| | The theme for "Grace Under Fire" because it's sung by the Queen of Soul
    herself.

I like how "Murphy Brown" opens with a different tune (usually MOTOWN)
    each week.

I agree with the noter who cited "Mad About You" (co-written by Paul
Reiser, by the way), and I always like the theme for Mary Tyler Moore.

I agree with the first reply. I really liked the theme from Greatest
American Hero. I also liked the theme music (the original score) from
    Quantum Leap.

| | Mike Post has done almost all of my favorite TV theme music (Rockford Files,
NYPD Blue, St. Elsehwere, etc). But my absolute, top, all-time favorite TV
theme music has got to be Hill Street Blues.
Mildly interesting story follows:
As part of some research a friend of mine was doing on relaxation techniques,
I was hooked up to an EEG machine to measure different brain-wave patterns.
(No snide comments about a total lack of any brain activity, you in the
corner snickering :-)). There is one type of wave activity (alpha waves?)
which measure level of tension, and the more of these waves you have the more
relaxed you are. I found that by simply remembering the opening bars and
visualizing the opening scene of the credits, I instantly became totally
relaxed: muscles loose, slight smile, and these waves being produced such
that the EEG needle jumps off the chart. I suppose it has to do with how
much I enjoy(ed) the show, but it never fails to relax me. Very useful in
tense situations...

I've had a lot of favorites, but the ones that jump to mind are like
    the ones already mentioned.
    		- Greatest American Hero. This one came first to mind.
Probably because it was played endlessly in sports arenas
around the country, especially during basketball
    		  comebacks. "Believe it or not!!!!!!!!:

    		- The Rockford Files. This was great.

    		- Maverick. From way back, I still remember this one.
"From Natchez to New Orleans, living on jacks and queens,
Maverick is a legend of the west."

    		- Cheers. My favorite of all time.

| | During the Emmy awards Sunday night (9/11) they did a tribute to TV
Theme songs. Jason Alexander (from Seinfield) and a "backup" group went
through 30 or 40 theme songs, in a rather interesting mixture
(sometimes only a line or so from the song). The skit was also a
commentary on the possibility that network executives will eliminate
    theme songs.

I don't know if this is good news or not - but I recognized all but 3,
even without the props they used to get recognition for the song.... tv
    generation or what.

I have favorites and also have the ones that run through the brain and

theme music of E S if I remember correctly.
