| | I myself have done both. And to tell you the truth ya can't really
tell the difference when driving. Parked with the engine off you
can here a small difference with the adapter/CD combo being a little
clearer. I like the adapter, probably more of a novelty than anything
else. There is also a fair amount of hassle with a cig lighter
adapter for power, cassette adapter for sound, and changing the
CD's in the player while driving. Cassette's definately have the
advantage here. If your into novelties, gadgets, *toys* then go
spend $20 and get you a cassette adapter. The one from Radio Shack
seems to do the trick quite well.

| 1066.3 | Go with cassette until car cd player | SHARE::COYNER |  | Wed Jan 27 1988 07:07 | 10 |
| | You will find that unless you use the "top of the line" speakers
that you can tell very little if any difference in a quality recorded
tape or a cd. Reason is, cars are just to small and to loud to
give you the same sound as your house stereo. I also tape my cd's
to play in the car and have also tried a portable cd player. I
couldn't really tell the difference (I have a Nakamichi BX125 cassette
deck). Portable cd players are also a pain in the car, much more
so than one that is built into the dash. My opinion.

| | I can tell a very noticeable difference in my car between cassettes
and CD's. I don't have any fabulous speakers, just $125 or so Kenwoods.
When I had my in-dash cassette deck/tuner installed I had the cd
input routed over into my glovebox. Thus I can put my portable cd
player in the glovebox and run the line out cables into the cd input.
Works very well, sounds much better than cassettes, plus I have
another cd player I can use for travelling, etc.

| | I too could hear a significant difference between tapes and the
Recoton cassette adapter to my D-5. But the convenience of the
tapes is an overwhelming advantage for me.
