| | I heard the album (that dirty word) and was not impressed; it seemed
to me, on an initial hearing to be very dance-flavored, disco oriented.
But then again, most of the participating artists are not my favorites.

| | I bought it last week. Like -.1, I was not totally impressed, but it's
not all bad. The album is called "A Very Special Christmas" with the
proceeds going to Special Olympics. It's got 15 songs with a total of
51+ minutes. I'm a big U2 fan, but the U2 track wasn't recorded too
well (done during a soundcheck at a concert in Glasgow over the summer),
and you don't hear much from the Edge. My favorite track is the
Pretenders (really Chrissie Hynde) doing "Have Yourself a Merry Little
Christmas". One ear-shocking sound was Stevie Nicks doing "Silent
Night". Now I like Stevie, but her voice doesn't suit this classic.
Luckily, she gets some help in the second half of the song.
If I was a critic, I probably wouldn't get it, but since all of these
artists donated some time for a worthy cause, you're automatically
hooked, and they're just reeling you in for the purchase.

| | So it's after Christmas, and the last thing you want is another
    Christmas disc...

Well, let me recommend Peter Kater's Christmas disc...this somewhat
new-age-ish quazi-jazz-ish Boulder, Colorado pianist has put together
a set of traditional X-mas tunes done in a not so traditional way.
NEW AND IMPROVED it would say on the box if this was soap, but really,
it's nice if you enjoy mild-mannered jazz piano.

And, since it is after Christmas, consider this anyway, because
the style is just enough to disguise any heavy Christmas flavoring.

    Kater's Christmas CD, nice anytime.
