	I read this note & thought this guy has got to be joking, the title of 
this conference is UK_MUSIC. Are we being invited to jam over DECnet?

	So I went to note the introductory note 1.0 to find some ammunition for
a smart-arse putdown and found :-

	Seriously Jim, I think you might find it more productive to enter/reply

    Hi, there don't seem to be many of us around or is it just that
    they ain't discovered notes yet. Anyway I'm Richard Bell, I work
    for SWAS in Leeds and play guitar. I was a 'Folkie' for many years
    and used to go to the Caversham Arms on Sunday nights a few years
    ago when I lived in Reading (I hear they knocked that down recently)
    Nowadays I've gone electric, and play 50's,60's70's stuff in a 4
    piece band. We get a few gigs in some of the local country pubs
    around Harrogate where I live, don't make much money but have a
    lot of fun. I like EC,MK and JH but couldn't pretend to say I play
    like any of them but my 'Wonderful Tonight' isn't too bad! I still
    have an acoustic and may well be staying in Reading for a while
    at the end of July (W/C 25th) while a customer runs some benchmarks
    at TMC. If anyone fancies a jam let me know.

	My God I must have offended Jim from Mass as he appears to have deleted 
the base note.

	In the all the excitment I forgot to mention that I play a bit and 
would get into jamming. I have a Fender Strat and a Session amp and know the 
Blues scale (plus one or two others).

	I suppose I could list my influences (Zappa, Garcia, Robbie Robertson
etc.) but it doesn't do much good as I can't play like any of them. 

	Probably play away only as my neighbours and wife don't understand that 
sometimes you just _have_ to turn it up until the feedback hurts.

	I work in Snamprogetti House, Basingstoke and live south of BS.

		Ibanez 12 string (awaiting repair)
    
    Influences:	Anything/one whose material sounds good on acoustic guitar
		(Paul Simon, Moody Blues, Eagles, Everlys, Creedence 
		Clearwater, Buddy Holly, etc etc). 

        Needs:	Having been born and bred on a 12 string the ol' finger 
		techniques and barre chords have not really developed as they 
		would have on a 6. Also, need to develop the ability to
		'you hum it I'll play it'. For instance, if its C,F,G or 
		C, Am, F G then I'm OK. Beyond that I'm lost. Keep meaning to
		have some formal lessons in blues, rock etc. Maybe this winter.

     Ambition:	To have a Red and White Fender Strat hanging on the wall (yes,
		I'd probably play it as well!).

    		If you're really into 12 string try giving 'The Church'
    a listen. Marty Wilson-piper is a brilliant 12 string guitarist
    who plays acoustic/electric-acoustic/electric 12 string in the band.

    If your picking hand (normally right) could do with being a wee
    bit more dextrous then try twirling a pencil around each of your
    fingers, sort of like what flash drummers do with their sticks.

    pss Leo Kottke is another exponent of the 12 string. Sort of bluesy
    folk.

    Fellow musicians. My name is Billy Mulqueen. I'm working in the
    Galway manufacturing plant and I've got 2 Voxes (guitars).
    
    One is a fairly recent Custom 25. The other is more interesting
    and that's why I'm trying to get some information.
    
    The second guitar is a VOX Super Lynx Deluxe. It was made in Italy
    for VOX by a company called Goya(?) and I have the original hardshell 
    case. The guitar consists of a hollow body with tremolo and two 
    pickups. I bought it in the States 2 years back.
    
    What I would like to know is this:
    
    		What are the specifications i.e. type of pickups, etc?
    		What is one in good condition worth?
    
    BTW, this is purely for my own information. I'm not interested in
    selling.

    though, theyre what can only be described as a guitar band, playing
    Psychedelic stuff a bit like an up-to-date Byrds.

    Do you get a publication called 'Making Music' in Eire ? This is a 
    free monthly given out at music shops, and has a Guitar Guru column
    where questions like yours are answered. I don't have their address

    Hi there folks,
    	There seems to be a bit of a run on drummers at the moment.
    I'm Alan Lloyd, bin playing for a while, getting better all the
    time and will play absolutely anything (as long as it's a drum or
    cymbal).
    	I've got a REALLY hot kit, 7-piece black Pearl Export with a drum
    rack to support it all. It looks fantastic (it should do for the
    price I payed for it) and sounds even better. 
    	I tend towards the heavier side of music BUT I'll jam with anyone,
    absolutely anyone. In fact there's *almost* nothing I like better.
    	I'm working at The Crescent, Basingstoke. So if there's anyone
    out there who fancies a session or even needs a drummer for a band
    I'm the one to go for.
    	I like most rock music, some folk and even the odd pop song
    (I'm not a closet Teeny-Bopper though!!) and my influences are just too
    many to list.

      Little question, does anybody know of a good "teach yourself" guitar
    book - not classical - but very basic folky..  My piano playing didn't
    work out (cause my bloody mother has "lost" a full size yamaha keyboard
    I found this weekend when I went to pick it up eventually)  so it's the
    guitar...  Any advice ( I haven't even bought one yet) would be most
    welcome. I do know a bit about musical theory, but nowt about guitars.

you said you hadn't bought one yet, so surely it can't be either electric or 
acoustic?  A twin cutout Gibson SG would be quite a nice choice.

Buy a cheap, but comprehensive, chord book. Learn how to play the chords of
C, D & G ( or A,E & D or F,  Bflat & C ), and before you know 
it you can play most pop songs.

     The first sequence should have read G, C & D.... I seem remember that
     F was a "challenging " chord for beginners. My other advice was 
     learn bar chords as soon a possible. Initially it can hurt like hell
     but its well worth it in the long run.
