A previous note dedicated to CD players that worked had a couple
of replys about Technics SLP-7's that have drawer problems. I'd
to use this note have other SLP-7 owners respond about similiar

I'm not sure if this is a problem with the unit or a problem with
my analog listening background.
Usually when you drop -- or place -- a stylus on an lp, the expected
whooshes and clicks let you know that some software is in operation.
Of course, with CDs, just silence until the music. Here's what
happens with my SL-P7:
Press PLAY or start the program sequence and I hear the whirrs of
the mechanism (I guess it's the tracking system and motor speed
adjustments) and immediately the music starts. No problem, except
that sometimes I think the pickup misses the first fraction of a
second, like it over-positioned slightly. I notice this most
especially on a sudden attack like the opening chord of the "Star
Wars Theme" on RETURN OF THE JEDI or the subtle striking of the
hammer on the string of the GOLDBERG VARIATIONS.
It doesn't seem to be bothered by subsequent track selections.
For example, if I program tracks 3,1,5, & 7, the attack will be
missing from 3 but not from the others.
Of course, when compared with the remainder of the disc, the problem
only occurs for 1/27,000 of the listening time, but I'm wondering
if it's my imagination or if the unit needs adjustment.

Some units just don't seek to the beginning of the song well.
I doubt there is anything that can be done, but if it is under
warranty, it can't hurt to ask. Make sure you ask someone who
really knows the machine.

I haven't noticed this problem with my SL-P8 (although it would
be reasonable to assume they have the same basic electromechanical
and electronic components they could be a lot different).
