    This isn't really a reply,but seems the best place 4 it...
    
    Does anyone know if "Where The Streets Have No Name" (the latest
    U2  single) is available on CD Single in the UK ???

    Art, re. -1 any adverts I've seen for the new single, have mentioned
    only 7", 12" and cassette versions.  Still, that's not to say
    that a (very) limited edition CD single won't be issued.  For that
    matter, do you happen to know what the run for 'With Or Without
    You' was?  And, was 'Still Haven't Found' issued in this format?
        
    Finally, I believe 'Where The Streets' was released last Monday
    (August 24th) - interesting to note that it hasn't shown up in the
    new Gallup chart.

    Dougie,I think that there was around 10,000 CD's of With Or Without
    You,to my knowledge,I Still Haven't Found... was not available on
    CD Single.I asked 4 WTSHNN at 'REVOLVER' in Reading;
    one branch said it may be released in about 2 weeks
    another said that a 'trade' only one would be produced...
        "available to you at a record fair for around �50"
    I 'phoned Island records who said it would be released in two weeks.
    Don't know about it's (vinyl) release there,but it was put back
    to 1st September here,but none of the record shops I tried here
    had it yesterday.

    		As a U2 fan, I had all of their albums except "Boy"
    on vinyl. I decided to try "Under a Blood Red Sky" on CD. What a
    disappointment!!!! I then tried "The Unforgettable Fire" with similar
    results! There exist tremendous quality differences between discs,
    usually correlated with the label. These U2 discs along with Stevie
    Ray Vaughn's Live album comprise the absolute worst CDs that I own.
    I don't dare buy any more SRV or U2 discs. Any feedback?

I mentioned how disappointed I was in the "October" CD, but was quite happy 
with "The Joshua Tree".

There are some clear patterns I've noticed, but Warner/Atlantic/etc. is such a 
big company that there are no across-the-board rules for predicting quality on 
their discs.  Or even predicting whether a remix was done.

I wish there were more artists I like on MCA!

    Has anyone else gotten the new cd single?  I really like it...it
    has a remix of Where the Streets Have no Name plus 3 other songs,
    including a remix of Silver and Gold from Sun City.  The first time
    a song on a U2 album is exclusively credited to Bono!  The sound
    is very reminiscent to that of WAR with better production.  By the
    way, for those dissatisfied with the CDs...get hold of the Japanese
    imports if you can.  You might look more favorably on the production.

    In the UK. it's available as a promotional CD until the 21st, when
    it'll be more widely available, sayeth the man in the Reading Record
    Shop I went to, this lunchtime.

    Well, those of you out there who are into collecting CD singles
    had better grab 'em while you can.  In the U.K. at least, it looks
    like their commercial availability will soon be zero.  I read this
    in a magazine article last week, and the reason seems to be due
    to the fact that Gallup, the folks who pull together the weekly
    sales figures for the purposes of compiling the all-important chart,
    have recently decided not to include CD sales in a singles total.
    Hence, a good few of the major record companies have already stopped
    issuing this 'limited edition' format.
    
    Other sources say that there will eventually be a separate chart
    for CD singles, but that remains to be soon.
    
    Inevitably, if they are eventually only used as a promotional tool,
    the poor collector will undoubtedly be shelling out top $.

    Have there been any CD charts published?  I haven't seen any (neither
    have Our Price...).  I think Dougie is right, what with the major
    record stores now selling the "old" CD singles (i.e. pre-August)
    for 1.99 each, and the new ones (when they arrive) costing 7.99,
    they've pretty well priced themselves out of reach.  How much is
    the U2 CD single going to sell for Andy?

    I got the single in Vinylmania on Carmine street.  I know they place
    ads in Goldmine so they must do mail order.  The price was $14,
    but considering it's the only place I found it.  I had asked a while
    ago about future CD singles and was told there would be no others.  It 
    seems no one is sure as to why this was released, since as previously 
    stated, CD singles are not included in chart totals and usually are
    too costly to produce. I Still Haven't Found...is supposeldy available
    on an extremely limited basis as a DJ copy, but I would think that
    I'd have seen it here in NY or at least seen ads for it in either
    Goldmine or Record Collector.  Good luck locating it, it's worth
    the effort!

    There were no ads in september's Record Collector, but if you can't
    find it before then, look for it in october's issue.  I'm certain
    it will be listed by then.

    3.99 pounds, today at Simons Records in Yateley. They had plenty left.
    However, the promo CDS had the LIVE version on it, this has the
    version from Joshua Tree, plus "Race against Time", "Silver and Gold"
    and "Sweetest Thing" - which I haven't heard before. Not bad. 
    
    4 tracks, 16 minutes for ~4 quid, 9 for sound, 8 for quality.
    
    As an aside, I also saw my first CDV single today, playable on a
    normal CD player but no visuals of course, Level 42 was the band,
    but I was put off by the 9 pound price tag for 12 minutes music.

    Can you give the address for Simons Records.  Also, do you know
    if they do mail orders.  I would LOVE to get my hands on the promo
    CD.  If they don't accept mail orders, do you know of any other
    place that does.  Thanks for any assistance anyone can give me for
    locating the CD.

    The Promo isn't in Simons Records, the one I got from them was the
    "real Thing", available from all kinds of places over here, including
    Tower, who have a mailorder dept. Details in a previous base note
    (can't remember the number). 

    After being told by numerous individuals that Wide Awake In America
    was NEVER coming out on CD, I wandered into Vinylmania in NY and, 
    SURPRISE!!!  There it was, as a UK import!  Considering the album
    has one of the best versions of BAD available, I had to have it!
     The sound impressed me (compared to other U2 CDs).  For anyone
    looking to have a complete U2 CD collection you should definitely
    keep an eye out for it!!

    Noteworthy's new supplement lists the new live/studio U2 (I guess
    it's intended as a movie ST??) release as scheduled for the 4th
    of October.
