| | I'm gonna root for Corey Pavin, cause were about the same height,
and hit the ball the same distance, (although he's more accurate ;-))

I always root for Norman, cause he's been snake-bit in the U.S.
based majors, how many guys have holed out for birdies and eagles to
    beat him, its uncanny.

I'll also root for all the 40 something guys, specially guys like
Irwin, (he is playing ain't he?), I'll root for Davis Love this week to
make it in the field, he had a chance last week til the 17th at the
    TPC.

For what its worth, Watson wrote a letter to Frank Chirkianian sp?
of CBS Sports complaining about McCords commentary and how it wasn't
respectful enough for the Masters, while I respect Watson and his
opionion, and hope he does well in the tourney, I don't share his views
on McCord. I like his commentary, he makes the tournements he covers
fun to watch and uses laymans terms, ones we as golfers use almost
every round, to describe the play. CBS should not have caved to the
Masters officails or Tom Watson in regards to McCord's presence, but
unfortantly they did, and the tournement coverage will be poorer for
    it.

|  |     Re:        <<< Note 2002.0 by ASDG::TREMBLAY "Hyperlinked to Cyberspace" >>>
Based on last year's poor showing of americans in all Majors, I
believe the press is going to make a big deal about how US players
perform this year, and the Masters being the first one, will set the
    tone.

If the Players Championship was an indication with Lee Jansen
winning, hopefully there will be some good US presence next week, but
Langer was there all the way, and Faldo has had a good start in the
US since joining the US tour.

Based on early tournaments, Pavin, Jacobsen and Jansen should be up
there for the US. I think Price is putting too much pressure on
himself (he has stated that all he cares is winning the Masters and
the US Open). Norman hasn't had any great finishes this year as far
as I know. Els? Olazabal? who knows...

Always rooting for him, Seve seems to be coming back but can't quite
    make it all the way.

So my take is that the following will be in the chase come Sunday
April 9th when the tournament really starts (back 9):

    Jacobsen
    Faldo
    Pavin
    Langer

Don't forget, Price has won the last 2 majors...

While I cracked up when McCord said the infamous bikini wax
line, I also immediately knew that he dug his own grave by
saying it. He knew what was expected of him and, to me,
he was toast regardless of Watson's letter.

Jake would be a great win. Best bet would be Watson near the
lead on the weekend only to once again miss the short ones to
    	fall back.

Seve's playing great and Augusta's wide fairways / no rough
fit his game (he's won it twice, hasn't he?).

I'm rooting for Mark O'Mara, then Norman, and finally, my old
buddy from Chicagodom - Ray Floyd!!

I, too, like McCord; he does have some great lines. But CBS is
the most uptight network in existence. Imagine if Fox was broadcasting
The Masters. Now that would be something....

Otherwise, Janzen is tooo tightly wound, Pavin cannot win a big
one, Langer is a threat (expect him in the top 5), Stewart is my dark
horse (he'll probably wear Atlanta Falcons colors on Sunday), and
Sauers may have a shot considering his very strong finish at the TPC.

One thing's for sure, it's The Masters - and we should see some
    GREAT golf.

    Hello,

Gotta like Larry Mize's chances. Augusta is his stomping grounds and he
has (I believe) been playing well this year. I also like Ben Crenshaw
and his chances to win a second "Green Jacket".

Considering that Norman's season really just started three weeks ago
he is poised well for the Masters (IMO).

Watch out for Phil Mickleson(sp?), if he wears his game face and brings
his magical short-game he can certainly be a top contender! I really
hope that Tiger Woods makes the cut. It will be a huge challenge for
him, but the Kids got GRIT!

As always the Masters should be a Blast! Time for the Pimento(sp?)
cheese sandwiches and Mint jullips(sp?) YUK!

IMO - McCord adds a refreshing and new look to televised golf.
It is a shame that he will not be at the Masters this year.
I would imagine that Bobby Jones is lookin down and getting a real
chuckle out of how big of a mountain the mole hill was made into.

