::P_DAVIS | Peter Davis | Mon Aug 08 1988 14:07 | 4 |
| | Gramophone magazine publishes a quarterly listing of classical CDs
    available in England. This, coupled with CDinternational, will
    probably give you a pretty good view of the world market. You might
    still want the Schwann for domestic info.
