| | I doubt the laser is powerful enough to do anything to the air. I have
not noticed any of the effects you mention - perhaps you have something
else nearby that is causing these problems?

| | The odor follows the D5 wherever I position it. It seems to build-up inside
the case and is strongest when the lid is opened.

| | A new audiophile reason against CD's - they cause cancer :-)

| | I've been noticing the same smell coming from my D-5 when I lift the lid to
remove a disc. It smells like a very warm power supply to me. I haven't
investigated further, as the D-5 is working perfectly.

Ditto. (Ozone? How about "warm plastic")

| | Well it's still a mystery, but two other possible sources have been suggested.
Perhaps the disk drive motor or laser positioning servo. Considering that
pleasurable music it provides to me, I would have preferred a floral aroma.