Gotta like Jacks play at the tradition, and how that set him up for a
Masters run, the greens at the Cocheise course were very fast, and Jack
putted as well as he has in years. If he can continue the great putting
at Augusta, look for him on the first page of the leaderboard.

| | Saw a breif clip on ESPN last night about Tiger Woods, he played a
practice round with Norman, Couples, and Watson. Norman said he (Woods)
is longer than hisself of the tee, and that he expects great things
from Tiger in the future. The reports also said the Monday and Tuesday
were dry with Tuesday being windy and that the greens were not puttable
by "humans". They do expect some rain today and possibly Thursday,
which will hopefully slow up the greens enough to be puttable, and they
    expect good weekend weather.

Also a brief note on Love, and how remarkable it is that he said going
into the Freeport/MacMorhan that he needed to win the tourney to get
into the Masters, and then went out and did it. When you think about
it, that really is an incrediable acheivement, and should really boost
his confidence going into this week, I hope he has a good showing this
    week.

Tiger hit a 354 yard drive on 15 to get to app 180 where he hit his
9-iron. This is not your typical PGA drive. Most folks use a 3-wood to
try to reach 15 in 2. If you hit it short, you're wet. If you hit it
long, you're either wet or hitting downhill on a lightening fast green
towards the water. Many a downhill putt has gone into the water in
    front of 15.

Perhaps you're thinking of 13 which is much easier to reach in two, but
much harder to make a eagle putt.

all but the shortest of hiiters are hitting mid to low irons on 15
now-a-days. when Sarazen had his eagle, he used a 4 wood,
and that was 60 years ago. watch this week, and you will see
that 15 is one of the easiest holes on the course!
it's only a par 5 because you can't hold the green. that, and the
fact that the bikini wax'd front will not save any balls.

| | What a great tournament. I was pulling for either Crenshaw, Love,
or Norman so I was happy to see the genuine emotion that Ben let out
knowing what he'd been through this week.
Freddie missed double eagle by an inch. Watching the roll of
that ball it looked like it was ready to curl right in the center of
the cup and then it just drifted right...
I was almost correct with my guess of Love III, of course I said
it could also have been Jacobsen.

putts on the back nine. I too was rooting for Norman and Love on
sunday, I was also rooting for Couples, who just self destructed with a
couple of three putts on Amen Corner. I felt bad for Brian Henninger,
who musta felt like he was in the way the last few holes, but he had an
outstanding tourney, for his first appearence at Augusta.

I would have loved to see Ben make his par putt at 18, but the emotion
that was released after he won was really remarkable, he'll be a great
    champion again.....Congratulations Ben.

eagled only 4 times previously in all the years past and he does it
twice in one week! Jack thinks that hole and #10 are the toughest par

| | I'll say this for the CBS, I think they have the best golf coverage on
TV bar none, the Masters of course is the highlight, and its tough not
to have good coverage there, but in general they show more shots, live
and not delayed, they cover the critical putts, and they do a great job
of setting up the tournement at the beginnnig.

The opening with Walter Cronkite on Sunday actually made me misty, I

	But I'm sure they're working on his Butler-Cabin-Speak... :-)
Friday on USA during Tiger's interview he floored the
assembled morons by stating (I didn't write this down but
	it was very close to)
"I'm not known for accuracy. But here, you can blow it
anywhere off the tee and still make 4."
This frank appraisal was followed by about 5 seconds of dead silence
and then going back to the action without another mention of Tiger :-)
On another Master's note, the issue of Golf Digest out just recently
had a GREAT article on the '75 Masters, in which Nicklaus, Weiskopf and
Miller duked it out on Sunday. All 3 players, and their caddies (!)
lend their recollections of the day. (Weiskopf's caddy tells of
watching one of Miller's iron shots and thinking to himself
"please don't go in, please don't go in" because he hit so many
that day that simply covered the flag.)
