| | I had never heard of Duke Robillard before last week, when I
was invited to go see him down in Boston. Unfortunately, he canceled
the show. Since I didn't get to hear him play, I went out and bought
both "Pleasure King" albums and the "Swing" CD last weekend. I really
like the album "Too Hot To Handle" and can't wait for it to become
    available on CD (if ever).

| | re: 1 Who recorded the "Too Hot To Handle" album? I have a
Jorma Kaukonen solo acoustic album by the same title.
Love to find it on CD. The label is Relix.

| | This topic used to be named "SWING", which is the title of the
Duke Robillard album described in .0. But, given that there are
other CD's out by the Duke, I thought I'd turn it into a more
    general Duke Robillard topic.

I just found the third Duke CD today -- YOU GOT ME, on Rounder.
Terrific disc. Duke has his two Pleasure Kings, Thomas Enright
and Tommy DeQuattro playing with him on this, along with Dr.
John on piano (!) and Jimmie Vaughan on lead & rhythm guitars (!!).

A must for hard electric blues fans.

There's only one slight disappointment. Since the disc only totals
a little over 40 minutes, I was really hoping that Rounder would
toss on the three songs that they left off of the ROCKIN' BLUES
twofer CD. No such luck. And when I saw that Jimmie Vaughan was
on the disc, I was hoping that one of the tracks would be the
number that Jimmie and Duke did for a GUITAR PLAYER soundsheet.
    Again, no such luck. Sigh.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rounder has finally released a twofer CD of Duke Robillard's
first two albums. The good news is that it sounds wonderful.
The bad news is that this twofer follows in the same tradition
of previous Rounder combo-CD's in that in order to keep (1)
within the 74-minute limit, and (2) down to a single CD, they
left off 3 out of the 20 tracks from the two LP's. Not a big
deal, but as I'm a completist, this irks me. Now I can't sell
off my LP's. Actually, the big gripe is that they would've
stayed within the 74-minute boundry by leaving off only *one*
track rather than all three. *sigh*
