| | A catalog I have titled CD INTERNATIONAL has 3 listings:

"Best of Leonard Cohen" - released (or soon to be released) in the U.S.
"Leonard Cohen's Greatest Hits" (West Germany)
"Various Positions" (U.K., W. Germany, Japan)

I haven't seen CBS's BEST OF LEONARD COHEN yet. The closest thing
I have is Jennifer Warren's incredible disc, FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT,
which features all Leonard Cohen songs, and a duet on "Joan of Arc"
    with Leonard himself.

it was deep into his fiery heart
he took the dust of Joan of Arc
          and then she clearly understood
if he was fire, oh she must be wood

FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT has been often referred to as
    "Jenny sings Lenny".

Absolutely correct, Jennifer's name is "Warnes". It looked odd
when I typed it, but after staring at the tube all day, it's not
unusual for me to make mistakes like that after hours.
I've never heard this disc referred to as "Jenny Sings Lenny", although
there is an inference to that on the inside of the disc booklet.
I'd recommend it to anyone who appreciates Leonard Cohen.

| | Thanks Marty and Jerry. Rick, let us know when "The Best of Rick
    Cohen" gets released.

I think there were some comments on the Jennifer Warnes "Famous
Blue Raincoat" earlier in this file. I'll go a lookin'.

I'll keep my eyes open for "The Best of Leonard Cohen". But I'd
really like to get "Various Positions". I think I'll have my sons
bring it over from UK in the summer.

Oh, it's not *officially* referred to as "Jenny Sings Lenny".
That's just what various critics and such would refer to it as.

The sound quality of "Famous Blue Raincoat" is GREAT. I recommend
to buy U.S. Cypress label's original one (Cypress 661 111-2, pressed
by PDO) rather than Europian distribution (BMG PD90048).

| | Leonard Cohen latest album "I'm your man" was released some weeks
ago here in Norway. It contains some songs that were
previously released on Jennifer Warnes "Famous Blue Raincoat".
ex. "First we take Manhatten" (terrific!!!).
The other songs are new ones,it's a absolutely must for all
Cohen fans.Cohens previous album "Various Positions" sold
about 45.000 copies in Norway, and that says something about
his popularity here, when you know that our population is
	ca. 4 million people....

A friend of mine recently lend me a cassette with a recording
of "Famous Blue Raincoat" and I loved it, I think it is a real WORK
    OF ART.

I just can't wait to get it on CD.

But I have a question, Who is Jennifer Warnes? Where did she
come from? I never heard of her before this.

She strongly reminds me of someone but I can't point out who,
do you have any ideas who could it be?

    							Thank you

If you're familiar with either "An Officer & A Gentleman" or "Dirty
Dancing," Jennifer Warnes is the femme voice on the duets for the
title tracks for each; "Up Where We Belong," with Joe Cocker and
"The Time of My Life," with Bill Medley.

She's had a couple of solo hits - "I Know A Heartache When I See
One" and "The Right Time of The Night." Her voice on the latter
sounds an awful lot like Linda Ronstadt or possibly even Karla Bonoff.

Jennifer's greatest hits CD is available on ARISTA as a budget line
    item - $8.99. It's definitely worth it.

| | According to ROCK RECORD, her first album goes back to ---
believe it or not --- 1968. She seems to be one of those
artists who just slipped through the cracks. I first heard
her on a tape I made from a WGBH radio program featuring
selections from one of Tom Rush's Symphony Hall concerts.
She did "A Song for Bernadette", which I flipped over, and
then lead all of the other concerteers in a great choral
rendition of Stephen Foster's "Hard Times Come Again No More".

Did you notice Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar playing on "I'll
Take Berlin" on FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT. I never expected to
    hear him pop up there.

On the Smothers Brothers reunion show a month or so back Ms.
Warrens appeared. They said that she had appeared on several of
their shows back in 1968. They also said that Pat Paulsend had
    introduced her to them.
