    Help,  I'm looking for ideas .....

    It's my brother's 25th wedding anniversary in June and I foolishly suggested
    that it would be a good idea to put together a cassette containing hit songs
    from that year ... 

    Now, I can get loads of info from my Guinness book ...  all the No.1s and 
    top ten singles etc etc  but how do I get copies of them ?   I don't really
    want to have to buy all the singles.

    I can write to the Beeb to see if they offer such a service. Also MM and 
    the NME might do it.  Oldies Unlimited are worth a try if they are still 
    in business but does anyone know of a 'custom made cassette' type of 
    service ?

    There are also lots of compilation albums based around years.   Its
    worth taking your time and looking thru the Various Artists sections,
    esp in the larger record stores.

    Wasn't there a series of albums that came out a few years ago to
    accompany the Rock'n'Roll Years? Or are the side effects of the

    I was given a double cassette featuring music from the year of my
    birth, most of it dreadful (pre-1968, I'm afraid). It was bought for me
    at the Fleet Services on the M3, five years ago. Not very helpful,
    that, but it does prove that the compilations are available.

I saw in ASDA at lunchtime that EMI have a series of CD's (no doubt on tape too)
featuring the greatest hits from a certain year. I didn't see 1968 but did see
1963 & '67 so there must be one around.

    I meant to reply to this before, but forgot. I hope it's not too late.
    
    Boots in Basingstoke have a PC set up in their record department that
    allows you to search a database of Album and Video titles. I plugged in
    1968 and it came up with 200 titles, though not all of them relevant.
    The best bet would seem to be "Greatest Hits of 1968" - catalogue# 
    TCGH1968 at �5.49.  There is also "25 Years of Rock & Roll - 1968" (one
    of a set of about 25), which you can get off the shelf in Woollies.
