I found myself in much the same boat and tried "Catching
the Sun." The sound is excellent, and I really enjoyed the
music. Lively but mellow jazz. I'm ready for more.

| Possibly their best CD is "Alternating Currents," available since the summer
of 1985. In 1986 "Breakout" was released. Not quite as good. I also have
"Catching the Sun" on CD and "Morning Dance" and "Carnaval" on vinyl.
All their music sounds very, very much alike. They are wonderful in concert.

| The info on Spyro Gyra is much appreciated. I'd like to hear
more about the quality (i.e. analog hiss, if any) of the CDs.
Also, I'd still like to know the name of that live album.

I second the vote for "Alternating Currents", no discernable
hiss or anything. I like the way they miked the recording. It
must be mastered digitally, though it is not clearly marked
if I remember. They do tend to sound the same but I have enjoyed
this one.
Unsolicited two cents
If you're into SG you might try Yellow JAckets "Shades" on CD.
They don't sound like SG but they have an uptempo west coast
sound and I think the recording is pretty good too. You too JP.

| Since no one has said it YET, the name of the live album is "ACCESS
ALL AREAS", and it has a drawing on the cover that is set in Boston
behind the Pru, near the Mass Turnpike entrance.

You should definitely try ``Freetime'' - my opinion is that it is
their best album yet. I have it on LP - but I saw it on CD
somewhere here in Stockholm a couple of days ago, so it should be
available. It's probably AAD, though - I think ``Alternating
Currents'' was the first S.G album that was digitally mastered.

I don't own any Spyro Gyra CDs but I have all there albums
except "Access All Areas" on LPs. I thought "Breakout" was the
only really inconsistent album they've done. The title cut
is great but the rest of the album doesn't match up. "Catching
The Sun" is my favorite.
SG fans might also like Skywalk, a good band with similar
sound. Flim & The BBs also remind me of SG at times.

I picked up ``Breakout'' last week - I don't agree with .8, in fact
I think it is at least as good as ``Alternating Currents''.
Does anyone know if ``Morning Dance'' is available on CD?

"Catching the Sun." No discernable noise on either.
The Green Catalog lists "Morning Dance" as MCA MCAD 37148.
