What we fail to do is just as serious as what we do, is it not? Peace, Richard

years and years ago, my mother got a vivid illustration of
the penaties of 'sins of ommission'....
the siren on the telephone poll near our house in New Jersey
died one day. Up until then it had gone off obnoxiously
as a test, every Saturday at noon for 3 mins. Since the pole
was on our property, we got the 'brunt' of it for those three
minutes.
So, when it 'died, mom decided not to call the town government
and tell them it was dead.
Some months later, it went of again on time, only this Saturday,
it didn't quit....
We called the town, we called the police, but it was *excruciating*
*hours* later, before it got turned off.
My mom said that experience really made her appreciate 'sins of
ommision' for the first time.

Complicity, the ascent of silence, the blind allegiance; Complacency, the fear of discomfort, the resignation, the hesitancy to disturb or disrupt in defiance of injustice; The relinquishment of responsibility. Surely, this is sin.

My favorite verses concerning sins of omission are:
Proverbs 24: 11
If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are
ready to be slain;
Proverbs 24: 12
If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart
consider it? and he that keepeth not he render to every man according to his
works?

In his recent book, former United States Surgeon General Everett Koop reveals that the Reagan administration forbade him to say anything about the AIDS epidemic for five and a half years after its existence had been established by the medical community. Richard
