Work hard for the Lord? I think we should give it our best. As a
musician in the church (baritone section leader of the adult choir and
ringer in the bell choir) my pet peeve is people who arrive late
consistently. There's a gentleman in my section who is always at least
10 minutes late call regardless of whether we're singing at 8:15 or
9:30. He doesn't seem to realize that the 20 minutes of rehearsal
prior to the service serves as the time to pull the music together
musically, emotionally, and spiritually and that when he's late he
throws the whole thing off balance -- especially musically. How can I
deal with such an individual. I've gently, through kidding, etc.,
hinted that he maybe ought to try setting his alarm a little earlier on
Sunday a.m. or I was going to start being his alarm clock via a phone
call at 7:00 a.m., but I don't think he gets it. When is it
appropriate to chastise a fellow Christian who's somewhat lazy attitude
towards his service to the Lord "gets in the way" of others' service?

Same as in any situation...church or at work. I would tell him directly
why its important to be on time.
Same problems with meetings at DEC. When I run them, I try to start on
time. One trick that I have used, is to start at a "odd" time, like
9:06 AM. Seems to make people arrive better, since they think that the
time is special.

I have high expectations of people who respond to the call to
serve within the church and beyond the church. If we fall
short of meeting the requirements of our jobs, even though they
might not be revenue generating, we're not only letting down
the others with whom we work, but it's a reflection of our
feeling about our Supreme Employer.
I like the bumper-sticker that says, "My Boss is a Jewish Carpenter."
