(One more note and I better get back to work)
Like most average golfers, I am inconsistent with long irons. I love
to see a 2 or 3 iron well hit, but I probably only do it 1 out of 3.
So on this Sunday round (Besides trying my new Burner Bubble) I
decided to go with four woods.
What moved me was that I started to hit very solidly my 5 wood (about
190-200 yards) and the trayectory is higher so balls land more
softly.
My in-laws gave me a Ginty (about a 7 wood) several years back, and I
haven't tried in a long time. I took the 2 iron out and put the
Ginty in I was pleased with it. I missed my tee shot on 8th South at
Stow and had about 185 to the pin, the Ginty put me right up there
with a 7 feet birdie putt.
In the past I kind of pointed to people with more than 2-3 woods as
people who where just trying to get distance, but I find that I am
also more consistent and accurate with 5 and 7 woods than 2 or 3
irons.
So, comments? Anybody else who prefers woods for consistency, not
necessarily for distance?
(Just look at all the ads for the Big Bertha Heaven wood and Divine
Nine)

| 2031.1 | I prefer 7-wood to 2-iron | ROCK::PARKER | Mon Aug 07 1995 12:44 | 8 | |
I have a Big Bertha Heaven Wood (7-wood) that I much prefer to my
2-iron. The Heaven Wood is great out of the rough where an iron might
get hung, and the wood usually flies higher for the same carry.
So, I carry four woods, but the 7-wood replaces either my 1 or 2-iron
as a more generally useful club for both distance and accuracy.
Your mileage may vary...
