Anybody here ever heard of the River City People?
I saw them as suppout band at the Brixton Acadamy a couple of weeks
ago and they were excellent, so I bought the album which is also
excellent.
Anybody got any more info on them?

The name rings a bell, because when I saw it it reminded me of the
River Detectives. Dunno anything really but would like to find out
myself.
What's the sound like ??

For a debut album, the sound is remarkably professional. They are
a 4 piece band with a female singer from Liverpool and I have heard
that the area where they are most popular at the moment is Scotland.
They sound a little like another Scottich band - Texas but from
what I've heard of both albums the Texas one is no where near the
same standard of the River City People which is consistantly good
all the way through.
Having played it to several people (most of which then went and
bought it themselves) similarities between several bands have been
noted and although I don't agree with all their comments here are the
bands other people think they sound like
Texas, Deacon Blue (with female singer), Fleetwood Mac (?), U2 (on
some livlier tracks)
I also heard that they were supposed to be supporting Wet Wet Wet
at the free concert in Glasgow the other week but had to pull out
because Wet Wet Wet's management asked the band for several thousand
pounds to allow them to appear at the last moment and they refused
to pay.

| 503.3 | Second single out | TRUCKS::HOY | Thu Oct 19 1989 11:05 | 2 | |
The band now have a single out (their second) called Say Something
Good... pretty good - a fair indication of the album.
