It's all Jimmy Carter's fault.

    Why is it Jimmy Carters fault??  I think people should take
    responsibilites for thier own actions.  Remember "Everything you need
    to know you learned in kindergarten."  People just need to be a little
    more forgiving and patient.

  So what did they say and why is it Jimmy Carter's fault?

  Seems all he's done lately is build houses. Did he build one that's
destroying civilization? Must be quite a house.

    The program talked about how we are no longer a civilized nation.  That
    we as a people have taken the "I am in this for myself attitude." 
    People don't seem to care anymore.  They are always blaming the
    problems of this country on other people, the government, the kids, the
    system in general etc.  No on seems to want to take responsibility for
    anything they may do to add to the deterioration of this country.  It
    is not the big the things.  It is the little things we do everyday.  I
    feel that unless you can be absolutly certain that you are doing
    everything YOU can then don't blame anyone else.  AND SO ON AND SO
    ON...

  Sounds like a report written by people who have nothing better to do than
complain. In any case, how is it Jimmy Carter's fault? Building houses for
poor people sounds like a pretty civilized thing to do.

I was kidding.  I think Jimmy Carter is the only decent man we've had for
president in a long time.  I didn't see the report.

Actually, it was Ronald Reagan's fault.

    The "it's somebody else's fault" has been perpetuated via all those
    "reports" and other things that are so often citied as part of
    newscasts, political campaigns, etc.  Schools are going downhill
    because of teachers, administrators, MTV, whatever.  Anything but
    the kids and their parents.  Kids are "bad" these days because the
    "world" is bad, conveniently implying that the rest of society is to
    blame and forgetting that kids and parents are PART of that evil
    society.  
    
    Nobody likes to hear that something is their own fault.  So what we watch,
    read and listen to does not say that.  They cater to what we want to
    hear (Hell, lookit the plethora of coverage on this ice-skating thing. 
    Lots of people get clubbed every day.  It was ICE SKATING not the end
    of the world as we know it.  But people obviously wanted to hear about
    it and hear about it we did.  Ad nauseum.  Same for the Bobbit thing.
    And Amy Fisher. And...), and what we (speaking in general terms, I'm 
    sure/I hope there are exceptions) that it's Somebody Else's fault.  
    
    Anyway, this is really nothing new.  The blame for ills simply shift. 
    One day, it's communism.  The next it's Japan taking over our economy. 
    The next it's explicit lyrics on records.  Or the 1960's.  Or bare
    butts on TV.  Or whatever.

    Mr. Nostrodamus said we will all blow ourselves up in 1999 due to the
    middle east having nukes.
