Obviously not many Fallophiles read this conference, but I'll say
this anyway. The Songs they played in the ballet have now been
released on an album of (sort of) the same name, `I am Kurious,
Oranj'. Most of it has been re-recorded in a studio, but a few
of the tracks are live. in my opinion, one of their best albums
as they're getting more sophisticated by the hour.

Rumor has it of a single live date at the Town & Country on December
    the 20th.
    	Lee.

I think you couldn't go wrong by starting with 'grotesue - after
the gramme' lp , possibly along with the 'slates' mini-lp.

    both are classic fall.

there is also a fall compilation with ' i'm into C.B ' and others
which is great stuff. can't remember the title right now but it
    will come to me..

The compilation album with "I'm into C.B." on it is "Hip Priests and
    Kamerads", a pretty good album.

My best album? Well, probably the singles album, "Palace of Swords
Reversed", containing some real great stuff like "Totally Wired" and
"The Man Whose Head Expanded". Best song is a completely impossible
category for me. they're all brilliant.

| 185.17 | any tour plans? | RTOIC::HHALISCHAK | Strangeways here we come... | Mon Jun 19 1989 09:50 | 17 |
| | Any hope of The FALL going on tour on the continent, preferably
    with their Kurious dance performance???

They were in Munich some months ago, appearing in a so-called "Off
Beat" night, organized by a private TV station (Tele 5), together
with The Godfathers among others. BUT - it was a small venue, and
no tickets were on sale, only "invited guests" were let in, most
of them not really interested in that sort of music but just wanting
to be seen... So apparently, according to a write-up of the night
in a local What's On paper, the atmosphere wasn't all that exciting,
and The FALL didn't really care. Not surprising, I wouldn't want
to perform for those trendies and show-offs... (Not that I've ever
    been asked to...)

Well, hoping for good news on a tour

| 185.18 | `Seminal Live' review | OTTO::COTTON | The man with no personal name | Mon Jun 26 1989 16:07 | 31 |
| |
The new Album `Seminal Live' appears to be a mere filler album. Maybe it's
just a contract fulfillment before they leave Beggars Banquet to Phonogram
pastures greener, or maybe it's just a reminder for the record buying
population that they're still around after what must be twelve years. Either
way it's not a real album and it may only appeal to those out to collect any
Fall output whatsoever.
Half of the album is new stuff and the other half is live versions of their
older songs. First, the new material: this really seems like just out-takes or
failed tunes that didn't even meet The Fall's standards. Only two of the
tracks, `Dead Beat Descendant (from the Curious Orange show)' and `Pinball
Machine' could actually be called songs, the others seems to be just Mark E's
Manc Rants over standard Fall Doom-Bass drumbeats. Not any of them are really
catchy enough to become old faves, they just seem to be messing around.
The live side of the album has really been hashed together with no finesse at
all, although over-production was never one of their faults. A couple of good
oldies like `Pay Your Rates' and `L.A.' are there and hammered out in true live
style. Still not exactly a real example of their live prowess though, some of
it appears to be almost bootlegged from a walkman in the crowd.
This album is at a reduced price on all formats, so you won't be totally ripped
off if you do buy it. This is good as it doesn't have much more status in the
fall discography as an endorsed bootleg. I beleive they're working on the
first phonogram album now, due out before the end of this year. Let's hope
that `Seminal Live' is just a contract fullfilment rather than the shape of
things to come.
	Lee.

I managed to get a pre-release copy of this on Saturday, and once again The Fall
have come up with the goods. I was quite disappointed with the previous album
`Shift Work' because all those new keyboards and drum-machines didn't seem to
fit in with everything else that was going on. Now it sounds like they've got a
grip on it. It's got that great plodding Fall sound, very addictive and
pretty danceable. Another essesntial Fall album, I'm afraid.

I can't decide whether I like Code: Selfish more or less than Shift
Work - probably both about the same. I think the best tracks on C: S
are "Immortality", which even a Dancing Dad would have to admit has a
good beat, and "Free Range". "Married, 2 Kidz" is up there too, mainly
because of the line: `I have a peculiar, goatish, smell'.

| | I remember hearing a Fall song a few years back but never caught the
title. The chorus went something along the lines of:

    "Moving it uptown, uptown, uptown
     Moving it uptown................"

Well, I think that was it. Anyone know it? Think it was a single
a therefore may have appeared on last years(?) singles compilation?

The `Moving it Uptown' bit comes from the Song `Cab it Up', which is on Kurious
Oranj. I believe it was part of a double A-Side single.
Recent fall albums are pretty groovy, whereas earlier efforts are verging on the
unlistenable. The last album `Code Selfish' is a real good one. The new EP,
`Ed's babe' is really good too, if you can still get it.

featuring 4 tracks (Kimble, Gut of the Quantifier, Spoilt Victorian
Child and Words of Expectation). Listened to it this morning, and
although it's not essential Fall, it's still pretty good.

Also released imminently, new single `Why are people grudgeful?',
apparently featuring, amongst other tracks, a cover of Sister Sledge's
`Lost in Music'. New album to follow in April.

I got the new album, The Infotainment Scam, a couple of weeks ago. It's
more accessible than even the last couple of albums, but still
    recognisably the Fall.
For hardened fans, it's a bit disappointing in that Mark E doesn't get
any decent "-uh-"s in until track five (It's a Curse-uh), but this
track makes up for it with some excellent lines: "I do not like your
tone. It has ephemeral, whingeing aspects". "Vimto and Spangles were
always crap". There's also couple of loopy cover versions (Lost in Music,
Going to Spain), and some more typical Fall stuff (League of
    Bald-Headed Men, Glam-Racket etc).

    8/10.

| | Saw the Fall last night for the 14th time in the last 12 years and they
were dreadful. They played Glasgow tech to only 200/250 people and had
a terrible sound and played really badly. They had this woman singing
two songs that were crap and you couldn't hear her plus Brix guitar was
so badly out of tune that it was painful to listen to and they also
stopped in midsong twice because they didn't seem to know what was
going on. I couldn't believe it was the same band that were brilliant
at Pheonix last year. I'll put it down to a bad one-off but at times
I thought it looked like a band on the verge of self destruction.
That would be a sad loss...

| | Well, the new Fall single - The Chiseler - is out...(I'm sure its spelt
like that on the cover). Its pretty spiffing, and very odd. The cover
says that it 'refers to recent events at Halifax football club' - I
don't suppose anyone out there has any idea what events these are?

Also worth getting to hear Brix shout 'Pink Floyd are short'. No, I
have no idea why she thinks they are short...
