There's a compilation disc you can get here in the States on RykoDisc
called "Towering Dub Inferno". Its over 70 something minutes long and
contains Lee "Scratch" Perry, The Dub Syndicate, Scientist, 21st Century
Dub, Ras Michael and the Sons of Negus, Prince Far-I, Puls Der Zeit,
Black Uhuru, Neney the Observer, Mute Beat, Sanchez, Ruts DC and the
Mad Professor, and Roots Radics.

I have other stuff I consider Dub at home (I have this Cd here in the
office) but nothing besides Maxi Priest comes to mind.

    Also, some producers of 'electronic listening music' eg the Orb, Banco
    de Gaia etc. are using a lot of dub sounds and production in their

    Another label to look out for is On-U-Sound, if I remember correctly.
    
    Also, if you ever see anything by the New Age Steppers you should get a
    hold of it -- all stuff that came from the ex-Slits and various 
    Jamaican luminaries.

Look for the "Mad Professor meets ..." for UK Scientist type Dubs, also any 
King Tubby albums (a new compilation has just been released). Sly and 
Robbie released a multitude of Dub albums in the 70's and early 80's (some 
under an alias) and for some upto date dubs Ragga style check out some of 
the dub albums from studios like King Jammy's and Bobby Digital.  You may 
have to visit a specialist reggae shop to obtain some of the above, but I 
have seen the Mad Professor albums in HMV etc.  If you would like them I 
could post the addresses of Greensleeves and Dub Vendor mail order, as 
these would be able to sell you all of the above and lots,lots more.

One excellent dub album available in the normal stores is "New Chapter of 
Dub" by Aswad, also most Lee Perry albums should be available.

Check out anything by Jah Shaka.  The albums are called "The 10 
commandments of Dub - part " 1..2..3 etc.

Maxi Priest is definitely NOT Dub, his early albums are Lovers Rock, whilst 
the ones released over the last couple of years are Lovers/pop, although he 
has just released a couple of singles with Jamaican DJ's.

    Thanks for the replies folks, plenty to check out there. No, Maxi
    Priest is not what I'd consider dub. Ruts DC - didn't they evolve out
    of the original Ruts (Babylon's Burning) after the lead singer (Malcolm
    Owen?) topped himself. Did a great song called "Jah War" - is this the one
    on your compilation album?
    
    I have the U.F.Orb album with it's dub track: good, but not really what
    I'm after.

    You might try reading this months "Straight No Chaser" magazine. They
    mention a dub group "House of Manasah"(?) who are supposed to be quite
    good....

Mi God Mi King was done by Phillip Levi, Maxi Priest and him used to 
perform for Saxon sound at about the same time though.

Going back to the early eighties, I think the style was called Fast-style.

Other artists using this style were Pato Banton and Tippa Irie to name but 
a few.

They soon converted to the Jamaican DanceHall stylee though.

    	A friend of mine came up to the house with a tape of a Black Uhuru
    	dub album.He said - bet you can't listen to this for long after 
    	we'd had a couple of "cigarretes".
    
    	I thinks - music can't affect you that much - put it on and I'll 
    prove you wrong - lasted five minutes!
    
    	He'd says he hasn't come across anyone that can listen to it for 
    any length of time - 
    
    Thing is when listening to it straight it's no bother - don't
    understand that.It's as if they know the noises that will freak you
    out.It is VERY heavy dub - and now after a few listens you can get
    right into it - sorry - but don't ask me the name of it as he taped it
    off  a mate and never got the name.
