Hi, Has anyone had any experience cruising in Europe.. e.g. north from Germany, to Scandanavia, England or so on. What of from the north into the Med. or the islands of Canary, or others. Anyone traveled as passengers on a Freighter? Interested in these and any cruises across the Pond say, New York to London, Amsterdam, or Hamburg. Input anyone! Dave

I once travelled as a passenger on a small freighter from Edinburgh,
across the North Sea and down to Aalborg in Denmark. There were
two 4-berth cabins and the passengers took their meals with the
Captain and his officers. I was hosteling at the time on a budget
of about $5/day so I really took advantage of the food. Dinner
was a smorgasboard of smoked fish, meats and breads. I stuffed
myself only to discover that it was only the appetizer which was
soon followed by soup, a fish course, a roast, then a cheese tray
and finally plates of thick pound cake and strong coffee.
This was back in '67 and I think the whole thing cost me about $24.
There are lots of small freighters puttering around. You just go
down to the docks and find out who's going where.
