What's with the male actors refusing to shave, wash or comb their hair before
going on stage before 1 billion people? Richard Gere, Robert Downey, Al pacino
..etc...
For the women I think that Sophia Loren, Barbara Streisand and Sharon Stone
had the best designer fashions...the rest were competing for ugliest dress
award...
Billy Crystal was again a riot but I missed most of the inside jokes about
the films..not having gone to the movies in 10 months or so...
And I'm sick of hearing political messages preached from the pulpit at the
Oscars...

| | Billy Crystal had me on the floor. He seems to be getting beat up in the
Movie notes file, but I thought he was great.
As for the men's hair styles I imagine that those are regulated by what ever
movie that particular actor is working on at the moment. If some were long
and shaggy, Tom Hanks looked like a skin head with a hint of a Fu Man Chu (sp?)
on his chin.
Yeah, political speeches. What else is new? They always do that.
Too long, too many mid level awards, too late, but 6PM to 9PM on the West
Cost may be the reason why.

I am one of the folks who love all the award shows... I never miss em'
but lastnights show...was very boring! Billy was not the same..he
was very withdrawn for Billy. I hated his tux also.. to much black.

The only award I agreed w/ was the woman from My Cousin Vinny!

I think Danzil should of gotten the award for best actor, but Al
does deserve the recoginiton for all his work over ther years..so
    I can live w/ it.

| | For those who missed it:

Every year Billy Crystal makes his entrance in some bizarre fashion
(last year he was wheeled out on a handtruck, wearing a Hannibal
    Lecter mask)
This year, again, there was a lot of speculation on how he would
make his entrance, and he didn't disappoint.
When the announcer said "Ladies and Gentlemen, Billy Crystal,"
the curtains parted, and there was Jack Palance with what appeared to
be large golden ropes or chains. As Palance began to pull these chains,
(with his teeth, no less) it was revealed that these golden ropes were
tied to a large facsimile statue of "Oscar" laying on the stage, and
as Palance pulled the statue across the stage with his teeth, Billy
Crystal "appeared" riding on Oscar's back... It was great...

I too agree with the winning by Marissa Tomei. She was fantastic in My
Cousin Vinny. She was also excellent in Untamed Hearts (maybe another
    one for next year?).

You can tell people were very upset about her winning. The other
nominees were very "polished" actresses and Marissa'a win upset some
    stodgy folks in the industry.

    Go Marissa!

Some of the actors looked like bums, ie Tom Hanks and Joe Pecsi,
because they are in the middle of making a movie. They look that
way in the movie. Pecsi was in Cambridge a couple of weeks ago for
a shot and thats how he appeared.

I don't mind a bit. But I did leave out one award.

    	ORIGINAL SONG
    		Whole New World, Aladdin

If you'll check the time on my original note, I was typing away as the
    Oscars finished up.

As for the "looks" of Mr. Pacino, et al....

I personally thought the beard made him look younger, not that he
    looked that bad without it.

Last night, Jay Leno said that Pacino was looking that way, scruffy
beard and all, 'cause he was rehearsing for his latest role:

That of David Koresh (of the Waco stand-off).

    Funnnnny, Jay, funnnnny...

| | Billy Crystal is WONDERFUL. He tops himself every year. Since I'm
addicted to the "rags" and also worked in the entertainment industry
for over 8 years, I rolled on the floor, especially with the "insider"
    jokes.
