| 757.2 | Manchester Mall maybe? | MIGHTY::MICHAUD | I have become comfortably numb.. | Tue May 19 1987 10:39 | 8 |
|  |
    Well, it is by Rick Wakeman and it is available. The only problem
    is I can't remember for certain which store I saw it at. If my memory
    serves me right, I think I saw it at the record store at the Mall
    of New Hampshire in Manchester. If you do locate it perhaps you
    could post sound quality information here? Good luck, and I hope
    I havn't sent you on a wild goose chase!

| | I saw it a week over a week ago at the Lechemere in the Pheasant
      Lane Mall in NH. It is in the movie/soundtrack section.

    this just confusion on the part of the store clerk?

    	Could be confusion, or it could be thoughtless customers, who
    wander around with discs in their hand, and when they make up their
    mind, they just drop the discs in whatever bin is at hand.

    	I *HATE* when that happens ... 8^)

| | I've seen it. Once. I could kick myself for not buying it. The
    one I saw was brought to us by Mobile Fidelity. The ones who use
    the half speed masters. It was at a place called Compact Video
    in Greenville SC if any of you care. BTW, Compact Video is a
    wonderful place. It specializes in CD's and VHS video. They have
    a most amazing selection of hard-to-find CD's.

    it was 13.99.

| | I picked up a copy (they only had one) tonight at Strawberries in
    Shrewsbury. As mentioned earlier, it was in the soundtrack section.
    I paid $16.99 - not bad for a MFSL disc.

| | It's not surprising that it is filed strangely at the Pheasant
        Lane Lechmere. After all according to them Glenn Miller and
        Benny Goodman are "Big Band" not "Jazz", but Count Basie and
        Duke Ellington are "Jazz" not "Big Band". The Kingston Trio is
        "Jazz". Scott Joplin rags are "Classical". Superseesion is
        "Pop/Rock", Butterfield is "Jazz". Follow that? Neither did I.

| 757.10 | One more place | 32461::DJPL | Do you believe in magic? | Thu May 21 1987 13:29 | 6 |
| | It's also at Rockit Records in Nashua NH. It's filed under "Yes" due to
Wakeman's association with that band.
The version they have is the MFSL version.
I, unfortunately, bought the "regular A&M" version some months back.

| 757.11 | MFSL Sonic Differences | EXODUS::LEVY | Is reality an implementation? | Thu May 21 1987 18:01 | 16 |
| | Could we have some opinions on the sonic differences between the
    A&M and MFSL releases?

    I have the MFSL CD's of I Robot and Year of The Cat, which I like,
    but I'm not sure if they *sound* any better than the Arista releases -
    I bought the MFSL's 'cause they were first-to-market...

    Re. -.6
    Although Mobile Fidelity undoubtedly does _something_ when they remaster
    to CD's, half speed mastering wouldn't help - that's a vinyl record
    cutting head improvement...What I haven't figured out is how they
    made a Half-Speed Mastered vinyl LP out of a *digitally* mastered
    album: Donald Fagen's The Nightfly? Whatever analog tape they
    used wasn't, strictly speaking, "the original, two-track master
    recording"....

    Great,

	now we are getting somewhere. So now that I know that there are
    some people out there who actually have this CD, what can I use to
    identify it when I walk into the store to order it. In other words,
    what is a catalogue number?

		    Thanks, from someone who can't wait to get to
			the centre.

    Journey... is available for those who travel to the Great White
    North. Mush your way by dogsled or on snowshoes to Sam's on
    Yongue St. in Toronto. Or try Fantasmigoria on St. Catherine St.

|  | Hmmm.  At today's exchange rate, that's $14.13 U.S.
If those are typical prices, and not sale prices, and includes all taxes, a trip
to the Great White North to do CD shopping may be worthwhile.

    I used to live in Detroit and would often spend an afternoon shopping
    in Windsor. When returning I would always tell customs what I had
    purchased; they never charged any duty. (It was never over $200...)

| 757.20 | Ontario sales tax refund | ULTRA::HERBISON | UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS ONLY | Mon Jun 01 1987 18:37 | 12 |
| | Now that you have your number, back to the digression.

        If you go into Ontario you will get charged sales tax, but if
        you purchase CDs (or other non-expendables) and take them out of
        the country you can get a refund. I believe this is an attempt
        to encourage tourism. When I was in Toronto I purchased a
        variety of books and CDs and sent the receipts and the form to
        the correct government office and they replied with a check in
        American dollars. Not quite as convenient as New Hampshire, but
        if you are there and the price is right...
